rent a demo flysurfer 8m $75/month

powerzone - 27-12-2015 at 04:47 PM

curious to try something different here... anyone wanting to rent a demo 8mSpeed4 for afew weeks? month? season? until summer? whatever, i'm open to it, email me for arrangements.

considering $75/month and buyer pays shipping which can be either returned back to me or direct arrangements with the next kite renter

we'll have to write up repair terms for damage outside of normal wear and hopefully the honor system will keep the kite alive.

bigkid - 27-12-2015 at 05:19 PM

Is this the one I borrowed last summer? The one I wanted to buy? The only bar kite that would fit in my FB quiver? One sweet kite!
This is a great opportunity!

stetson05 - 27-12-2015 at 07:11 PM

I'm curious. My 8m neo is working fine but doesn't have the same finesse the new kites have. Do you demo/rent a 12m? My 11m is in the same boat.

Bladerunner - 27-12-2015 at 08:27 PM

The idea of renting a Peak is of interest to me.

powerzone - 27-12-2015 at 11:34 PM

@ BIGKID : yes its the same kite
@ STETSON05 @ BLADERUNNER : no this is the only kite involved the rental idea so far

bigkid - 28-12-2015 at 06:31 AM

If you all don't try out this kite, you have no room to endorse your own kite, what ever it is. Just my OPINION on a great, low wind, power house, lite weight depower kite.

gabor - 28-12-2015 at 08:26 AM

Which 8m Speed4, the Lotus?

vtliter - 28-12-2015 at 09:39 AM

What fabric is this?

vtliter - 28-12-2015 at 12:57 PM

ssayre - 28-12-2015 at 06:34 PM

Let's do it. I'm game. Might not be for a couple weeks until my fields recover from the rain.

powerzone - 28-12-2015 at 08:03 PM

deluxe

stetson05 - 3-1-2016 at 11:22 PM

I am interested, especially once it warms up. I hope to get out on the snow soon but I'm not sure how likely that is.

ragden - 4-1-2016 at 07:07 AM

An 8m S4? That does sound tempting. Though, I wouldn't be interested in it as a light wind kite. My Psycho4 8m is getting long in the tooth. Not ready to replace it yet, but curious how the S4 compares.

Speed4 Deluxe will kick Psycho's @ss in means of performance, stability and lightwind. 8m is a small size thought and I guess it gotta be your landkite/snowkite or a hydrofoil wing.

bigkid - 4-1-2016 at 11:21 AM

I could buggy with the speed 4 in 5 to 7mph wind.
My guess is you could board on the beach in 3 to 6mph, the flexboard and my 220 lbs would be no problem.

ragden - 4-1-2016 at 11:32 AM

My 8m Psycho4 is my go-to kite for water with winds over 25mph. On snow, 20+, buggy 15-20+. As it is depower, I'd be surprised if it has the power to get you going in sub 10mph winds on anything but ice... And if it can, then I would suspect I would be severely over powered in the conditions in which I fly my Psycho4.

bigkid - 4-1-2016 at 12:18 PM

I was actually surprised at how light the total amount of weight was for the kite. And as a fluke, I got it out just to play with it. After a drug me down the beach for a bit I decided to try out the buggy. At that point I fell in love with the kite.
I'm not a depower kite fan, but this kite change my attitude towards them. I would have no problem adding this kite to my quiver along with all the other sizes in this particular kite.

I don't know how well this kite would do on water, as I can only speculate. I do know that Th e 8 m speed 4 deluxe, that day was equal to and 8 m fix bridal kite.
Jon actually called me that afternoon and asked when he would get his kite back, and I told him I was going to keep it. And for the record I asked Him if I could buy it. I was politely told that it was his go to kite and there was no selling it. I am still holding my breath, ha ha.

ragden - 4-1-2016 at 04:07 PM

That is crazy man. Maybe I will have to give that kite a go. I can't even tell you the number of insane high wind sessions I've had on my 8m Psycho4, so it's kind of hard to fathom replacing it...

My question for you bigkid, would be, what do you think of the high wind potential of the 8m S4?

powerzone - 4-1-2016 at 05:31 PM

for me 8m kites top out at around 35knots , if it reaches 40 its time for a 6m

stetson05 - 6-1-2016 at 09:24 AM

That wind range sounds about like what I would expect. My 8m does about that without the smoothness of a flysurfer. I was out once and it started gusting to 40mph or more and I just couldn't keep my board on the water very well. I was skipping from swell to swell just trying to get back in. On hardpack beach my 8 will go down below 10 but just for cruising. 5 to 7mph is pretty great for the low end.

powerzone - 7-1-2016 at 09:40 AM

more details are explained in the beginning of the thread. who's first ?

jrhook - 7-1-2016 at 03:46 PM

Chomping at the bit ...

loco - 7-1-2016 at 11:56 PM

I think it's a fantastic idea. I will absolutely consider it.

Samm - 12-1-2016 at 12:39 PM

Bar and lines?

powerzone - 12-1-2016 at 07:31 PM

complete

Is the speed4 available for rent?

malashev11 - 9-2-2016 at 08:34 AM

Everything i read about them says it will replace my blowups and do well on land but i am very hesitant to spend money without trying. These things arent cheap. Is this kite available for rent right now? we're mid windy season here :)

This is a forum where people discuss ideas and comment on topics as far as I know. Some people need to get over themselves and stop trying to make issues on this forum where there is none to make themselves seem so important .

Your just doing it on purpose now. You know you would t like it if someone piggy backed on your for sale or in this case for rent item.

ssayre - 9-2-2016 at 01:23 PM

I'm not the forum police. Post what you will.

John is a standup guy that's been in the business for quite a while with the knowledge and expertise to back up anything that he has done or said. Of all the people that I personally know I would have no problem doing business with him. He is a man of his word with the integrity and class to back up Everything.
Give him a shout, or a phone call and see if the kite is available right now. If you need his personal information I can get that to you.

I just tossed that one at you in friendly jest because of your perpetual Peak-as-the-antiChrist rant. Don't you know that the Peaks are better and more important than the wind itself?

windrider1 - 9-2-2016 at 03:25 PM

peaks will go the way of the dodo bird and c quads in a few years. :Ange09:

Feyd - 9-2-2016 at 04:50 PM

My sense is that John at Powerzone is insured for this kind of arrangement. When we rent out a kite we only rent to people who are certified IKO or Pasa or have taken lessons with us. They are required to fill out pre-meds and waivers before we let them touch a kite. We pay a premium to be covered.

In the event that something happens to the renter or to someone else in the use of Windrider's "rental" my bet is Windrider isn't insured against potential occurrences and here in "the land of the lawsuit" he would ultimately be on the hook for damages to the renter as well as collateral damages to anyone or anything else involved. It's one type of exposure to lend someone a kite to try, it's a whole different thing once money changes hands. But hey, you might make a quick buck letting strangers take your kite for a ride so what the heck right?

This is John's thread. He's a dealer offering a useful service. If Windrider, or anyone else for that matter want's to start their own half a$$ed "rental" operation, expose themselves to liability and/or the risk of having potentially unqualified persons flogging their gear, they should start their own thread. Hijacking the thread of a legitimate dealer who has a long standing and good reputation in this forum is not only inappropriate it's simply low class. And if anyone has an issue with my assessment they can PM me or start another thread to begin a discussion inclusive of everyone in the forum.

I'm not going to discuss this further on this thread.

windrider1 - 9-2-2016 at 06:33 PM

Here we go with the drama and safety police . You know its a good idea not to comment more feyd , you know the old saying if you don't have anything good to say then better not to speak at all. You guys need to start your own forum lets see how long it last before everyone stops coming by. I think if I want to charge a small fee for someone to try out my gear its my right and not yours to decide . I am quite aware of the potential liabilitys involved but guess what anything in life can be a liability . I hardly think the situation is tht serious so you can cut it with the scare tactics. I am sure your minions would now jump in righ behind you with more scary comments . cue in 3,2,1

powerzone - 9-2-2016 at 08:20 PM

well this is all very interesting, but seriously... lets either close this particular thread and start a new one or just get back on track with legit interest in the rental and who currently has it or wants to have it next.

thankyou to those with kind words about Powerzone Kitesports, it seems the model of service, care, and respect is making a difference to kiters worldwide.

i haven't lost interest yet in the offer, but its heading down a funky road that frankly i didn't expect. i still believe the PKF members/family can handle this rental 'idea' in a stand-up professional way.

stetson05 - 9-2-2016 at 10:35 PM

I agree John. I am interested in it and will send you a message. For what its worth, I wouldn't hesitate to do business with John to purchase or repair my kites. He is a world class guy and ambassador for the sport.

Windstruck - 10-2-2016 at 03:27 AM

John - My humble apologies for my part in veering this thread off in an unnecessary direction. Best of luck with your rental program.
