I had two of those Pacu in my fishtank. They were the size of dimes when I bought em. They were as big as dinner plates when I got rid em. The two of
em would demolish a head of lettuce in a few seconds. They are cousins to piranha...

Some show on Animal Planet had guys looking for piranhas in a northern state based on fisherman reports. I'll bet it was those nut busters that were
being caught. If those things eat zebra mussells they are going to do well!

i have had a few of these . silver dollar size that grow in dinner plate size. did well with cichlids. they do look piranha -like . piranha AND
this sp. really don't like the cold water and will not survive, not sure of the temp gradient for that area, seems a bit cold for thrive conditions.

These can actually grow to four feet in the wild....!!!
Drewculous - 9-7-2012 at 11:24 AM
had a few pacus... they outgrew my 55, so i gave them to a buddy that had some 375gal tanks.... last i knew they were still kicking!
that dude had some cool fish! I loved his snakehead and pirahnna .... scary a$$ fish! they'd "hunt" you as you walked through the outbuilding

More than a few "warm water outlets" (read nuclear power plants) make it "entirely possible". Who would have thought the industrial north could be so
exotic.
PHREERIDER - 9-7-2012 at 12:19 PM
figured a warm spot somewhere in the mix.
carltb - 9-7-2012 at 02:59 PM
sounds like the premis to a bad 3d movie!!!
mutant fish from the nuclear plant!! mwwwwahhhhh
Bladerunner - 9-7-2012 at 04:42 PM
We just had to drain a small lake to get rid of the Snakefish somebody must have dumped in there. Mant species suffered so that these fish could be
caught. They can travel OVER LAND !

And apparently - thanks to conservation efforts allowing the seal populations of Cape Cod to flourish ... you're now getting regular visits by rather
large Great White Sharks.

There was an episode of River Monsters that featured these guys similar story too. Only I think it was in a rainforest.
