Hey YouTube...

Kamikuza - 21-7-2012 at 01:24 AM

... go #@%$#! yourself!

Getting bloody sick of the 6 second ads they force you sit through - #@%$#!ing spastic Japanese #@%$#! for me cos of my location :ticking: the pop-ups were bad enough...

Even starting to watch an embedded video, then clicking to watch full screen - it starts to play then it stops and you get 6 seconds of some retarded bimbo screaming at me about some #@%$#!ing make-up or some nonsense crap...

Kamikuza - 21-7-2012 at 03:55 AM

I'm sorry, 15 seconds of bimbo's squawking at me

silvereaglekiter - 21-7-2012 at 04:52 AM

don't hold back tell us how you really feel:flaming::lol:

Kamikuza - 21-7-2012 at 05:11 AM

But I did hold back... :saint:

Clunthoo - 21-7-2012 at 05:40 AM

I had nothing but an advert for breast milk for a month on YouTube...WHY!?

MikeDobbs - 21-7-2012 at 06:38 AM

I think you need to cut them some slack Kami-

YouTube is a massive and well run site that we all get to use for free- I don't like the ads either, but if the don't profit we'll loose the resource.

I try to keep that in mind when waiting for the add to finish : )

Without youtube...

skimtwashington - 21-7-2012 at 01:05 PM

I never would have seen live concerts film and audio of Jimi Hendrix and other rock entertainment...almost like I was there-before some were removed, anyway... (perhaps I could pay for it elsewhere..But I'm not going to spend the $)

I'm sure Hendrix family and any title owners of any film/audio material HATE Youtube for taking $ away from them in possible sales and the repeated work in requesting to youtube it be removed for infringement rights as they find it posted .

I use Chrome with Adblock Plus and I've never seen an ad on YouTube before..

Kamikuza - 21-7-2012 at 04:54 PM

Bull#@%$#! Mike - they've had the pop-up ads for ages and ads on the page... now they've been offered more bucks to assault our intelligence with actual video ads. #@%$#! 'em for being greedy. And so stupid to push Japanese #@%$#! down my throat simply cos I'm in this location.

Chrome and the blocking block in have solved that problem.

BeamerBob - 21-7-2012 at 05:13 PM

just added that to my chrome as well!

Kamikuza - 21-7-2012 at 05:48 PM

That's what I'm using on my PCs... the Macincrap is, and can only, run Safari.

soliver - 22-7-2012 at 06:11 AM

I had so much trouble with their stupid copyright protection cr@9 just for using music in the background of my vids i try to post that I stopped using them, and now I'm in love with vimeo.

The search feature on vimeo isn't as good but they aren't so up tight about copyright stuff. I might still search for something on youtube, but I don't post there anymore,... it's a pain.

MikeDobbs - 22-7-2012 at 06:18 AM

soliver- I too have had difficulty with soundtracks on videos, but remember, that's the copyright owner, not YouTube. If a video is blocked by YouTube, or the audio is removed, that is because the owner of that specific material has requested that to happen if any of their content shows up. Most of the time they will just note the copyright and place a link to buy the song under your video, but it depends on the copyright holder.

Personally, I appreciate this because YouTube has a sort of built in protection for me from the most #@%$#!ly of copyright holders. Most people don't seem to mind you using their audio if not for profit as long as they can try to sell the track, but if a copyright holder that is going to get that upset about it I'd rather have to choose another song than end up with a problem if they ever find my vid on Vimeo

Really? Truly?

And how about those d@mn TV stations with all their commercials...

?!?!?!?!

Everything on the Internet should be free.... waaaaaaahhhhh :sniff:

Google/YouTube has an extrapolated server population of over 900,000 servers.... 45,000 servers in just one location. Perhaps if you offered to foot the bill for their electricity, maintenance, and cooling, they would consider removing all ads from your computer.

Before you unilaterally vilify Google/Youtube and start looking in the cupboards, for that....

Youtube blocks some WMG content. Other WMG content is allowed. Did you ever stop to ask why? For the WMG that is allowed, Youtube pays a blanket licensing fee to WMG on your behalf. Prior to the days of Youtube/WMG blocking, that covered a whole lot of content. Then WMG said "Hey!!! Here's a list of artists that were are going to need premium (read $$$$) licensing fees for." Youtube looked at the list and said.....

We're not going to pay that. Tell you what though, since we don't want to deal with the courts and your namby-pamby lawyers , if someone posts content by any of those artists on OUR servers, we'll block it. OK? Happy now....

I don't see any pop-ups, but perhaps that's a Google/Japan thing.

Don't want to see ads in Japanese? Load up proxy software that makes Google's ads think your are spending the Summer with Auntie Em in Kansas. And your little dog too.

While's there are ads that force you to sit through 15 seconds <*gasp*>.... remember when we thought the current generation was the one addicted to instant gratification. Plenty of content allows you to skip the ad after 4-5 seconds. Oh no.... another mouse click to see the content I wanted.... I am going to sue Google/Youtube for my RSI (repeated stress injuries) bills.

I am not trying to canonize Google/Youtube.... I expect they do a lot of stuff that doesn't meet my approval, but I blame the USPS on losing the letter where Google/YouTube asks me to bless all their business practices....b@astards!!!

I promise, once my plans for global world domination are complete, I will confer with you to make sure that the world is run right.

I know.... let's blame those d@mn greedy artists!!! Well, the fact of the matter is that a lot of really great artists don't earn boatloads of money.

Some still have mortgages and caring for multiple kids. Some only get records made through Kickstarter .

When Kate Klim's car (and her only way to get to gigs) got totalled, she put a bunch of songs on the web and said "Pay me what you think, they're worth."

A lot of people that post music to Youtube to have embarrassingly high fidelity and expensive audio gear to generate CD/HD quality sound. There are plenty of freely availalbe stream rippers available to capture any audio posted to YouTube in MP3 and other formats.... at that point YouTube becomes a distribution point for pirated music.

Vimeo is aware of copyright issues:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
While we cannot opine specifically on the situation you are referring to, adding a third party’s copyrighted content to a video generally (but not always) constitutes copyright infringement under applicable laws.

Under relevant U.S. laws, should a copyright owner come across their copyrighted content on one of our sites, they can submit a takedown notification requesting that we remove the content. This same area of law affords the operator of the site (THEM) some level of protection from claims of copyright infringement, when dealing with user-generated-
content. The same protection does not apply to the actual poster (YOU) of the content.

Again, we cannot provide any legal advice on this subject, so if you are genuinely concerned, we suggest you contact an attorney.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

When someone yanks their chain hard enough for video-takedown more prevalent on Vimeo is just a matter of time. Right now.... I expect the ROI on penalities and settlements is outweighed by profit.... that may change over time. It's the same as manufacturing companies paying the fines for toxic waste dumping, rather than abstaining.

Seriously.... on the list of things that bug me... this (Youtube) is probably fairly low. It probably bothers me more that:And the 15 second wait and pop-up in the language of the country where you are located is what torques you?

Sam

John Holgate - 22-7-2012 at 04:39 PM

And..... it's not so much youTube to blame, but we who post videos. I get to choose whether I have the pop up ads or the full screen ads on my videos 'cos I get paid for them. (providing someone actually clicks on the ad). I don't think (not 100% sure) that there are any ads on my videos that have someone else's music on them - as I'm not the copyright holder in that instance, I cannot claim revenue sharing or make money from them. You tube is extremely strict about this and I have even failed, in some instances, to convince them that my songs are, in fact, mine! Which is bloody frustrating to say the least.

With the time and effort I put into making videos, it's nice to be given the opportunity by youTube/Google Ad sense, to make a little money in return. Probably take two years before I have enough to buy a kite, but hey, better than a kick in the teeth!

So if you watch one of my vids and there's a 15 second full screen ad at the start, you have my permission to yell "Holgate, you $%%#$# ##$$ ##$$$"

In most cases, the ads are directly to related to whatever you've been searching for. If do a search on Camper Vans, Google remembers it and all my ads become 'Britz Camper Van' ads!! Ditto LapTop batteries. And, if you're unfortunate enough to have a look at RedTube, don't be surprised when all the ads on your screen become 'dating' ads. Where's the 'embarrassed' emotion gone......

Kamikuza - 22-7-2012 at 05:00 PM

iWolf = sorry, that's a FAIL.

Don't watch regular TV anywhere - ads are one reason, utter crap content is another. We have cable TV so I only suffer ads during the end/beginning breaks (usually). And that's so much of a turn-off that I'm thinking about running an proxy-server so I can get netflix here.

Free? They offer a free service and support it with ads - fine, no problem with the pop-ups or banner ads, such is life - I don't have to look at them. But when you can't shut down a video ad... 15 seconds x 4 is one minutes of my life I'll never get back cos I'm waiting for their ad to finish. Multiply by every time I want to watch something... wankers.

Didn't google buy YouTube for 2 billion dollars? How can free service providers afford to do that?!?!

Copyright I understand (but don't agree with in this case) and we all know what WMG, UMG etc get up to and how they're not protecting the artists, they're protecting their own profit margins.

And I shouldn't HAVE to run a proxy-server!

Oh you live in America don't you - you must be fat, stupid, white, speak English only, moan about Mexicans and your immigrant president, and have lots of guns. So here's a retarded bimbo with big tits jiggling at you to buy another enormous SUV that gets 2 miles to the gallon... on credit, of course.

Can't.... still like the video and included song (Take The Pain) on this one:

I'd still watch it even with an ad.

Errr....um... what? If you agree that they offer a free service that is supported by ads, then why would they make it easy for your to nuke those ads? That would be kind of a weak business model.

While I mourn your lost minutes.... no one's got a gun to your head. What did you do before YouTube? Zoinks!!! Cut the tether, man.

A service bought for 2 billion dollars from from 3 former Paypal employees. Hmmmm.... somehow "free service" seems kind of anachronistic in that light.

Hotmail (also ad driven, unless you pay for a subscription) is "free" but I don't think anyone would ever mistake Microsoft as a "free service provider."

Because the public face is the one that most people pay attention to. The corporate side is the money maker. While there is a free version of Sketchup, there is also a commercial version that sells for $500 a seat.

While the Google Search engine is free, they also lease the technology to corporation to index corporate documents for Intranet searching. The cost of the license is based on the number of documents that are being indexed. Take a wild guess at how many documents some of Google's corporate customers have on all their servers and then start tallying up the dollar signs...they add up fast. Figure that Google only offers up the price range for the two lower tiers. The two upper tiers are listed as "Call for pricing" (translation: call so we can confirm that you will not sustain severe head injuries when you faint from sticker shock).

Arguing about what is legal and what is right is always an exercise akin to raging at angels. Not necessarily an unworthy endeavor, but stock up on throat lozenges.

Again.... no gun to your head.... feel free to continue listening to Japanese ads.

Said it before... ads are the single largest waste of corporate money. I can't remember the last thing that I have bought based on an ad. "Targeted marketing" is an oxymoron. I don't fit into a whole lot of market niches. Not really sure what that comment has to do with anything.

@ i-wolf,... hey man didn't mean to cheese anybody off, sorry,... I understand the copyright issues, I mostly just think it's annoying.

I figured vimeo had something in their rules and regs or whatnot, I just find their ease of use (especially with the copyright issues) more appealing.

I have mad respect for your internet skilz

Peace be with you. ;-)

Kamikuza - 22-7-2012 at 06:53 PM

:P

Does Hotmail, MSN or heck even Yahoo! insist you sit through a 15 second ad every time you want to read an email? No. It's unnecessary and annoying... unnecessarily annoying even! :D

Yeah, not going to argue about copyright...

Ah, so you're not An American then. Oddly enough, I'm not Japanese and neither are a whole bunch of other people living in this section of the globe. Why should the internet insist that I must go to Japanese pages when I request the .com? for example. Let me do my own thinking, please!

Ads may be a waste of money but they keep doing it - right in your face, whether you want it or not. If you can't empathize with my gripe, go moan about your new car some more :evil:

No problem.... not cheesed. I actually preferred the Internet when it didn't have quite as many shackles.... just watching that incrementally changed.

Not hatin' Drew, just making the point that simply cos you live within the borders of X, doesn't make you a Xican. The reverse stereotyping is incredibly frustrating...

I worry about you and the cats, iWolf

Oh BTW the ads are now up to 2:24...

i aint no XICAN!!! Gad Dangit!!!

seriously tho, you stereotype Asians WAAAYYY more than anyone else... and you kinda sorta are trying to assimilate into one so... its cool

Kamikuza - 23-7-2012 at 08:59 PM

It's not a stereotype if it's true! :o Seriously, come and watch the ads here... they practically do it for me!

PHREERIDER - 24-7-2012 at 09:17 AM

youtube def has traffic but the ads just ruin it besides the whole $ on EVERYTHING, and the audience is full of less enlightened humans.

the market beyond needs parasitically waits for ALL who enter the WWW
