Well I just bought a waist harness after hearing how much better and more comfortable they are than the seat harness. But I'm not sure how to keep it
from sliding up above my waist (mid chest area) when flying. And not that I'm ready to go there yet, but how can anybody possibly jump with these?
It's a Mystic harness, pictures below:

I have the same issue with my waist harness. The only solution I've found is that your waist needs to be smaller than your chest .. lol .. which I'm
working on right now.abkayak - 25-8-2014 at 11:31 AM
if you fly a whole bunch eventually you will get lats....bang!...problem solvedB-Roc - 25-8-2014 at 12:13 PM
I too have found that I don't have a build suitable for a waist harness. Either I need it so tight that I can't breath or I set it loose enough to
breath but then it rotates around and up my body. Seat harness was the only solution for me. You could try adding of 2 leg straps out of webbing
that you loop onto each end of the spreader bar and then slip your legs through as put the harness on (so you form a loop on each side of the spreader
bar). Its kind of ghetto but it would work - might need some padding added to the webbing to protect the jewels.
It would also prevent spreader bar creep. jadog - 25-8-2014 at 12:36 PM
Thanks guys. I just found this thread here from a previous poster with the same issue. Odd, because I did a search before posting and this didn't show
up.
So it sounds like I may be going back to a seat harness. Bummer. Thanks for the recommendation B-Roc. I too was trying to think of a way to rig a seat
to the harness. I'll have to give that some thought.

Did you originally have the PL Divine seat harness? I cant remember. jadog - 25-8-2014 at 01:50 PM
No, I did not.Bladerunner - 25-8-2014 at 04:32 PM
Try cinching it up so tight that you can't breath. It feels uncomfortable at first but you get used to it.
I have the same issue with my Dakine harness. I use a Mystic combination harness but end up just loosening the leg straps, not taking them off. BEC - 25-8-2014 at 05:08 PM
If you have the $$dough$$ I highly recommend getting two harnesses....
One for buggy....seat harness PL Divine...will not ride up and will not pinch you off
Dakine Fusion......stand up...ski/static
(there are a ton of personal choices on this one ^^^^ but the Divine for buggy can't be touched for comfort) jadog - 25-8-2014 at 05:10 PM
@ Bladerunner
I tried that, but can't understand why anybody would want to sacrifice comfort when they could just use a different type of harness. I have a very
comfortable seat harness, but it has a wheel instead of a hook. I placed a wanted post here to see if anybody knows where I can get a hook type bar to fit.
@BEC
Is it possible there would be that much difference between mine and the Fusion waist harness? I don't want to buy it and then find it is the same way
as this.B-Roc - 25-8-2014 at 06:58 PM
I've had a fusion since 2006. Love it. Would replace it with another without a thought. FWIW I'm a size 31 waist but I wear a large fusion. I
think that says its for a size 34-36 but I just tighten the waist strap and leave the legs loose. It never goes anywhere and doesn't crush anything.Kober - 25-8-2014 at 07:31 PM
As you progress you will want to start using waist harness .... It makes whole world difference when you start jumping and need to twist your body
to make safe landing .... Seat harness will stop your progression at some point ..... Now .... I did have same issues as everyone who start
kiteboarding .... harness riding up is a nightmare ..... so .... what to do ??? ..... As posted by bladerunner .... squeeze every inch that is
possible when putting harness on ..... after few minutes of riding it will get comfortable .... make sure you are not riding with poo stance .....
make sure you body is straight and harness is being pulled away from you ..... not up ..... when not kiting keep your kite to the side of wind
window .... not at zenith .... that also is so much safer when using kite in overpowered conditions .... At this moment I am able to ride all day
long with loose harness and keep it at right place ..... its all about finding your own technique ..... I was using Mystic Worrior II for last few
years and recently upgraded to Ion Apex ... big difference .... waist velcro strap on Ion is so powerful and big that holds whole harness in place
without any issues ..... back support is non slip material for maximum grip ..... 3 straps on each side to keep spreader bar from moving .... that
all helps a lot ...... then .... there are waist harnesses made with back support that slips ... specially for wave riding or people who like to
ride a lot toe side or blind .... those harnesses are not staying in place and riders are able to use them without ride up issue .... its all about
what you like and your skills ..... and no .... I am not slim person .... my beer muscle is very nicely rounded ....
don't give up on waist harness ...... good luck ... soliver - 25-8-2014 at 07:43 PM
Whoa... Hey hey hey... Who cares about harnesses,... Did I really just see that Van posted something? ... Wow it's been a minute!!!
We miss you buddy!grigorib - 26-8-2014 at 06:56 AM
There are three ways:
1. keep lower strap (goes through the bottom of the hook) attached and moderately tight
2. ride more, stand static less
3. keep your abs in smaller size than your chest - having an actiual waist is a good prerequisite for a waist harnessssayre - 26-8-2014 at 07:06 AM

How do you do that? Not sure I understand.indigo_wolf - 26-8-2014 at 01:42 PM
If I understand the previous post correctly, You have the upper strap and the lower strap.
If you tighten the lower strap more that the upper strap, you'll create a V type channel which should lock in against your lower ribs.

Oh I understand. But that's my seat harness and I don't have this problem with that harness. Only my waist harness pictured in my original post has
the problem of riding up on me.sand flea - 26-8-2014 at 04:41 PM

Does your waist harness (Mystic Shadow?) have an upper and lower strap or just one big honkin' strap.

I have imagination a bit too wild to see a seat harness slide up to the chest. B-r-r-r-rgrigorib - 26-8-2014 at 07:00 PM
The lower strap could be seen on the second picture. But it shouldn't be more tight than the upper strap - it's not designed to hold too much tension,
only moderately tight.jadog - 26-8-2014 at 07:28 PM
Yes it has the lower strap as well, but it doesn't feel like that strap has much if any effect. Good to know to keep it looser than the main. Also
great guess on the model - it is indeed the Mystic Shadow.Windy Heap - 26-8-2014 at 08:08 PM
This helps too.
The Chest Pad works great for lifting and rubbing.
drink more beer, tummy will hold the harness down!
Free Plug for Big Mikes, THANKS for the new chest pad!
Custom fit kitesurfing harnesses. The only way to have a waist harness that's guaranteed to not end up in your armpits.Kamikuza - 26-8-2014 at 09:24 PM
Lean back against the harness more. I can usually ride with a waist just fine, until I crash then it ends up in my armpits... I prefer the seat for
overpowered boosting, the waist for "surfing".
Mystic has a product called Strappies that should, in theory, turn any waist harness into a hybrid like the OR Session. Other option is a waist/seat
like the Mystic Star...B-Roc - 27-8-2014 at 05:02 AM
I have a spreader bar pad as pictured in the video and it helped for sure but ultimately I replaced that with a pivoting spreader bar and it works way
better than the standard hammerhead bar and pad. The hook can pivot up and down which prevents the kite from torqueing the bar up your chest. You
may want to consider a pivoting bar.
As you progress you will want to start using waist harness .... It makes whole world difference when you start jumping and need to twist your body

Many people are saying that I simply need to make the harness tighter. If it's tight enough to not slide up on me, how will I be able to twist my body
inside the harness to make a safe landing? Likely part of my problem is that I'm so slim.
I may have to check out those strappies. Wonder if I could make my own...probably not worth the time.indigo_wolf - 27-8-2014 at 07:29 AM

Everyone is listing the Strappies at $35.
You might be able to make your own, but given the scale of economics, you aren't going to save any money.
1.5 inch webbing for primary attachment straps
1 inch webbing for secondary attachment straps
2-2.5 for leg straps
Lining material for leg straps
Closed cell foam for leg straps
Multiple sizes of tri-glides
It will all add up and if you can't source it all local or from a single source, you are going to get burned on shipping.

And plus, it will likely never look as nice as theirs...Kamikuza - 28-8-2014 at 04:06 AM
^ zigackly.
There's one thing wrong with the hammerhead spreader bar - its made by Dakine :D although one of the locals has one and has used it for over 5
years...!Vince H. - 29-8-2014 at 07:01 AM
My solution, for new kiters especially, was to find a full waist harness that includes removable leg straps. It's been well received and the price is
okay as well.
My solution...two harnesses..
Dakine Vega - (seat) for land boarding (I like the lower hook point keeps my CG down lower)
Dakine Renegade- (waist) for water (higher hook point helps body dragging in water, the seat harness seems to pull me at the hips..spinning me out in
body drag mode)
I agree waist harness caters to those who have certain body types...I seem to do well with either...(lucky)..
I like that HYBRID idea....
As far as comfort? I would say a good seat harness is hard to beat for land...I tend to NOT fly the kite at 12 o'clock as much with waist
harness...(keep it lower)..in water...
Kamikuza - 30-8-2014 at 05:07 AM
I got a Fusion and a Renegade too. For the land - which I haven't done in years - I use the Ozone SB harness... different feel for sure.
Lots of people swear by the Dakine board shorts things... forget what they're called but they're only for skinny folks
Dynabar might be an option too...PHREERIDER - 30-8-2014 at 07:49 PM
here we go, custom! waist harness hillbilly seat. the harness is actually at combo waist/seat harness with seat rolled up.
and this is the "why".....hillbilly pants and seat harness just did not mix well for me. seat did not go over the pads. so i just attached them.
worked great ...for land board. for water? not what u want, but tidy for all day ATB
tether on back of harness
attached

Wow, that's perfect! I wanted to get a bum protector anyway. Any recommendation on a good one? Also, do you wear it under or over pants? I wanted to
get one that I could use in the winter when snowboarding as well as when landboarding.erratic winds - 1-9-2014 at 09:58 AM
jadog- ones shown in photo are Hillbilly brand impact shorts. I have some and dig em. Sizing runs small, perhaps order larger size than normal. I
wear mine for all ATB sessions as well as any time on the snowboard. I wear mine under my shorts/pants. DEMON makes some very nice ones as well, they
breathe a bit better than the Hillbilly ones.PHREERIDER - 1-9-2014 at 05:59 PM
under the pants , but can go over. they are really not designed for "outer wear" a bit soft/fragile.
its a set up step so it gets deleted if the water is good. it definitely adds to the ampage ! i will stay on land in higher winds if i'mi already
wearing... so its a choice. esp if its a weak wetsuit ride or lit land board session??? usually both....
but that looks like this, https://vimeo.com/35996229 and thats same harness with seat downWindy Heap - 1-9-2014 at 07:37 PM
I'm totally stoked.
1) my wife loves me and spoils me rotten.
2) she doesn't give me the evil eye when a new kite shows up.
3) 23 year wedding anniversary last week, yes we attended a kite festival 6 hours of sunburn and sore arms/legs/back I was still flying.
4) I'm getting myself wayyyyy more comfortable getting hooked in with a waist harness myself.
5) She was excited when I just won an ebay auction for HER OWN own waist harness.
6) Watching other land boarders and buggies on the beach recently, her first comment was "that looks fun"
7) another 2 kite festivals we're attending in the next 4 weeks.
I
am
blessed.
she spoils me rotten and "mostly" puts up with my sheeiit..........
yay major stoke city for her first harness, that's a big step for noobie flyers!
