Sysmic 17 inch rims : update .. Got first shipment

van - 6-9-2012 at 10:23 PM

What do you guys think of these?? I talked to the manufacturer and he is making a production run in about 2 weeks. He said the new process of cooling the aluminum cast has greatly improved the wheels so they are true compare to past production runs. I thought about getting some for testing on the hard pack and also at NABX next year. Are these types of wheels of any interest to anyone in the USA?? I know most people use barrows or bigfoots on the beach. I haven't had a chance to test my motorcycle wheels out on my speed buggy yet. Winds has been low here.

If anyone is interested, I can add your order to my order. These will come directly from the factory in China so shipping will be cheaper than ordering from Europe.

bigkid - 6-9-2012 at 11:10 PM

So these will be tubeless?
I have a Sysmic and it looks like the 17" will fit nicely, Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Need to find some tires now, maybe with white walls.

tototo - 6-9-2012 at 11:39 PM

ask "Léon" about any detail that would not be translated right there ! http://mackitebuggy.forumactif.com/t928-pneus-pour-jante-len...

awindofchange - 7-9-2012 at 01:57 PM

I have been using these wheels for about a year now and they are very nice for the lake bed.

shehatesmyhobbies - 7-9-2012 at 02:06 PM

Those things are sweet!

WELDNGOD - 7-9-2012 at 03:24 PM

To hard to get the fingers in with covers on.

van - 7-9-2012 at 03:30 PM

You can put a clear spoke cover on it. It would be a waste of a nice looking wheel to put an opaque cover on it and hide those cool spokes. :o

WELDNGOD - 7-9-2012 at 03:37 PM

It would freak me out to have that big fan blade of a wheel sittin right behind me. Waitin.... for a body part! Gives me the creeps, you guys be safe w/ them scary wheels. Regular spoke wheels are bad enough, but I could get my LEG through those. I'm not knockin em',they are damn sexy... However.... they NEED a cover for love of your limbs. Just sayin....

WELDNGOD - 7-9-2012 at 03:39 PM

hey Van, so......... How much?$$$$$ Bro!

WELDNGOD - 7-9-2012 at 03:40 PM

I'm thinkin' NEW KYTBYK......

van - 7-9-2012 at 04:04 PM

If anyone is seriously interested , then send me a U2U and we can discuss a group order and how much it would cost to get them to the USA from the factory in China. Order need to go out by early next week.

awindofchange - 8-9-2012 at 12:52 AM

I will have to check the tire size, I believe it was a 120x70 17

jantie - 23-9-2012 at 12:05 PM

SWEET..

van - 11-11-2012 at 10:32 PM

The first set from this year's production came in last week. I have some tires on order so should be here this week. Since it took so long, Chris went ahead and ship one set by air freight and the rest by boat.

They look awesome. The new production changes result in a perfectly true rim with good symmetry. I will have this set at DBBB 2012 for those that comes to the event to check out.

BeamerBob - 11-11-2012 at 10:44 PM

I really love running disc wheels on my Apexx. Loads of grip, smoother ride due to larger diameter, and there is no wobble ever. Tires don't seem to have worn at all after 90 miles on the surface at Ivanpah. I think the discs could run anywhere regular barrows are ok.

bigkid - 12-11-2012 at 12:04 AM

Does that mean my wheels are on the way? Or are my wheels treading water for a bit longer?

van - 12-11-2012 at 08:46 AM

The other sets are treading water for atleast another month. If you want, I might be convinced to ship you this set after I show it off at dead bird. They will have tires mounted but will not be used so you can have them plus the price of the tires.

I am setting my bug up as an old school style with a big hood scoop, and side pipes with white wall tires. Do the tires on the demo wheels got white walls? I really like white wall tires, the big 8" white walls not the skinny ones. I think the big white walls will help make the bug faster for the Kite Drags.:lol::smilegrin:

van - 12-11-2012 at 10:30 AM

I can throw in a can of white paint spray.

van - 12-11-2012 at 09:24 PM

Got the tires today .. it was a little tricky but I was able to get them on with my bare hands, feet, and a little soap. Yeap .. had to get on all four .. haha...

BeamerBob - 12-11-2012 at 11:07 PM

Those look really nice. I wonder if you can get the tires off with plastic tire tools. I guess so if you got them on by hand.

bigkid - 12-11-2012 at 11:16 PM

You mean by hand and foot:lol:

van - 13-11-2012 at 08:35 AM

I actually did get them off the first time because I forgot to put the inner tubes into the tires first. I imagine if you can find a way to break the bead ( not really tight) then you can just rip them out with your hands. It took me about 5 minute to force them one with 2 hands and 2 feet .. haha. It took about 45 seconds to pull them off when I realize you need to put the inner tubes in first.

BeamerBob - 13-11-2012 at 08:53 AM

The 8 inch wheels are impossible to get a tire off, not enough dish for the bead to drop into. I imagine the extra diameter helps make things easier.

van - 13-11-2012 at 08:56 AM

Yes, I noticed that also. These 17" has a huge drop in the middle so it was very easy to get off. Almost like bicycle tires, just grab it and pull it off the rims. The tires I got are tubeless so the bead is not set as tight. I believe I can break the bead off with my hand, and maybe an extra foot ..

Also the distance from bead to bead is only 2.5" so I actually put both bead on and off at the same time. It was much easier then doing one side at a time.

Cheddarhead - 13-11-2012 at 10:25 AM

I know these kind of wheels are made for firm ground, but how do you think they would work on grass?

van - 13-11-2012 at 11:08 AM

They look like bmx wheels so I don't see why they wouldn't work.

BeamerBob - 13-11-2012 at 11:12 AM

I've run mine at the soccer park and they do very well. With the larger diameter, they roll over grass clumps more easily when getting rolling. With the small contact patch, grip is very good as well.

thanson2001ok - 13-11-2012 at 11:12 AM

Man those are sexy.

Next, who is going to add sound to their bug... something that thumps like the cars kids drive around nowadays.

As Bobby said, they work great on grass. The only down side is they will not go through soft sand unless you have the momentum before you hit the soft stuff to carry you through. I had them on the MG CrooZer and liked them alot. But not for soft sand.
They will make the ride on a dry lake bed much smoother also due to the larger diameter than the barrows.
If the wheels only came in 4" wide for some of the wider tires, would get rid of the bigfoots and enjoy the better ride.

Cheddarhead - 13-11-2012 at 05:57 PM

How are these priced compared to the landsegler wheels?

BeamerBob - 13-11-2012 at 06:18 PM

Cheddarhead I moved this discussion over to the Landsegler thread to avoid a major hijack on Van's thread here.

Cheddarhead - 13-11-2012 at 06:41 PM

Thanks Bob, does one just order them off their site? Obviously there would have to be a money conversion in there somewhere. Is shipping a killer? Just wondering, Christmas isn't too far away ya know.

van - 13-11-2012 at 10:19 PM

I don't have enough interest in these wheels in the USA to buy large amount in bulk. If I get enough interest, I will stock some for the US kite store retailer. They are about $105 a piece plus shipping from Europe. I got a few sets direct from the factory in China. The stock from this last production run is still at the warehouse in China. I still have a second chance to place an order before it all gets shipped to France. Shipping will be higher once they get to France.

van - 21-11-2012 at 09:42 PM

Finally got around to making a seat for the speed buggy. Since DBBB 2012 is happening this week, I figure I get it out there. I took the orignial Harley Davidson wheels off and put on the Sysmic ones that I just got.

To recap, this is the original HD wheels

these is the new look with the Sysmic rims and new deluxe seat

Matches my road bike .. yellow and black .. haha ..

That is my guess for the price based on what's on Chris' website. Aren't you able to purchase directly from the BuggyKiteShop website?

I am getting them from Chris for the US market so they can purchase from me with local shipping. I haven't gotten my retail pricing yet until I have the final bill with shipping and custom charges.

Cheddarhead - 23-11-2012 at 07:13 PM

Props to you Van! Sure ended up with a nice lookin setup:thumbup:Seat you made looks well crafted.....still can't picture you in front of a sewing machine;-)

If you get ahold of any extra sets of those wheels I'd be interested, sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Rob.

rocfighter - 30-11-2012 at 06:54 AM

van have you tried the Harley rims yet? I'm wondering if they can handle the side pressure of dug in turns. On a bike the pressure is almost all on the bottom and not the sides.

van - 15-12-2012 at 09:30 PM

Just to update those that were interested, I did receive a portion of the first shipment. Still waiting for the rest to come in the next week or so.

Jeff, I got one set for you if you are still interested.
