Who is still making high-end buggys?

jeepersjoey - 13-4-2018 at 06:08 PM

It might be time to change buggys.

I have a Libre Full Race.

Lots of defunct makers (Dakites, Ivanpah, Xxtreme, VTT). Who is still making buggys?

Do any of you want to sell your high-end buggy?

Assuming you already checked in with him, but have you pinged Van to see if he wants to fire up the forge and make you one? Folks seem to really like his. I certainly like his seat and side rail kit.

shehatesmyhobbies - 13-4-2018 at 09:05 PM

Sysmic, MG, GT. I personally own a GT and know that two more locally have bought one and absolutely love them as do I. Three GT's here at the Bash and we have two MG buggy's and at least one Sysmic

soliver - 13-4-2018 at 10:07 PM

Davis (cheeks) was selling his Ivanpah recently, not sure if he ever got it sold or not.

BeamerBob - 14-4-2018 at 05:31 AM

Dodd Gross just got a GT Rapide and other than my buggy, it is the best fitting I've ever sat in. It has a wider axle than my Apexx which I like even though I've never had issues with my buggy geometry.

jeepersjoey - 14-4-2018 at 12:30 PM

I offered to Van but he is not building anymore.

I sent a message to Davis and have not gotten a response yet.

The sysmic S1 is $1644. Shipping is $467. Plus, unless told otherwise, I am assuming that I need to pay the VAT (+$244). Over $2000.

I need to find a U.S.A. Builder or someone here that is selling and has already forgotten how much they paid to ship it!!

BeamerBob - 14-4-2018 at 03:16 PM

You don't have to pay the VAT tax.

cheezycheese - 14-4-2018 at 03:33 PM

Sysmic are currently out of stock... :(

jeepersjoey - 14-4-2018 at 04:51 PM

Yup...and no response to the email I sent a week ago.

How do you know all of the items are out of stock?

It seems like flexifoil is out of the buggy business.

Not the high end models you are after but they made a great buggy.

SAD :(

I also thought of flexifoil earlier. Also Popeye the Welder.

Great, I have two buggies and neither of them are "current". I don't care, I love them both for their own reasons.

sand flea - 15-4-2018 at 05:26 PM

Are Apexx buggys still being made?

jy1zoom - 15-4-2018 at 06:03 PM

jeepersjoey - 16-4-2018 at 07:28 PM

I sent them an email asking what they had available.

Their website does not appear to have been updated since late 2017.

Mougle...how much did you pay for yours and what was the shipping cost?

Paul

mougl - 16-4-2018 at 08:18 PM

I am not at liberty to discuss the price. Shipping was around 400 from France. Maarten (owner of MG if I am not mistaken) has been extremely busy lately so he might take a little time to respond.

markite - 16-4-2018 at 08:27 PM

Maarten (MG) had shut down making buggies a while back and then had gone into making really nice landsailers. I think that Edge buggy being a one off was one of Maartens recent example of his continuous interest in exploring design and still making buggies for himself and then selling as he gets a new idea to explore - he does keep in touch with people that had purchased his buggies and are selling used and you never know he may have something new buggy wise coming out - it looks like he is more active on Facebook if you search MG-kites

mougl - 16-4-2018 at 08:30 PM

Most of my interaction with maarten is via Facebook. I can't wait to get my edge!!!!!! ALL of his buggies are built quite well with a keen focus on not only quality but function, aesthetics, and comfort. No, they are not the lowest cost buggies around but their value (in my opinion) is amazing! You could spend a lot more and not get the quality he puts out.

soliver - 16-4-2018 at 08:58 PM

Will you have the MG by JIBE time?.... I'd love to see it in person!

keep in mind MG is just one person, Maarten de Graauw, making things himself. (You can see photos of Maarten racing the edge buggy last fall on his f.b. photos when you go to Maartens personal page)

Martin responded

jeepersjoey - 17-4-2018 at 05:00 AM

He is out of buggies to sell.

He has two AERO II that he is testing. Once testing is done, he will build again.

I ask on the price because he did not answer that question and there are no prices on his site. Trying to figure out if he is selling a $1000, $1500, or $2000 Buggy.

Granted, he may make a few versions.

If you are keeping tally on who is building or has them:
VTT - nope.
MG - nope
XXtreme - nope
Apex - nope
Sysmic - nope
Flexifoil - nope

Luckily...I have a year to troll the used adverts.

eric67m - 17-4-2018 at 05:20 AM

Why are you looking for something different than your Libre pro race? Whay is it missing or not doing? What are you looking for in your next buggy, Bigfoot tires,
more fitted side rails, front suspension?

Cerebite - 17-4-2018 at 08:21 AM

Did you look back at BBS [Richards new buggy maker] out of Germany? When we were on their site [albeit tenuous in English] they have three models that appear to be of good quality and size for holding down Shuttle landing drogues.

Cerebite - 17-4-2018 at 08:30 AM

I take it since you started this thread that you are also striking out on finding a Libre Bigfoot front end? Or did you determine that you have bent your side rails? [for those of you watching from the cheap seats his buggy looked like it needed an alignment when it was sitting on the Playa including very eccentric tyre wear].

jeepersjoey - 17-4-2018 at 01:01 PM

Two items...
1. I am thinking of going to 17" skinny's. To do this, I need a new front end. I have to assume the front end is $400-700. At which point I am 1/4 to 1/2 the way to a new buggy.

2. My buggy exhibited weird tire wear after the 10 days on the playa. Granted, I was somewhat sideways during most of this time and the tires are made to go straight ahead, not at a constant 20-45 degree twist.

Bonus item: I am completely stripping my Libre and removing all bolts. Once I put it back together, I hope to be able to see if there is twist in the axle such that it still shows the ~1-2" height difference that John mentioned.

Lastly...The Buggy can handle my multiple runs to 40 mph but I am still strapped and want to consider (to protect my girlie hips) hot-wiring to the buggy. This will require a more solid, albeit offset, neck.

Ok...I also like shiny things.

jeepers: There is a facebook group dedicated to kites/buggies/boards for sale and several NICE buggies have popped up there. everything from PL to PTW, Apexx, MG, sysmic, etc.

I should have it by then. You are welcome to take her for a ride if I do!

khaakon - 17-4-2018 at 04:11 PM

Yes, spare parts will always be more expensive than a new complete unit, or bying second hand stuff. I bought a new front fork and midi XL wheels for my fullrace: Pictures here @ Google photos

Libre forks and parts here, maybe a new fork is not as expensive as you think. But shipping to US surely (surly..) adds to the bill.

Have you considered the Libre Supertruck II From 1150 Euros and up.

Libre also has other lekker and more expensive stuff, particularly 'the Majestic'.

At the end of the day, though - I would recommend getting second hand stuff, most always the better bargain.

mougl - 17-4-2018 at 04:28 PM

Check this link. LOTS of nice buggies, etc here!

Scroll down a bit...there is an MG Croozer for a little over 1k USD

Glx - 17-4-2018 at 06:09 PM

I looked at that a while back. But then settled on the mg supra because I was told I might not fit on that croozer. Shipping from the Netherlands should set you back another 400-500 euro.

Lol... been going back and forth with him this week Genci - might not fit how..? Width or lenght...?

Glx - 17-4-2018 at 06:52 PM

Not sure cheesy. After we had a few messages back and forth, I told him my size and he said it might not fit. I have heard that the croozer is massive, so at the time I thought that he might have got spooked by my facebook account that at that time was just recently oppened and with no posts or pictures :dunno:

awindofchange - 17-4-2018 at 07:32 PM

I still have plans on making the Ivanpah, with moving locations it has been difficult to get my shop back up and running. It's still in the works and I have already designed the Ivanpah II which gives a lot of improvements over the first gen buggy. It may still be a year or so before my shop gets built (frustrating) but I will surely let everyone know when we're back in production.

Blitzhound - 17-4-2018 at 08:50 PM

I don't know if all Croozers were built the same or not but...I'm 6'8" 310lbs and I fit my Croozer fine. I did add 2 1/4" spacers up front at the neck clamp to widen the side rails a bit. Now it fits like a glove. That's two 1/4" pieces. For a total of 1/2". Not 2 1/4
