I've always thought it was a good idea to protect my head in case of falls in shallow water or any other unforeseen problems. I also recently
suffered a concussion snowboarding (even with a helmet on) and confirmed how important head protection is in extreme sports. How many of you guys
wear helmets, and what type would be ideal for kitesurfing?
My skill on water is nowhere near what it is on snow, but I'm looking to get a board and get into water kiting this summer. Are there any downsides
of wearing a helmet? I'm not worried about how I look with a helmet on, so that is no concern. I'm speaking more about the helmet getting in the way

Helmet on the water is a good idea. You never know what can go wrong, and it is better to be safe, than sorry. I've heard some arguments against
helmets (believe it or not), but most of those arguments really do not hold much water (imo).

ill put on the helmet most of the time when the conditions are questionable or if i'm riding back and forth down the coast line. i love riding fast
staying in really shallow allot of the time so if i do loose it my noodle will be protected from any hard impacts.arkay - 3-4-2012 at 09:25 AM

I use a helmet as well...everytime...water, land, don't matter. I've also had a few times when my board and bar have hit me in the head.
