2015 WEENIE ROAST!!!! Lets finalize it.

soliver - 10-3-2015 at 08:04 PM

Hey guys,... just thinking maybe we could do another weenie roast this year. I won't be at the campgrounds, but thought maybe we could do it at one of the pavilions at Dunes Park (or whatever the name is of the fancy parking area by kite beach).

Maybe lunch? Maybe Dinner? Dunno.

Just thinking out loud. I really enjoyed it 2 yrs ago when we all got together and ate hotdogs cooked (many burnt) over the fire and enjoyed each other's company... Thought maybe we could do it again.

Thoughts?

mougl - 10-3-2015 at 09:39 PM

If I can make it, count me in! Was def. one of the highlights of JIBE 2013!

Weenie roast

Cheeks - 10-3-2015 at 11:47 PM

Hi there gang. Been a while, was having problems with my somehow lost PKF registration.

Last year was a washout at the camp ground for me so I like the idea of the pavilion for some good ole weenie fellowship under cover. Did those last few words sound weird? You know what I mean.

Might want to ask Angus to see if we have to reserve it in advance
and what hours we can use it till.

Anybody got a villa with a pool?

Hey All, I am so ready for a week at JIBE!

Last year we had an impromptu lunch cookout at the kitefort on Thursday (or Friday?). That worked out real well, and I know Angus mentioned that we should do it again this year. Also, last I heard, this year the kitefort will be need to be at Great Dunes Park anyway, just south of where it normally stays. Who needs a pavilion when we've got a KITEFORT!!

3shot - 11-3-2015 at 11:02 AM

Great dunes will probably be better anyway with all that new hotel sun bather traffic. Man I can't wait to see everyone again!

pokitetrash - 11-3-2015 at 11:06 AM

Them fancy folk who rent out the pavilion will have a cow when I step out of the Kite Fort in my BVDs scratching and yawning with my coffee cup!

soliver - 11-3-2015 at 04:10 PM

Well one way or another, let's git-r-done and eat some hot dogs... I'll wear my BVDs too, it'll be a grand time.

TEDWESLEY - 13-3-2015 at 07:30 PM

Hot Doggity!

soliver - 17-3-2015 at 03:24 PM

Hey Angus, now that you're back on the forum, do you have any input?... You think we can take over one of the smaller pavilions and do some burgers and dogs one day for lunch?

Do you HAVE to rent the pavilions or are they "up for grabs"... Or should we get a small grill to set up outside the kite fort? (If that's ok with Chris)

acampbell - 17-3-2015 at 04:24 PM

Yeah Spencer we should be cool. I have a call into the Jekyll Island Authority to make sure we have all our permits secured. Last I checked, only the Great Dunes Pavilion deck requires a reservation and fee. It is used a lot for weddings and all kinds of civic stuff. The other little shelters with grills are up for first come, first served, and there are plenty of them. There is usually electricity and running water nearby too. I'll double check tomorrow.

Sounds like a hoot!

soliver - 17-3-2015 at 05:17 PM

GREAT!

Ok gang I'll be on the Island Wednesday through Sunday... I was thinking Thursday lunch might be good... Get all loaded up on grilled meat the hit the beach and ride!... Anyone else have another idea... We can make it potluck like we did at the campground 2 yrs back!

Bring a chair and a food item!!!

Michael Gaylan - 18-3-2015 at 04:10 PM

Hey bro! Glad to see you back on here. I know it's a PKF thingy...

can you say yea..

roflmfao!

frankiter - 19-3-2015 at 09:59 AM

I guess I was so wrapped up in getting back to the kitefort that I forgot about the small pavilions. One of those would work great. I'll bring the cookies!

Hey Angus, where exactly will the kitefort be this year - has that been determined yet?

acampbell - 19-3-2015 at 10:30 AM

I just spoke w/ JIA. Kitefort will be just south of old location in NE corner of Great Dunes Park. The restaurant parking lot is no longer state-managed and is now privately managed by the new restaurant slated to open April 16. I'll survey the site later this weekend when back in town and post pics.

pokitetrash - 19-3-2015 at 10:47 AM

Hey Angus, If you can get the Fort close to water and electric that would da bomb! No worries if you can't. I have new batteries..

acampbell - 23-3-2015 at 11:44 AM

We re-surveyed the site and it looks good. There is a small picnic pavilion with one table, one grill and four electrical outlets and they are 60' from where you would park the Kite Fort. I have a couple of 100' extension cords. Water is more of a task, having to go another 100' or so to the great dunes deck and spigots.

I'll post pics when I get to another PC.

acampbell - 23-3-2015 at 12:07 PM

My car is parked where Kite Fort will be (first three spots are handicapped). The picnic pavilion in the foreground is 60' from the car. By way of reference to where we are, the weather station pole, located right in front of the old Kite Fort location, can be seen to the right in the picture. Double click on pic for larger view.

shanghi some juice ! now things are moving along

acampbell - 23-3-2015 at 12:16 PM

View from Lot to the park. A larger pavilion with three tables and two grills is about 60' beyond the pavilion in view here. double click pic for larger view

Thanks for the update Angus. Counting down the days to greatness!!!

frankiter - 23-3-2015 at 12:52 PM

Angus, any chance Chris could park parallel to the sidewalk? I know that would take up 3-4 spots, but it might be a better set up for the kitefort. It would be nice to have the awning face the beach and pavilions. Possible, or asking too much?

acampbell - 23-3-2015 at 12:55 PM

I can check. Will that include your car?

Thanks Marc... We can always depend on you for a good wiener joke.

Love the map Markite!!! I wanna see the UFO crash site too... But I thought it was the X-men who crashed on JI?!?!

Looks like we can get set up well for a good wiener roast!!! How bout we pick a day? I'm thinking Thursday lunch... Any objections?

mark you beat me to what I was going to do with the map imagery but you did a better job than I could have. But Spencer is right;'the UFO crash site was right accross the street in the dunes where they built the X-men set. Rocket ship and all. Funny part was after millions of dollars it was all dumped on the cutting room floor and filmed again somewhere else.

Sorry Spence... I can't help myself. I'm a one trick pony.... :dunno:

soliver - 23-3-2015 at 07:26 PM

Nah, ...you're just a wiener

acampbell - 1-4-2015 at 01:46 PM

OK, all set for JIBE with permits confirmed, including Kite Fort.

Nancy at JIA confirms that to use the pavilions, just throw a cooler or some other paraphernalia out there early in the day to make it look "in use" and it's ours all we want.

There is pavilion 1 nearest the Kite Fort with one grill and one table, or pavilion 2 just beyond it with 2 grills and three tables. All have four electrical outlets.

3shot - 1-4-2015 at 03:03 PM

Man just about a month to go!!!!

soliver - 1-4-2015 at 03:23 PM

Thanks mucho Angus!... ought to be great!!!

Everyone ok with Thursday?

markite - 1-4-2015 at 10:05 PM

any day is fine with us - we'll play it as it goes

tridude - 2-4-2015 at 07:42 AM

Hope to make this one..................

soliver - 23-4-2015 at 04:46 PM

I was initially thinking Thursday lunch, but Thursday is my daughter's 7th birthday and I don't want to be too preoccupied thinking about lunch and ruin my mini golf game :D,... so I'm gonna say lets do Friday Lunch at one of the Pavilions at Great Dunes Park... sort of closing out the week with food and fellowship.

I'll bring Hot Dogs, buns, and some condiments (someone else will need to bring some more too so we have enough)... bring yourself and some food items to share... we'll need some burgers and chips and stuff like that too I'm sure. In 2013 Chris brought some corn we threw on the grill and it was sweet. Might want to bring a folding chair too.

I can bring a bag of charcoal too.

Michael Gaylan - 23-4-2015 at 05:43 PM

Hamburger meat/buns, Italian and Polish sausage/buns Sauerkraut onions, relish, ketchup, mustard anything else you can think of?

3shot - 23-4-2015 at 05:48 PM

The tides get later and later as the week progresses. A Friday shin dig would be a good way to pass the time til the sand opens up. We missed the closing jibe luncheon last year, so I'm all in for a little fore planning. My wife is saying a big pan of homemade Mac n cheese.

:lol::lol::lol:

and good call on the Friday tide thing.

flyguy0101 - 28-4-2015 at 08:32 AM

Friday sounds good with us- we will talk about what to bring once we are down there but we can do anything or what is needed- although I make a mean sesame noodle pasta or a cilantro lime infused coleslaw. Of course having it at the end we could use it as a corn event (Clean Out Refrigerator Night) - this way we all have less to carry home / throw away. So excited was actually figuring out our menu for the week given the late tides looks like it will be a lot of "light" meals.

3shot - 7-5-2015 at 07:59 PM

We are still bringing a pan of Mac n cheese to kite fort at noon.
I would really like to get a group photo at kite fort tomorrow at lunchtime with everyone at JIBE. Wives, kids, pets, anyone that was here this week. Please stop by.

soliver - 8-5-2015 at 02:45 AM

OK gang ...

Time: 12:00 NOON
Place: Great Dunes Park... at the pavilion nearest the Kite Fort

Food and Kite fellowship... bring some food to share with the gang and join in the chat with all your PKF buddies.

We will have the pavilion grill and Davis said he may bring his grill too and I'll be cooking up some dogs.

3shot - 8-5-2015 at 06:09 PM

This was one for the books. Fantastic fellowship and food.
Just too much fun at the roast!!

soliver - 8-5-2015 at 07:36 PM

Indeed, the Weenie Roast was a huge success! I'm just as excited to see the pics and footage from the meal as I am from all the buggying!!!!

I had a really great time getting to know you all a little better, and thanks to everyone who brought food and a special thanks to Chris for allowing us to use his grill tools and thanks to Jason for helping me out at the grill!!

Great meal fo sho!!!!

acampbell - 9-5-2015 at 05:22 PM

Great job Spencer and all! That was a lot of fun and will surely be repeated. Can't wait for the pics.
