Looking for someone in massachusetts willing to meet up next week to help me out with a depower kite. Set up make sure lines are attached correctly
and show me how to use the kite.
Picked up a hq montana off eBay. My first depower so not 100% sure the lines were set up right. Managed to get it in the air for a little and
already love the feeling of a depower.

Where in MA are you. I do believe the Nahant crew is planning a gathering at Nahant on the 9th of Dec. If your near them or not they are a great crew
to hook up with. Very knowledgeable and nice too. No matter what don't look at Brian F's feet. My hair started to go grey the day I did!!
But seriously if you can hook up with these guys they can help you out. If your in the Berkshires I will be up there near Jimney Peak on Sat. - Wed.
Not that I can be much help, but I'm fun to be around too!!

I'm one of the Nahant crew but won't be there on the 9th. I fly depowers. Where are you located and how much kiting experience do you have?
Interested in boarding, buggy or snow kiting? What size and version (1-7) did you score?

Interested in snowboarding. It's a 7m montana 1. Located in worcester got my first kite about 6 months ago a Beamer tsr 3.6m I've flown that
from 1mph to prob 25 got basic skills down and somewhat understanding the wind window. Just the switch to depower and a kite twice as big set up is a
bit confusing

There is some good kite skiing out near Worcester but I can't think of the name of the lakes offhand. Are you willing to come to Nahant? The 7m is
going to have about as much power as your 3.6 so don't let the size intimidate you.

Sad to say I can't make it out on the ninth. I have drill this weekend right in Quincy if you know anyone in that area that could help out make sure
lines are set up correctly?

The manual should be online at the HQ website if no one can meet you. The outer lines on the bar go to the lower / rear / brake lines on the kite and
the middle / power lines go to the top lines on the kite. Generally top and bottom lines on the kite side are somewhat evident if you spread the
bridle out and hold the pigtails for the line attachments and shake the mixer out. Don't let the mixer intimidate or confuse you. Its really not any
harder than attaching the lines on your beamer and flying the kite is pretty simple if you already know what you are doing. Just go out in low wind
and give it a go. If the wind is up, I'm sure there will be guys at Nahant 2-3 hours around either side of low tide. I know I'm trying to get out if
the weather is good on Sunday.

I see that low tide is real early this weekend. You may want to post at http://masskiting.com/forum. Its mostly kite surfing but I think there are some guys from the Quincy area on that forum who may be able to help
you if necessary. You could try to meet at Pope John Paul II Park. Its right off the highway.

got all my lines set up right and can get the kite launched but as soon as I let go of the center lines kite stalls out and drops back down to the
ground. I have tried adjusting the power lines and no luck. Also when I first unrolled the kite the brake line were crossed over and attached to the
opposite side?? good news got my harness in today now just need the kite problems worked out.

How high is the kite when you let go of the center lines? Also, does this Montana have the 3 knots on the center leader and if so which know are you
on?

Quoboag pond near Brookfield is near you. People from masskiting.com seen to go there alot. Supposed to have great kiting in the winter. Always
wanted to try it.

Yes has the three knots I've tried it on all of them. Also kite gets to just below apex let go and drops. Basically drops starts dropping whenever I
drop the lines

Just a quick review. If you had your brake lines and front lines on a hook and you were pulling on them way down at the other end , are they the same
length(exact would be nice 1/2" diff. tolerable). With it all rigged and your powerlines on the knot closest to the bar ,pull the centers to launch
the kite all the while make sure you are pushing the bar away from you. You do not want to be pulling the bar toward you this may be stalling the
kite (you will learn to pull the bar later when the kite is speeding back and forth). Go ahead and try it befor you take the lines off.

Sounds like the center line safety may not be engaged...? I had a similar problem with my blaze. I could launch but when I released the center lines
the kite dropped. Upon inspection I found that the Tophat safety was not engaged. Once I closed it things changed immediately.

Were you flying the kite without a harness when this was happening? If that is the case then you are choking the kite when you let go of the center
lines as the only option is to hold the bar in. Now that you have a harness you will see that you need the harness to get the most out of the kite.
You can fly unhooked for a bit but you need the harness to really fly the kite.

I didn't even think that you might not be hooked in. Center lines on knots closest to the bar , helmet on , hook in , push bar away from you, pull
on center lines to launch. If that does'nt fly, it needs PKF member assistance. Oh and do what Cheezy said , make sure the long thick line that runs
thru the bar goes up wraps thru a pulley or ring and comes back toward the bar to hook into that red hat thing.

I did have the chicken loop hooked up to my belt. I think this choking that's being explained is whats happening as I had the bar pulled in while
launching the kite. Just need some daylight time off and some wind to give it another try thanks for the help

Yeah if you're launching with the bar pulled in and you are attached to the chicken loop you're going to tail stall the hell out of the kite. If you
are able to make her climb to near zenith my guess is that you're simply tail stalling it. Pulling the center lines in will off set this until you
let go.
If you move the front lines to the knots closest to you it will off set the bad habit a littl bit but probably not enough. One thing you can try is
flying her unhooked and shee if you run into the same issue. To do this simply adjust the trim strap to full depow, launch the kite using the method
of yarding in the center lines and see if she goes to zenith. You may have to tug on it a couple times in the launch process if the wind is light but
once you get to the zenith you should be able to fly her just with the bar and not attached to the chicken loop.
WARNING this is a leashless system so if the wind is nasty and you have to let go you will not be attached to anything and the kite will be loose. SO
try it in moderate winds if you can:Ange09:

riding and flying in almost all conditions...
I'd be game to meet up and show you...Im in western mass kiting the last few days, REALLY gusty,...
