I spent last week setting up my STD buggy (mean green) for the ice, with knobby tires and sheet metal screw studs. I went to Mayville, at the North
end of the lake but the ice was not good, so I came home, storing the buggy where it has been since I moved here, but I forgot to chain it down. I got
up this morning, and it was gone. If anyone in Western NY sees a Comp STD (Peter Lynn) for sale, please email me or u2u.Randy - 28-2-2016 at 10:12 AM
Sorry to hear that. I've had 2 windsurf boards stolen over the years so I know how you feel. Never recovered either one. You should contact the
police to report it, though it probably won't do you much good. Hard to see why someone would steal a kite buggy since there is not much of a market
in most places and if there are several riders they probably all know each other and their gear. Probably didn't know what it was.
(Amateur detective hour - take with a grain of salt) You might check Craig's List or the like to see if anyone has it listed (a friend on mine got his
laptop back that way). Or perhaps whoever stole it may have just wanted the metal. You might check local metal recycling places see if anyone has
brought in anything that sounds like it. Good luck. ssayre - 28-2-2016 at 10:34 AM
That stinks. Great tips from Randy. That's exactly the places I would look. bobalooie57 - 28-2-2016 at 01:01 PM
Thanks, guys. Good advice, I have already done all. The cop taking my report kind of chuckled when I said kite buggy, but was interested when I told
him what it is for. This town is quite hilly, and I'm hoping they weren't thinking drift cycle, or they might get hurt. I was also thinking scrap for
the stainless steel, so I have checked with the local yard as well. My bad for thinking people don't suck.PHREERIDER - 28-2-2016 at 06:32 PM
well that sucks! look at the bottom of local hills ! guess the no brakes will be a surprise riffclown - 28-2-2016 at 07:24 PM
People are, by nature, opportunists.. I truly hope you find and fully recover your gear. markite - 28-2-2016 at 11:04 PM
That's crappy - man it would nice to catch who ever ripped it off.
if it was kids wandering around and grabbed it , there's a chance it may not be too far away. If you see any neighborhood kids that you can be-friend
and ask them to keep an eye out and maybe even offer a small reward the kids just might see it around.shehatesmyhobbies - 29-2-2016 at 04:33 AM
Really hope mean green turns back up in one piece. Is there anything that people won't take? I'm with the others thinking it was likely taking for the
metal and will hopefully turn back up. Bladerunner - 29-2-2016 at 02:01 PM
I think Mark makes a good point about talking to some local kids and offering a reward! Cheeks - 29-2-2016 at 05:36 PM
Sorry for your loss. probably some kids using it on hills. Check the snow banks for high speed entries.
Another possibility is someone thats a power para glider(PPG) using a backpack motor that wants to convert over to a trike.
This seems to be a popular conversion. I've seen Flexi's and PL's used with some modifications but any buggy will work.
Check out your local airfields. Those guys usually buddy up in a small hanger. I've seen as many as 6 men using the same hanger.
It will probably be found as another color. Good Luck!bobalooie57 - 4-3-2016 at 01:00 PM
I got the most wonderful news today! A sharp eyed patrolman with the Jamestown, NY police department spotted a kid on a 10 speed, towing a kid on my
buggy! They have stripped the padding off the rails and painted everything blue, but I've got it back!Demoknight - 4-3-2016 at 01:09 PM
Great news indeed! So it was just some kids like we thought. Happy endings! Randy - 4-3-2016 at 01:34 PM
That's great news! The kid must not be very smart to be dragging it around like that. Its a pretty unique type of thing - easy to spot if it was out
in public like that. bigkid - 4-3-2016 at 01:47 PM
Well kudos to the police man who spotted your buggy. It's nice to see that some are actually looking instead of driving down the road talking on
their cell phones.......
As for the kid who was riding the 10 speed and the one in the buggy, I think I would ask them very politely with a big stick, to remove the blue
paint and put the buggy back to way it was.
Good to see that the use of United States hasn't disappointed me with their stupidity and genetically parent enhanced brain damage.Windstruck - 4-3-2016 at 01:48 PM

Ditto. I think they should be compelled to make some restitution for the pads and a fresh new powder coat.Cheeks - 4-3-2016 at 08:59 PM

RedSky - 5-3-2016 at 08:20 AM
That cheered me up. bobalooie57 - 5-3-2016 at 08:38 AM
Imagine how much it cheered me up! The officer told me that after questioning the boys, he believed that they had bought the item from someone in a
"shady area". I guess the ironic part was both back tires had gone flat, due to the screws I had put in to ride on the ice, which never happened. When
I put the screws in, they did not extend through the tread, but evidently, riding on the street, and possibly drifting the rear end put enough stress
on the tires to let the tips of the screws to pop through, puncturing the tubes! If I had been able to take it out on the ice, I probably would have
popped them myself, giving me a long walk of shame!
Oh yeah, they replaced the flat back tires and wheels with wheel chair wheels, and were riding down the street like that!ssayre - 5-3-2016 at 08:41 AM
I doubt the part where they said they purchased from someone in a shady area. That sounds like a convenient excuse for them stealing it. as long as
the frame was undamaged, that's still great you got it back regardless of the rest.
Are you talking about the large rear wheels of a wheel chair?bobalooie57 - 5-3-2016 at 08:54 AM
Yes on the large rear wheels, only they are ancient ones, with metal spokes like a bicycle tire, but solid rubber tires. It must have rode like a
dragster, the back axle sits a good 6" higher than the front. They also took off the home made back rest I had on it, then decided it needed one
after all, and attached the top half of an old wooden chair they broke, with rope and my old strapping. I suppose they could have been lying to the
police, but the officer tended to believe them, and that was good enough for me. I did get the original wheels and tires as well, so I'm just out the
padding, and the green, but it give me a reason to redecorate! FlyGuyFrank - 5-3-2016 at 10:10 AM
All's well that ends well!
Glad you got it back. You should take a pix of the buggy with the wheelchair wheels on it and make it your new avatar!
Frank (formerly NewbieFrank)skimtwashington - 5-3-2016 at 10:45 AM
No way they just bought it... innocently . The Cop should go home and watch more detective TV shows..
Did Officer say where kids lived?
No way kids paid(had money) for a buggy..... which they did not know what use it was for...from someone they didn't know.... from a shady area( what
area?) ...that they just happened to be in... from someone who just happened to be the real thief... and...
THEY stole it.
Regardless...glad you got it back though.

Wasn't Lucy from Jamestown?Randy - 5-3-2016 at 11:30 AM
They are guilty of possession of stolen property, at a minimum (and probably theft, as as well the charges for damaging your property.) Could be a
felony. I doubt the Cops will be wanting to go to the mat on investigating all of this, but in all likelihood they should end up in Juvy court with a
record (if they don't already have one.) You might well be doing these kids a favor by insisting on prosecuting the matter. RedSky - 6-3-2016 at 06:13 AM
Just kids having fun. I had my kite bike (BMX) stolen a few years ago. Won't see that again. Little buggers. Bladerunner - 6-3-2016 at 01:28 PM
Maybe I'm old. Maybe things have changed?
When I was young and we got caught with things like " stolen goods " the police would at least turn us over to our parents .
The kids parents no doubt have a better feel about how delinquent their kids may be. If not, they deserve to know.
Of course this was in a different day and age. Maybe the police and parents don't have enough time to follow through ? As it sits these kids feel like
they have gotten away with their game. EVEN being busted with it.
You learned a valuable lesson but I fear these kids have learned a very bad one?
( see Dad, I did learn from being punished by you ! R.I.P. ) :saint:bobalooie57 - 6-3-2016 at 01:52 PM
I agree that we grew up in a different age, BR. When we were small, we were taught respect of others property. Not to touch what doesn't belong to
you. If caught stealing, we were likely to be brought to our parents for (corporal) punishment, then the person we stole from, to apologize for our
deed and often get more punishment suggested by our victim. You are likely right that I should have pressed charges, and if I could have held the
parents responsible, for their neglect in teaching their children right from wrong, I would rather do that. I know the neighborhood where they
supposedly bought it and it doesn't surprise me
I had posted a reward poster at the 4 corners of main Street, if the kids had seen that, and called saying they found my buggy, should I have had them
arrested, or paid the reward?Cheeks - 10-3-2016 at 06:25 PM
A lesson well learned will save a young persons life.
Growing up in Kansas we when young were always told that if we stole,
shop lifted etc. that we would end up at the "Kansas State Reformatory for Youth Offenders".
It was an actual place right next to the BIG HOUSE! A huge sandstone and granite monster facility. It looked gruesome and terrifying! We saw the
pictures of this dungeon on the walls in the school offices and in the halls. My parents even had one on the wall in the kitchen. :o
Our parents always threatened us that they would send us to Hutchison, Kansas if we didn't get our s#it together and fly right!
Youth court was a place where you had to have an lawyer to get you off or a reduced sentence because they would throw the book at you!
I had to spend one summer mowing yards to pay the lawyers fees back to my Dad and I still got community service from the court. Just took me one time
to straighten myself out and walk the straight and narrow line.
This nanny state we live in nowadays just gives a slap on the wrist and lets them go. What a shame. Brant - 10-3-2016 at 08:32 PM
It's amazing what kids can get away with these days. My dad had his truck stolen (got it back) by some teenagers from a neighbouring town. This was
the third vehicle they stole to joyride in that night. A month later the same kids stole another 4 vehicles. Obviously they learned their lesson eh?
According to the police these four kids did $200,000 grand in damages in 2 months. But they're all minors, so their not even allowed to release the
names. Such a wonderful system we have these days.AudereEng - 11-3-2016 at 08:19 AM
Lots of the kids are getting bad feedback these days.
Check out microaggressions and see how it is being applied to even college kids.
Soon teachers will not even be able to give them a grade much less putting it on a curve where 1/30 gets an A.
I wonder who is missing a wheelchair?
Cool that you got the buggy back...markite - 11-3-2016 at 09:03 AM
Kylie Jenner looks good now but wait till she gets older like her father or is it her mother.
bigkid - 11-3-2016 at 03:03 PM
This has got me thinking about my buggies. My Apexx would cost over 4 grand to replace and the hard core setup would be about the same. So I called
the local police Dept and asked a few questions about them if they were stolen. I was told it would be grand theft as an expensive car or airplane. So
after talking to the insurance company about coverage and replacement if stolen, I decided to buy an AK-47 and a pit bull. Only have to call the
police to clean up the remains.
