Big Blue, 24m peter lynn prototype or trade for flysurfer

shopforeman1179 - 22-5-2014 at 08:51 PM

Kites been around pkf a few times. Just search big blue. You'll find some post and a video. Flown it a total of four times. Twice on land and two times on water. Fun kite to fly. For it age, which I'm not sure is. It's in great condition and still crispy. Kite only. No bar and no bag due to the fact it's not production kite. Bought it for $350. it's still worth $350. Plus shipping. Or trade for 21m fly surfer with bar. You will get 24m big blue. 19m v2 with bar. And next to brand new mbs comp26x board. Which did cost me over $500. Keep in mind what it's gonna cost me to ship those three items vs your one kite.

to be clear, this is a "synergy" prototype, correct? (waiting for feyd to chime in since he will certainly know if you don't)

shopforeman1179 - 23-5-2014 at 07:53 AM

That's the assumption as far as I know which is only from reading these forums.

Demoknight - 23-5-2014 at 08:22 AM

I thought it was the Phantom 2 proto.

Not enough cells for sure. I'm not sure it has enough cells to be a Synergy proto either. I'd guess it's from the Venom era.

tips and chord say phantom 2, maybe ch2 ??

I'm swayed to think you are on the right track with Phantom II. The profile thickness is thin like a Phantom II.

Smeagol - 23-5-2014 at 10:59 PM

It's Blu! Up for sale again, eh? Heh. Was she just too much kite?

It's the same one Feyd sold ages ago. She's really gettin' around now. ;)

I'm not sure if it was ever determined what it was exactly. I'm sure Feyd will chime in on it though.

pretty sure this is the original ad from when I grabbed it:

http://www.powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=21694#pid21...

I'm halfway tempted to buy it back but I haven't touched the arcs I do have now in months.. it's sad. :(

Feyd - 24-5-2014 at 05:49 AM

Typing with one hand so bear with me on typos.

Blu is an early model prototype. More in the G2 V1 range.:D Seems pretty hi AR tho when powered up, almost like a Ph1. 24m is a guess at the size, she could be more. Awesome in lighter winds, killer kite if youre a Clydesdale.

I still regret selling her but she comes out rarely and with my 24m Ph2 she was getting used even less. Still, I was always impressed with how she flew. As with many kites in this forum she does seem to be making the rounds. :P If you have some spare $$$ waiting to buy some ripstop and want to try a cool monster (uber gentle BTW) this is an awesome kite to score.

Worth every bit of $350. If youre into arcs its a great kite to add to a quiver and it works pretty damn good as a light wind rig. I never took it on water but I bet it would be fun.

shopforeman1179 - 24-5-2014 at 06:04 AM

Blue has accomplished teaching me how to landboard in light winds something the 19m v2 just didn't have the grunt for. Keep in mind when I started I was 6'4 @ 265 lbs, now down to 215lbs. So when it was time for the winds to start picking up out here on the delta kitesurfing came natural. I'm not going to keep such a kite just to leave in the Corner of the garage when I'm sure there's someone else out there that can now enjoy it. As for her being too much kite, nope! First day on the water with her was in a storm. Brother flew first in 10-15mph winds which soon shot up to 20-25. He waved me over in the boat yelling "get me off this thing"!. With pure terror in his eyes. We switched places an I got out there on blue. First time ever flying flying well powered, and I liked it. It did get frustrating quickly though. I could only go down wind due to the fact I had to fly blue directly above me to keep me from getting pulled over which made it so I couldn't edge the board to go up wind since all my weight was held up by blue. Good solid kite! Fun to watch fly.

Feyd - 24-5-2014 at 04:34 PM

Ha!, that's awesome.
:D

/agree. The 19m V1 was also not a low wind performer.

Regardless, I'm pretty sure this was a aerobed prototype :)

Kamikuza - 26-5-2014 at 09:05 PM

... trade for a Psycho4 19?

shopforeman1179 - 26-5-2014 at 09:37 PM

Yeah, I'm really looking for a light wind kite. 21m flysurfer fits the the bill for a 200+ lbs guy. Plus I'm good on fronting the shipping cost to Japan.

shopforeman1179 - 26-5-2014 at 10:39 PM

Fs Psycho 4 19m is another style of kite I definitely wouldn't mind having. Could definitely have some fun on a kite like that!

shopforeman1179 - 7-6-2014 at 12:20 PM

Blue is on eBay.

Feyd - 7-6-2014 at 05:18 PM

1bid so far only at $185. Bidding ends today.

shopforeman1179 - 8-6-2014 at 06:52 AM

Nope. Sorry. That's for the MBS 26. Blue has 2days 11hrs.

Terrablader - 8-6-2014 at 12:17 PM

How well would this fill in 6 mph wind for land kiting. This is an inflatable kite?

BeamerBob - 8-6-2014 at 01:14 PM

in 6 you might need to artificially fill it with a blower of some sort. It does require air to fill the space between the "Twin Skins", but there is not a tube and you can't fill it with a conventional pump.

shopforeman1179 - 8-6-2014 at 07:39 PM

Unlike other foils, at least one's I've owned. It it doesn't have zipper openings at each end to allow the wind to fill it as well as one in the middle to deflate when rolling it up. It only has the single opening in the middle. So I've always just used a leaf blower to fill it.

kiteballoon - 9-6-2014 at 09:47 AM

Never saw this on ebay; what's the link?

smiler8401 - 9-6-2014 at 10:42 AM

just stroll by , ship to US only ..LOL

BeamerBob - 9-6-2014 at 02:22 PM

Is no one going to step up and take this thing away from me? I definitely don't need it but if it goes for my high bid, I'll take it.

SpecialK - 9-6-2014 at 02:53 PM

No one wants to pay $60 in shipping probably :)

erratic winds - 9-6-2014 at 03:17 PM

Bobby, you're gonna get it, you're gonna give it to brian on the playa, and he's gonna break the sound barrier with it. :D :D

BeamerBob - 9-6-2014 at 03:34 PM

Yeah it wouldn't have much sidepull at all in 50 mph winds! Shipping is showing as $38.

shopforeman1179 - 9-6-2014 at 07:49 PM

Shipping is gonna vary based on location. Spars don't break down. Solid carbon fiber rod. So kite is rolled up. Box is 6' long. So shipping it kinda sucks. I was just able to drive and pick it up when got it from smeagol just outside Sacramento.

BeamerBob - 11-6-2014 at 07:06 AM

Well 2 people dive bombed it with 10 seconds to go and it went for $302.

erratic winds - 11-6-2014 at 09:37 AM

So it's going to a stranger? Hope they know what they are in for!

BeamerBob - 11-6-2014 at 10:20 AM

It might be back on ebay soon!

Smeagol - 11-6-2014 at 10:28 AM

No it won't. ;)

shopforeman1179 - 11-6-2014 at 05:59 PM

Congrats to smeagol on acquiring big blue back into his quiver, again! And for less then what he sold it for. Lol. As long as it stays in the PKF brood, that's fine by me. At least we'll still get to hear stories from time to time of her flights.

Feyd - 12-6-2014 at 05:03 AM

Oh my god. Seriously you can't write this stuff! :o

That's awesome..

SpecialK - 12-6-2014 at 05:33 AM

What a waste of a perfect setup for a gollum joke... :)

Smeagol - 12-6-2014 at 11:21 AM

Haha! Well, I couldn't bare seeing it sit @ $202.50 or whatever it was for so long, so I threw in a bid right near the end there. Wasn't expecting it to be the winning bid, but it was. :tumble:

weird, eh?

B-Roc - 12-6-2014 at 02:18 PM

$232 to $300 :puzzled: Clearly someone didn't understand how auctions work or they were hoping to outbid all at the last minute with a major bump in price. Good on you Sméagol for grabbing it 2 seconds later for $2 more.

BeamerBob - 12-6-2014 at 02:50 PM

Another guy bid $300 and Smeagol bid higher with less than 10 seconds to go so that's why it jumped up so much at the end. My high bid was 232 and had been there for 2-3 days. It's typical bidding technique.

Smeagol - 12-6-2014 at 03:24 PM

Heh, yeah eBay will automatically bid for you up to your max amount. Either people don't realize that or they just don't care 'cause you'll always see them bidding at the last second in auctions. I'm guilty of it myself. :D

who was the $300 bid I wonder.. anyone on here?

B-Roc - 12-6-2014 at 05:18 PM

I get that but I think the next logical bid would have been 235 and then 240, etc. Stinks for the seller but its the logical buyer move. Why spend more if you don't have to.

I too am one for last minute sniping and won my pulse with 2 seconds to go before the bid closed (for $5 more than the previous high bid)

BeamerBob - 12-6-2014 at 06:07 PM

You can't do all that if you wait till 10 seconds are left. It only bids you up enough to be one step above the next bidder. I had a max bid of 232, which they both passed. Bidder #2 bid $300 and Smeagol bid something higher than that and beat both of us. Also, they didn't know my high bid was 232 so they would've bid $205 and the auction would be over with me winning since my lurking high bid was $232. Go find some auction on an iphone or something and watch it end, then you can see how it works.

SpecialK - 12-6-2014 at 06:25 PM

The reason for sniping is to prevent people from countering back.

You're supposed to bid exactly as much as you're willing to spend, and then see if anyone else is willing to spend more. When you participate in this fashion, you get an email informing you that you were outbid. Human nature will often drive people to up their bids because people don't like to lose. To short circuit this and prevent a bidding war, many people will lurk and wait to "snipe" at the last second.

Both approaches are valid. On the one hand, if you only bid what your'e willing to pay, you can't lose (but you may not win)... on the other hand if you try to snipe, you run the risk of not going high enough, but you prevent someone else countering your max offer.

BeamerBob - 12-6-2014 at 06:39 PM

I probably could've made all the sniping irrelevant by bidding $400 and would've won by paying $2.50 more than Smeagol's highest bid. I was a casual bidder though and would gladly buy the kite and pay shipping for a total of $275 if interest was low. But lucky for the seller, there were 2 other bidders willing to pay more.

Feyd - 13-6-2014 at 10:29 AM

I'm just glad she's still in "the loop".

I had visions of some first timer buying Blu and trashing her.:(

shopforeman1179 - 13-6-2014 at 04:50 PM

Smeagol had the upper hand on this auction. He was able to bid higher without having to compensate for the cost of shipping onto the price. Just a 30min drive to pick it up.
