I took my npw5 out today for its first flight. This is my first experience with the nasa wing. It was kinda touchy. I needed to stay on the brakes
alittle or the nose started to fold in. Is this normal ? There was a small "sweet spot " if I gave it no brakes the nose would fold in and if I gave
it alittle too much then it backed down to the ground.
NPWfever - 8-11-2007 at 06:05 PM
yes brake tension on the NPW's is critical. There must be a little bit of pressure in the brakes at all times.
kitemaker4 - 8-11-2007 at 06:07 PM
I have been making and flying nasa wings for several years now. They are great in gusty winds. They need brake input all the time. The higher the
wind speed the more brake they require. Once you get more flying time with it you will be able to stay in the sweet spot all the time.
We fly them on handles if you are in a parking lot with poles and most of mine are set up with 100 ft. lines and I also have a 10 ft. lineset I use
with them.

The instructions say you can fly it on dual lines. Anyone tried it ? I assume when you connect the bridles its in the sweet spot? Thats the only way I
can see it working.
art_lessing - 8-11-2007 at 08:45 PM
they handle fine when on two lines but relaunch is tough and landing is too especially when its blowing hard....
art_lessing - 9-11-2007 at 10:56 AM
susan,
how much for a 10m if I send you all the materials?..I just want a huge black kite....

Hey Dan I sent you a u2u.

DAKITEZ - 10-11-2007 at 01:26 PM
I cannot wait to get more wind so I can try again. I wasn't sure if I was having line issues or if this how they fly. Now i know that this is how
they fly I can learn to work with it.
kitemaker4 - 12-11-2007 at 01:28 PM
Hey Dan
I can make up a 10 meter nasa wing. I have the plans all the supplies and black material.

DAKITEZ - 12-11-2007 at 11:55 PM
I got another chance at it. winds 15 - 20 mph. The kite pulled me across the field with little problem. The kite needs alot of input though. With the
wind pulling you that hard it was difficult to try and keep the handles in the kites sweet spot. I flew Sthrasher38 flexi bullet 4.5 in the same wind
and it was alot better experience. Much easier to control and also a lot of pull.
Sthrasher38 - 16-11-2007 at 05:52 PM
I knew you would like that. It flies alot easer and you can take it to the zenith to get a break. I don't know who is next in line for the Ace But
maybe you can ask DaVinch if you can have a try at it may be something you like before you go out a buy.
DAKITEZ - 16-11-2007 at 08:57 PM
I took the npw5 out again today in light winds 5 - 8 mph. It would fly good then all of a sudden do something just crazy. A few times it just
reveresed right to the ground and a couple times it did a reverse spin to the ground. I think i found the problem though. I was putting the kite away
and I unhooked my lines to check the lenghts. WAY OFF !!! the brake lines are the same length, but the powers are longer. One power was about 5 inches
longer than the brake and the other about 7 inches longer. So i will even them all up, before next flight. All 4 are suppose to be the same correct ??
DAKITEZ - 16-11-2007 at 08:58 PM
Also no need to borrow the ace. I have 20 of them on order.
Sthrasher38 - 16-11-2007 at 09:00 PM
20!! What sizes?
DAKITEZ - 16-11-2007 at 09:06 PM
Ace 3.5 , 5, 6, 7, 8
Blaze 5, 7, 8.5
legend 4.5, 5.5
Sthrasher38 - 16-11-2007 at 09:11 PM
Your kidding right? Your wife is going to kill ya! I know now that your mood is correct.
Sthrasher38 - 16-11-2007 at 09:13 PM
When are you getting them? Lets go flying!! Do they come with line sets? Hell I'm excited now. My wife askes if they come with wind?
DAKITEZ - 19-11-2007 at 01:33 AM
No joke! I got into their wholesale program and I needed to order 20 to get the deal. They should be here mid december. I didn't see anywhere that
wind was included I will keep 3 - 4 and ebay the rest after I
try them out. We wll meet up and I'll let you give em a try. oh and yes they all come with lines and handles.
BeamerBob - 19-11-2007 at 08:15 AM
I thought about this as well. What is the discount from their web prices in the program, if it's cool to ask?
Pdxnebula - 19-11-2007 at 08:35 AM
20???!!! & I thought I had the bug... So Bob you getting antsy for the ProFoil yet??? Hope ya got the Purple one, its a sweet kite, &
very cool looking in the air, dont lets its size mislead you, its got a ton of grunt for its size, when the winds pickup... Im still waiting for some
more decent winds(With no rain... Anyone in the SE need some rain, we've got plenty!!!), to get back out & give the 3.5m another try...
BeamerBob - 19-11-2007 at 09:32 AM
Yes, I check the front porch every day when I get home. It doesn't show up on the shipping tracker either. I just hope it's on its way and that
there is wind in the box. I have 200/150 lines ordered as well. They will prolly beat the kite here. And yes, I did get the purple one.
We could use some of your rain if you don't mind. They just dropped discharge out of Atlanta's lake Lanier to conserve reserves. It could get ugly
if we don't get some moisture back in the ground. We had a mulch pile spontaneously catch on fire last Friday on a job site. Some rain would keep
that stuff cooled off.
DAKITEZ - 19-11-2007 at 09:50 AM
BeamerBob they all vary alittle bit, but they are roughly $50 cheaper than their site and alittle more on the larger ace's.
BeamerBob - 19-11-2007 at 09:55 AM
Some guy in Australia is selling them at a premium on ebay and I asked him if his customers realized he was selling them for more than they could go
to the Pansh website and buy direct, and he said "no, you would be surprised". So I guess he is on their wholesale program too. He doesn't call the
kites Pansh, but just "Ace".
DAKITEZ - 19-11-2007 at 10:08 AM
I saw that also. he is making good money on his kites.
Sthrasher38 - 19-11-2007 at 06:05 PM
I want to try the 8 or 8.5 for sure before you sell.
DAKITEZ - 19-11-2007 at 06:16 PM
no problem we will try them all. I will let you know when I get them.
Sthrasher38 - 19-11-2007 at 06:21 PM
Cool thanks.
DAKITEZ - 26-11-2007 at 11:25 PM
I got the npw5 out again the other day. MUCH BETTER. I was able to get my lines all equalized and had a good steady 10 - 15 mph wind.
I'm getting the hang of this kite now. these kites need some practice time to keep them flying good and solid. I will say it incase some other newbie
is out there considering buying a nasa wing. NPW5's or nasa wings are not the easiest kites to fly for a newbie. I know there are some npw lovers out
there so please feel free to chime in and give your opinion.
Sthrasher38 - 27-11-2007 at 06:56 PM
I think iy would be a great buggy engine. It has lots of pull and is very fast. I am in search of good up wind mobility now!
NPWfever - 27-11-2007 at 07:08 PM
As far as I have experienced the NPW's aren't very good upwind kites. My ace and 3 meter will go farther out of the window. Still a great buggy engine
though, not good for snowkiting, boarding, and of course not kitesurfing. I made mine so it isn't going to be a good of a flyer as the purchased one
but I just can't get mine to do the "stunt" flying you see. I can do figure eights and loops but thats about it, anything else and the nose flips down
and the kite turns inside out. If you fly an NPW you know what I am talking about. :P
kitemaker4 - 28-11-2007 at 08:24 PM
When I fly nasa wings I have never had that problem when the nose flips down and the kite turns inside out. I fly them all the time.
What are you doing when that happens?
Susan
DAKITEZ - 28-11-2007 at 09:26 PM
I also have had the nose fold under, but never turn inside out either.
NPWfever - 28-11-2007 at 09:42 PM
Usually trying to do some stunt stuff. And you know how the nose will flip down but this is more extreme and the entire kite will follow suit and then
the back is facing me and it crashes. Hope that makes sense.
kitemaker4 - 29-11-2007 at 08:28 AM
For the nose to fold down you do not have enough tension on the brake lines.

bbrex - 7-12-2007 at 07:02 PM
When harnessed in with a NPW your cross over must be balanced between the power and brake so move your cross over down towards the middle of your
handles. When you fly it statically hold each handle with two fingers and move them up and down the handle until you have them balanced. This is where
your cross over needs to be. Once you have this set up use your harness, you will most likely need to put more pressure on your power lines until you
can give full power which actually depoweres the kite at the top of the window and it will auto zenith, with the top of the kite buckling towards you.
Once you have found the sweet spot, it may take several knots on your power leads to get it dialed it. Once correct you can actually fly the kite
without any hands at times. I love my RAG FLAPPERS!!

Sthrasher38 - 7-12-2007 at 07:26 PM
Man you need some more kites! That kite bag took up the whole page!
barnes - 7-12-2007 at 08:05 PM
I'm going to take a shot at making a NPW. Probably going to be a nice big light wind tank. I'm sitting around looking outside at 5mph winds far to
often. I assume they aren't too tough. The sewing instructions around the web are vague, but I think I can fill in the blanks with common sense and
luck.
I want to attempt sewing Foils eventually, but a NPW is a good start for kite sewing.
action jackson - 7-12-2007 at 11:18 PM
Brads right, once dailed in u can even make a turkey sandwich at the same time as flying a 15m in 8 mph winds. Been there, done that.........aj
bbrex - 9-12-2007 at 10:42 AM
Hey AJ I haven't tried that yet, will have to try it at next DBBB
