Where's my KITE? Found :-)

bigkid - 4-11-2012 at 10:22 PM

this post has been edited due to the kite was found and has resumed its journey.

shehatesmyhobbies - 5-11-2012 at 05:44 AM

I hope it is just an oversight. This is one awesome part of PKF that would really suffer if the kites do not turn up. This whole forum is built on trust. Hope this gets resolved quickly for you Jeff as well as the rest if the PKF family.

BeamerBob - 5-11-2012 at 07:14 AM

Screwyfits made some handles years ago and passed them around. They went MIA after awhile. I did get to see them and fly with them, but someone went to lengths to disappear with them. It was not a prominent member of PKF IIRC.

Bladerunner - 5-11-2012 at 07:31 AM

I was holding off until I talked to Jeff about this this weekend.

I had plans of passing the Aurora. At the moment that is off.

I will not name names but know of one other pass that ended bad in a slightly different way.

People out on their own are the ones who can benifit most from a pass but it seems un-policed temptation can get even a Canadian :embarrased:

We may have to rethink who can qualify for a pass in the future if it is to survive. :(

sunset-Jim - 5-11-2012 at 08:22 AM

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this turns out ok

Mainekite - 5-11-2012 at 08:48 AM

Big drag, I hope whoever has it speaks up and does the right thing

stephdip - 5-11-2012 at 09:03 AM

I'm in Gatineau, Quebec near Ottawa ,Ontario so if that last person you know of is near me, let me know and i can try to contact them from here.. i'm even driving to Montreal tomorrow.. i have no clue where that person is but willing to help out if near by..

awindofchange - 5-11-2012 at 11:26 AM

I too have run into an issue with a "pass" that went sour. Lost a kite and the person that got it...well, you know who you are. Because of this I will no longer do any pass kite deals. :( It is a shame that such a wonderful opportunity gets ruined by a couple bad apples.

erratic winds - 5-11-2012 at 11:31 AM

Maybe it's time to have a little legal release thing, anyone who wants to be part of a pass must sign it, scan it, and send a copy to the owner of the kite? i.e.: "I will pass this kite via certified/insured mail, no more than 3 weeks after receiving it, or I acknowledge I am purchasing this kite for full retail price as well as 15% restocking fee."

I know I had an amazing day on the pass the charger, and I was very sad to see that pass the kite got all #$%^&*^%^& as well.

beachrights - 5-11-2012 at 03:44 PM

Wow- this really is poor for this forum. Thought: 2nd person on list sends money to 3rd person on the list as insurance- 2nd person sends kite to 3rd person on list AFTER 3rd person sends money to 4th person on list.

Once kite is received by 3rd person the 2nd person gets their money back from 3rd person- repeat pattern till list is exhausted.

I couldn't have made this any more complicated if I tried!

BeamerBob - 5-11-2012 at 03:58 PM

If I'm #3 and #4 is the guy that's going to keep the kite, I don't want him to have my money. I say each guy on the "pass" runs the sale on a credit card before they receive the kite. When they ship the kite out to the next guy (who has also run his CC), the shipper gets full credit. And then you say, its not worth the effort to be nice.

Sorry I couldn't help but smile at this one - it has all the makings of a pyramid scheme.

Come on! I'll even throw in a set of Floor mats and a set of Wipers! LOL!

Told you it was confusing- not sure if it has "holes" but I think some sort of insurance like Bob and I are suggesting is the way to go.

Anyone want some prime land in South America?:spin:

What we need is MafiaKites Inc.....you don't pass the goods and Bubba comes to pay you a little visit at your house... This would guarantee it's in the mail for the next person...

pyro22487 - 7-11-2012 at 07:02 PM

Post his name and address Jeff. We can probably get that kite back. Who is with me?

sand flea - 7-11-2012 at 07:40 PM

Post it Jeff!

Who said this was a capability we do not have already?????

Snake - 7-11-2012 at 07:51 PM

Post the name!

bigkid - 7-11-2012 at 09:28 PM

I am holding out the hope that this person will man up and do the right thing. I even thought of offering to trade a couple of used demo kites to help him out. Not sure he is that hard up for a kite or 2 but what the heck.
Tried twice to call him today and got some weird message after the calls. I will try again tomorrow and see what happens.
I don't want to post his name at all, but I may if things don't pan out.

skimtwashington - 8-11-2012 at 06:42 AM

Don't trade him to get your kite back. It should just come back.

Bladerunner - 8-11-2012 at 07:30 AM

Perhaps a call to the RCMP in this persons area could encourage them to stop by his address and talk to him about sending it off ?

It is a bit of a stretch but rural RCMP have a little more time to deal with the small stuff ? It eventually becomes a crime of theft so ...

I had a vision of Dudley Do Right out chasing Snidely Whiplash.

Bladerunner - 8-11-2012 at 07:45 AM

RCMP, "they always get their man" !

I am serious about giving them a call. They may be Dudley do something ?

bigkid - 8-11-2012 at 02:49 PM

I played detective today and found some info and made a few calls and let Dudley Do Right know and filed a report. Even Dudley said he should man up and return it. But because there was no legal contract signed, I will have to take a bath. Must be a Canadian thing, not taking a bath.:puzzled:
Talked and talked and talked to his wife and she was way to much help.
I expect to make a statement in a few days one way or the other.
I could always post the address and we could all send him a "shame on you" letter.

alasdair macleod - 8-11-2012 at 02:56 PM

Hell yeah do it !!!
I'll send one to him a letter all the way from Scotland !!!!

mougl - 8-11-2012 at 08:13 PM

I'd love an address! *cracks knuckles*

rocfighter - 9-11-2012 at 06:24 AM

Hey Jeff has this guy been on the forum lately? If so than he is in full knowledge of the situation and you should have no reservation of outing him. If he is in hiding then push a little more and see what happens. This thread has been bothering me from the start and I hope it ends in a good way very soon. It saddens me that one of our own is doing this. I hope he is just scared to admit he damaged or lost it and comes forth soon.

Bladerunner - 9-11-2012 at 07:55 AM

My 1st concern is / was that he is not well.

So Wifey says he's not dead ? YET !

I have never signed a contract for anything I've stolen and it's been years since I had a bath ! ;-)

?

Too much help? Lot of talking....no resolution or will she be the fixer?

Y'know it's very rare what you do in loaning through a forum with trust and generousity and your give aways. Don't let one bad apple ruin it if you would like to continue... but I don't know if a better security system can be implimented in 'pass the..' set ups . You know and are now living the risks( worst scenario) when you do this.

- if they're normal moral responsible people....

IF...it was lost or unrepairably damaged...that's another issue and how you deal(reparation) with it.

That aspect may have been already revealed...? I'm just curious like the others.

No good deed goes unpunished. You have to be willing to accept the possibilty of that...unfortunately.

good luck.

PS: you think CMP hate the Dudley Do-right reference of them?:spin:

bigkid - 9-11-2012 at 09:35 AM

In all that has happened,(and you wouldn't believe some of the stuff, you wouldn't even be able to think this stuff up)this is nothing but a small pebble on the road of life. Yuk:smug:

I will still be me and do what I do,
piss people off,
make enemies,
rock the boat,
make you think when you don't want to,
make you take a stand,
and tell you you are wrong when you are. :P
I will also give things away,
make life a bit more interesting,
encourage those that make an effort,
and hopefully add to the enjoyment of this sport and the people who make it happen. (And I am working on being more humble, which isn't doing so well)

Whether or not I get my kite back, I have been working on a few other freebies and ideas. I have also been working on a simple way to Pass the Kite with out this happening again,:eureka: or at least gives me some power to Squeeze the living daylights out of the ......, did I say that out loud? :o

Life will go on with or without me or the the guy with my kite, so lets get on with it.
The wife's motorhome needs to be loaded with my stuff for the weekend and I am ready to enjoy the weekend one-way or the other.:bigok:

rocfighter - 10-11-2012 at 06:51 AM

Go have some fun man. I hope this all ends up good. SPRING TIME IN WILDWOOD WOO HOO!!!

BEC - 10-11-2012 at 07:43 AM

Great attitude about life and how it sometimes throws you little curve balls. Hope this works out in the end...Now listen to what you just wrote and go enjoy "YOUR" time with family/friends. Have a great weekend!

bigkid - 17-11-2012 at 09:27 PM

After great thought and dealing with the remarks of others, trying to be positive has been next to impossible.
I would like to blame the substance in my life, but to be honest, it is more the lack of substance that has my brain working overtime.

So to put things in a simple light for all to see, I have, after a few phone calls and with the hangups and blocked number trick, I have decided to end this on a good note.
I want to wish,
delete delete, (bigbear97e)
delete delete delete delete
delete delete delete delete
delete delete delete delete
delete delete delete delete , the best in his life with my kite. I hope he enjoys it each and every time he gets it out to fly.
You my friend, are one in a million. I will take your lead and remember you for some time. Be well and enjoy the good life that you deserve.

Bigbear97e - 18-11-2012 at 12:30 AM

Hey guys ... I am here and not hiding .... I do have the kite ... no intent whatsoever steal it. Not blocking calls or hanging up .... my fault for not communicating with Jeff. I have been on this forum for 15 months and had several deals with persons, met a few and been in previous "pass the _____".

new job, new location ... all excuses, but no malice intended on my part .... will be talking to Jeff Sunday to see if he wants me to pass kite on to Vancouver or return it ....

Sorry forum members .... this one is all on me for not communicating.... again no ill intentions .... understand Jeff's anger ... the apology is sincere and hopefully Jeff will remove my personal phone numbers from this public site.

van - 18-11-2012 at 01:33 AM

Since you are back on the forum.. did you ever get the stuff I sent you?? Been trying to contact you but never got a response.

Proletariat - 18-11-2012 at 09:11 AM

Nice. Glad to hear everything is shaping up. I just moved houses/jobs and I know how it can be. That being said, a quick u2u from a public library would have worked wonders :)

Bigbear97e - 18-11-2012 at 10:06 AM

Proletariat ... correct you are ... point taken

van - 18-11-2012 at 10:16 AM

I'm glad you are back online again and hope the best on the resolution between you and Jeff. Good luck and good winds.

zalex820 - 19-11-2012 at 03:42 AM

Wow I am new to this forum and kiting as well and I must admit that most of you guys have a heart and really try to keep this community about trust. I was interested in trying out a few kites from the members here and getting to know all you guys and girls. I was just reading this whole thread and my heart was sinking to my feet haha. I thought what a scum bag this dude was for stealing it but it all turned out ok for the time being. Keep it up guys.

bigkid - 19-11-2012 at 07:51 PM

OK, LET PUT THIS TO REST FOR EVER MORE.
THINGS HAVE WORKED OUT FOR THE BEST WITH ALL INVOLVED. THE WORLD IS AT PIECE AGAIN.:bigok:

I WANT TO PERSONALLY THANK BIGBEAR FOR HIS TREMENDOUS INTEGRITY. I KNOW HE IS A STAND UP GUY AND I ADMIRE HIM FOR IT. I WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER IN ANY TYPE OF DEALINGS FROM HERE ON OUT.

I only hope that everyone on this forum will agree with me, and not hold anything against him. Thanks Eric.

WELDNGOD - 19-11-2012 at 08:00 PM

nocando - 19-11-2012 at 10:20 PM

Hi All in Oz the guys from Extreme Kites run a similar scene

Heres the Info

How it Works
You put your name on the list, you receive the kite, when you're done with it you pass it on to the next person on the list. This is a first come first served system, we try to keep the kites moving as regularly as possible. Once you receive a kite please email DemoKite@ExtremeKites.Com.Au so we can provide you with the details of the next person to send the kite to.

*Note: Once you put your name on the list you will receive an email from us within 48 hours requesting your details for kite tracking and delivery co-ordination purposes.

How Much Does It Cost?
You can try as many kites as you like for $10!
There is a $50 refundable deposit required when booking.

You pay $60 upfront, and can test as many kites as you like. You book a kite, it is sent to you, two weeks later you pass the kite to the next person on the list. You cover your own costs of postage to pass the kite to the next person. Once the kite arrives in good condition, you can either request your $50 deposit back, or put your name down for another kite!

It is NOT $10 per kite, it is $10 for as many kites as you like!

How many kites can I book to demo at the same time?
You are welcome to have your name waiting for 3 kites at a time.
We will increase this number as the number of kites we have access to increases.

Demo Kite Loan Guide
- Please only keep the kite for a couple of weeks, this helps keep the kites moving through peoples' hands. We try and get the kites to you as quick as possible, it's great if you could do the same for others!
- Please pack the kites up properly, do not send kites in a tangled mess.
- Include everything you received in the package when sending the kite on to the next person.
- Periodically we will ask for the kites to be returned to us for inspection
- Please don't trash the kites, the service is here for everyone to enjoy trying new kites!
-Don't pack up a wet kite. Make sure the kite dries properly before packing it up. Packing up a wet kite can cause colors to run.
- After you have flown and enjoyed a kite we would really appreciate a review of the kite submitted to our reviews system sharing your opinion.
- This Community Scheme is only open to Australian residents, this is not an International system.

Damaged Kites
If you damage a kite please notify us immediately!
If you receive a kite that has been damaged please notify us immediately upon receiving the kite.
If you do not notify us of damage within 3 days of receiving the kite we will assume the kite arrived in good condition.
Repair costs for any damage sustained to a kite whilst on loan to you will be deducted from the $50 deposit and the difference refunded to you.

Lost or Stolen Kites
If you loose a kite you will be expected to pay in full for the kite, so when sending kites on to the next person please ensure they are sent as insured items to their retail value.
If you steal a kite we will publicly name you and pursue you.

Legal Note
This is a community scheme to help get manufacturer's and retailer's kites out there for people to demo. Extreme Kites shall not be held liable in any way for any personal injury, 3rd party injury, or 3rd party property damage that may result from the use of any demo kite. Make sure you are a member of 3rd party liability insurance, such as the Geelong & District Kite Club. As always, fly in a safe manner and within your experience level.

pyro22487 - 20-11-2012 at 07:42 PM

I'm happy this all turned out for the better. I was worried that there would be no more pass the kites things.

pyro22487 - 20-11-2012 at 07:43 PM

Grrrrrr double post
