 Pages:  1

leebrianh - 4-12-2007 at 06:00 PM

New Jersey Buggy Club is gathering again!!!

When: Dec 8th or/and 9th
Where: Wildwood Beach, NJ
Who: Anybody

We haven't decided the exact time and location yet. Still have our eyes on weather. Low tide is around 1 pm and temp close to 50F. Looks actually good! Waiting on the most important factor, wind.

Anybody interested in, drop me an email and I will keep you guys updated.

Brian, leebrianh at gmail dot com

joecat - 4-12-2007 at 07:34 PM

Sounds great to me... I will see if I can make the 14 minute trip to the location......................Ha ha..........

1oldkid - 4-12-2007 at 09:35 PM

Sounds like fun...maybe the winds from the west coast will have straightened out by the time they get to you! ...of course at the rate they're leaving OR and WA, they could be there tomorrow afternoon!.. haha

joecat - 5-12-2007 at 07:18 AM

Hey Brian,

If you guys do get here this weekend,,, I think we should meet at 2nd street in North Wildwood.. As I said no matter what the wind direction,,, its a good spot.... and low tide is ideal..........

leebrianh - 5-12-2007 at 07:36 AM

You mean 2nd Ave?

Google Map

joecat - 5-12-2007 at 09:00 AM

yes 2nd AVE......... The map is right.

leebrianh - 5-12-2007 at 09:08 AM

Ok, I will be there on Saturday at around 11am. Hope to see new faces there. Any questions, just email me or U2U me. - Brian

barnes - 6-12-2007 at 03:11 PM

I may be able to make it on Saturday. I'm going to attempt to get off of work...but it might be tough...its about time my boss covered a weekend shift though.

Keep me updated on it!

lunchbox - 6-12-2007 at 04:09 PM

Can you guys post some video of your runs on Saturday? That way I could keep myself occupied as opposed to staring out the window and wondering how much fun I'd be having if it wasn't raining.

joecat - 6-12-2007 at 05:31 PM

Hey, Whatever video we get we will try to post,,, we should have alot of still photos coming in.... Hopefully the wind will be kicking in this weekend,,, it has been pretty consistant lately...

barnes - 6-12-2007 at 07:15 PM

I'll be down, but packing up a little bit early to get home for work.

barnes - 7-12-2007 at 01:02 PM

Any update considering the rain forcast? Should stop around noon, but just wanted to check. Winds look in 13mph WNW.

leebrianh - 7-12-2007 at 01:16 PM

I saw the same thing in the forecast. Don @ kiteplace and I are commited. Unless we have unexpected snow storm, I will be there at around 11 am. NW wind is second best wind we can get and I don't want to miss it. - Brian

barnes - 7-12-2007 at 02:13 PM

I've been dying for some good kiting, so I'll be there, rain or shine. I hope the rain will clear out by around 11.

Look forward to meeting you all tomorrow!

joecat - 7-12-2007 at 06:19 PM

I guess I will be still making that loooooonnnnggggg 15 minute ride to the location............ See ya there..........

You love rubbing that in huh.

Well as a matter a fact, I enjoy my 2 hour drive...my gas tank doesn't however.

action jackson - 7-12-2007 at 08:25 PM

Wish i was joining yall but Slp is going to be 82 degrees and wind pumping 15-25 onshore tomarrow here so i will take a rain check........aj

barnes - 8-12-2007 at 05:52 AM

I'll see everyone in a few hours. Hope the rain clears out for us!

NOW THATS rubbing it IN!

barnes - 8-12-2007 at 06:07 PM

Outside of kitesurfing, this is the first time I got to fly with other kiters. Just realized that now. First time in a buggy turned out to be awesome. Wish there was more wind for us, but the weather was much better then the forecast.

Wow! 11mph easterly predicted for tomorrow, but rainy... I'm tempted, but I'd have to leave by 1...

joecat - 9-12-2007 at 08:12 AM

Well for the report of Saturday..... The forcast, as Barnes said, was not looking too good,, predicted rain, cold etc. The only part of the weather report that was correct was the wind,,,, there wasn't much of that. However there were about seven of us with pleanty of kites and buggys and at least one landboard. We didn't get the chance to move around alot,, but there were moments of wind where the guys did get a short run. All in all it was a good day,,, it was nice as far as temp went, the sun was shinning and we got the chance to hang out together,,, it was well worth the meeting... I had a really good time,,, of course if the wind was there it would have been the perfect day but it was still good. Now some of the guys that weren't familiar with the location know where it is now and can get there when they want. We did get alot of static flying in which was fun. Today Sunday it doesn't look much better as far as wind yet,, its about 10am. We have to pick another weekend that is giving us a good report and do it again....

barnes - 9-12-2007 at 09:34 AM

Name the date, and I'll be there!

leebrianh - 9-12-2007 at 05:13 PM

That was fun. Wind or no wind, always fun to hang out with fellow buggiers. I will be looking for unusual warm weekends in Jan. - Brian

joecat - 12-12-2007 at 09:48 AM

Today, Wedesday December 12th, Went outside to leave for work,,,, and it was Sunny,,,,,,,,,Warm,,,,,,,,, and Windy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and seemed to be an offshore wind,,,,,, next to the best wind...........only thing needed now is low tide.... but yes I am working....... so lucky ............. isn't so lucky today.... but you never know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

crosshatch - 13-12-2007 at 05:37 PM

Well I hope you found a way to get in a run or two on Wednesday, Joe... you lucky b...each-based buggier :)

I'd much rather imagine Wildwood Beach being buggied than being buggy-barren.

Since you live so close to the sacred soil, I think you should open up a traction kite store called "Lucky Joe's Aerodyne Emporium"... Wait, no... "Lucky Joe's Kite Korral"... no..."Lucky Joe's Foil Farm".....?
Hrmm....still no...
"Lucky Joe's World of Wind".......

I know... How 'bout just "Lucky Joe's" ?

Never mind me... Been shoveling snow and ice for hours and am now both dehydrated and delirious.

:spin: :singing::alien:

barnes - 13-12-2007 at 06:35 PM

We all hate you Joe! :saint:

...sigh. At least someones having fun! :spin:

joecat - 13-12-2007 at 08:07 PM

Well I did take off from work tomorrow, Friday, supposed to be in mid 40s and 15 to 20mph winds looking like WNW and NW. The tide is not cooperating but what the hell... I think I may check on the delaware bay side,,, CApe May Point and Cape May area,,, only 10 minutes from where we were last week... I figure if the beach side is going to be an offshore wind,,, the bay side will be an onshore wind right? The delaware bay is pretty big so the wind coming across there should be clean I would think. I will let you guys know if we have another area to buggy. You never know "lucky Joes" sounds pretty good. Another 1 and half years I retire from the P.D. and maybe open up a shop........

joecat - 13-12-2007 at 08:08 PM

Oh yea,,,, I have the helmet cam now so I will be using it tomorrow..... It looks pretty cool.............

DenisLaMenace - 13-12-2007 at 08:41 PM

so post your videos soon, we want to see

crosshatch - 14-12-2007 at 07:44 AM

Can't wait to see the new helmet-cam footage!
Good luck on the bay side today.
:spin:

joecat - 14-12-2007 at 06:23 PM

I just spent 10 mins typing a review and for some reason lost the post............ Cliffnotes,,,, picture was really good,,,,, mounting was good and easy... I had trouble saving the film to my computer but I am working on it. The picture was clear,, color was good and stable. well worth the money... It was an Oregon Scientific ATC 2000 and it came with the 2 GB SD card. Got it on ebay, came to $138.00 with shipping... I will post the film as soon as I figure it out............Over all I was impressed... but let me make sure it was me not being able to save the film to the PC and not the unit itself....

joecat - 14-12-2007 at 09:54 PM

I found the one video on my PC and it looks good. Problem is I tried to post it on an on-line album with Google Picaso and it tells me that the file is too big,, the video is about 9 mins long. I have to figure it out,, any suggestions on how to post it.. As far as buggy action its not the best because the wind was not that good,,, but you get a good look at our beach and a real good view of how the camera works which is good in my opinion.........

lunchbox - 15-12-2007 at 10:14 AM

Hey Joecat,

Yeah, real interested on seeing that video and the type of quality that the camera produces...If it's good, I told my wife that's what I want from Santa Claus.

I think I read that the camera produces an .avi file. In order to shrink it's size, you can convert it to a .wmv format which should shrink the size comsiderably. There's all sorts of free converters available. Just go to www.download.com.

After the files converted, you should be able to upload it to youtube and then post the link here.

HTH.

joecat - 15-12-2007 at 02:38 PM

Hey I will try that..... I did try to download to youtube and of course it said the file was too large... I will try the converter idea....... Still working on it.

joecat - 15-12-2007 at 05:27 PM

Ok Ok OK! after hours of messing with the computer,,, now I finally know how to do it... Well anyway here is the link,, I think. This cut up to fit and converted from that whatever it was to WMV.. It still looks good but I think the original looked alittle better so if you like this you will like the camera... let me know if it works. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSR6isvaKVQ

lunchbox - 15-12-2007 at 09:27 PM

Hey Joecat,,,,quality looks pretty good considering the slight loss going from avi to wmv. Fade to black at 2:21???

joecat - 16-12-2007 at 08:47 AM

also my first attempt at editing a video.... it will be better next time... I will actually capture video of me moving>>>>>>>>>>>>.

crosshatch - 16-12-2007 at 09:01 AM

Looks pretty nice, Joe. Looks like I add that cam to my wishlist :)
Too bad I don't have it already... Could've attached it to the snow-shovel today and tested the cam for anti-jitter&shake.

:alien:

Lookin' forward to your next edit, L J.

joecat - 20-12-2007 at 07:54 PM

The second edition. Much better than first but still needs improvement.

crosshatch - 21-12-2007 at 08:01 PM

Nice job, Joe!
What program ya usin' to edit?

I'm heading to your beach tomorrow morning... Should get there somewhere between 9 am and 10am depending on traffic. (saw something 'bout a coastal flood warning...but says warning's over by 9am-ish)... I'll bring my swimmies :) )

If any buggiers'll be at Wildwood tomorrow, I'll see ya'll then! :)

;)

joecat - 21-12-2007 at 08:24 PM

Hey Luke,

I used Windows movie maker. I am going to try and make it down there also tomorrow. Low tide is sheduled for around 1pm so by around 11:30am it will be good at the 2nd street beach... I will call you on your cell or just fine you.

Depends on the traffic. Are you expecting crappy traffic? Get me in on the phone call chain, I have the 5m Ace I want to fly!

You guys got u2u's with my number.

crosshatch - 22-12-2007 at 03:27 PM

Well... before my moronic accident with a swiss army knife (wasn't paying attention while cutting a ziptie & cut my finger... stupid stupid mistake...), I actually started getting some improvement in my upwind-ability. Starting to get a better knack for tacking and catching the edge of the window....(I love my Rage 3.5). I can just sense the walks-of-shame getting fewer and fewer :)

Next time will check out 2nd Ave first. Now where's that newest video, Joe?
:)

Was good to meet Barnes. Hey Brian, Barnes and I agree... your kite-quiver is legendary. :tumble:

Looking forward to getting back to Wildwood real soon... (leaving pocket-knife at home next time....:) )

2nd Ave was great. Dryer sand. The wind direction wasn't great, but it was a good time.

Thanks to Joe for letting me ride in his buggy!

Can't wait to really get out and fly with you Luke!

Next time I'll have some vehicle I can use, so I can stop mooching all the time!

joecat - 23-12-2007 at 12:04 AM

Check this one out... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGZNqxrlo2k

crosshatch - 23-12-2007 at 08:05 AM

Nicely done, Joe!
That was with the cam attached to a pole behind the buggy, correct? Shake and jitter wasn't too bad at all.

barnes - 23-12-2007 at 08:51 AM

Some pictures I took:

Lots more on my flickr account!

I have a video uploading to YouTube too, I'll post that when it uploads.

lunchbox - 23-12-2007 at 10:19 AM

Ditto...nice video joecat!

Curious, How did you get the tubing attached to the rear axle not to swivel?

joecat - 23-12-2007 at 11:48 AM

hey Lunchbox,,, I will have to send you some photos of the hookup.. I was racking my brain trying to figure out how to rig it. I was in the hardware store "Lowes" in the plumbing section and saw a compression cuplink... I took the rear wheel off and slide it right onto the axel. It was one with a fitting for a pipe coming out of it. The compression thing you can tighten up real good and it wont move,,, you can loosen it real easy to change the angle up or down. I attached some pvc pipe onto that, I think 3/4 inch about four feet long and at top hooked up a "T" fitting to which I mount my Oregaon Scientific cam on..... I will have to upload some photos as soon as I get the time,,, if its not clear for you. Pretty freaking ingenous if I dont say so myself...............

joecat - 23-12-2007 at 11:51 AM

hey Lunchbox,,, i just looked at Barnes Flickr account... check the photos,,, he has several of me there on that first page,,, you can see the camera rig..... with the stuff I mentioned.

lunchbox - 23-12-2007 at 08:39 PM

Quote:

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I saw the pic...I was thinking about doing the same thing and I didn't even think about a PVC solution...Nice, simple and inexpensive!

Keep the videos coming...I've hinted to my wife about the ATC2K so I'm hoping she got it and not another tie ;)

..if I get it I'm going to try to get some of me at El Mirage (if they ever open it...) and then kitesurfing...little nervous, though...I'm afraid to see how bad I really am

leebrianh - 24-12-2007 at 07:48 AM

Joecat,

Awesome videos! I hope to be in your moives(?) next time :)

-Brian

crosshatch - 25-12-2007 at 05:54 PM

Going to Wildwood this Saturday (29th), provided the chance of precip doesn't climb any higher.
Forecasted windspeed looks decent at the moment.

Will post forecast update later in week. Hope it stays nice. Anyone else think they might be there this Saturday?

Joe, see what you can do about keeping the rain away, would ya? :)

leebrianh - 26-12-2007 at 07:28 AM

oh, man! I am on-call (job) this weekend.... Hope you enjoy your ride. It's been a while and we should ride together soon. - Brian

joecat - 27-12-2007 at 03:07 PM

hey Brian,, they just "CALLED" and said not to worry about it, just go and have fun...........Hey Cross I was thinking the same thing,,,, i should be able to make it this Saturday........ let me know what the deal is...... where you will be going... i will bring band aids.............-Joe.

Hardy har :)

My brother's gonna ride down with me this time. Probably get there between 9 and 10am. Gonna start out at the spot you and Barnes were at last time, Joe, 2nd Ave.
Rain% forecast back up to 40% again... I think it's 'sposed to mellow out after 9 or 10ish though. I'm still a go unless it changes to a washout.

Lookin' forward to hangin' w/ ya guys again.
Brian, no worries, Duder. Lots of winter left. Speakin' of... any thoughts for a Wildwood Winter Bash?... before it gets frostbitey?

-crossy

leebrianh - 27-12-2007 at 08:01 PM

You guys are killing me:mad: Now I think of it, I have a cell phone and wireless card and a laptop...... possibly work in my car at the beach....... Urr~ - Brian

joecat - 27-12-2007 at 08:26 PM

yes you could work from your car if need be..... hey Cross,,, I am not sure if the tide will be best at that time at 2nd steet but its worth just meeting there and checking it out..... So come in North Wildwood exit off parkway,,, exit 6.... this way if its no good there we can move south toward wildwood or wildwood crest... but it may be good at 2nd ave... especially I think so far the wind is set to shift to NW alittle after 10am or so,, not sure but it will work,,,,

We got 4 people and a forecast of rain. I think we can get it done while we wait it out! :tumble:

I'm not sure if I'm going to make the haul if the weather isn't looking too hot.

Hrmmm.... Latest forecast's tellin' me 40% chance rain, now pushed to ending closer to 1pm(ish)...:puzzled:

A significant haul for me as well...and I'd rather go if more of us can be there.

How would next Saturday look for you guys?

leebrianh - 28-12-2007 at 07:34 AM

Jan 5th, 2008 then? WOW, 2008 already, uh? Happy New Year!!! - Brian

crosshatch - 28-12-2007 at 08:24 AM

Yeah... Next Saturday then.
Ordered that ATC-2000 camera too, so it should be in by then.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for better weather next wkend.

And Happy New Year Everybody!!! :)

joecat - 29-12-2007 at 09:46 PM

I will be florida from the 3rd to the 7th,,, but you guys have a good time,,,, Lucky Joe is not so Lucky this time Huh? Let me know how it goes....

joecat - 1-1-2008 at 06:34 PM

Ok,,, its Tuesday January 1st 2008.. last night checked the weather report for Wildwood. Its said something like 15mph winds out of the West,,, not real good. So figured I wouldn;t bother getting up early... Low tide was 9am. Woke up at 7:30am checked report again, because you know how the reports changed from minute to minute.... And low and behold it said,,, SE winds 15 to 20 mph. Needless to say I was out the door and on the beach by 8:30am. The rest is history!!!!!!!! Went from 23rd ave to 3rd in minutes flat,,,, broke my personal record of 30mph with 36 mph...... it was awsome,,,,of course I have video footage coming in the next few minutes... I was able to ride for about 1 1/2 hrs could have spent several more hours but in the interest of domestic tranquil I had to go,,, the 2nd street area was great as the winds shifted to mostly SSE. I will have more video of the entire venture at a later date but until then enjoy the best ride of the day...

joecat - 1-1-2008 at 06:41 PM

Ok here is the link.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNgiiUQTHSI

crosshatch - 1-1-2008 at 06:43 PM

That is awesome dude!
Can't wait to see your new footage.

If rain stays away and the wind is right, I'll be looking to break my own record of 24.5mph this coming Saturday.

I think your awesome conditions happened today because the wind gods look very favorably on any buggier who takes it upon himself to, willingly, wake up at 7:30am on New Year's Day :)

Way to go Lucky Joe! (hey that rhymed) :tumble:

*Edit: You were haulin'! What was the black stuff flyin' from right to left in front of the lens? Sand/debris or some kind of distortion on the cam? I received mine btw (same model)... Even using the heavier rubber mounting pads I get a lot of shake, wobble and that wavy effect (tested on my mountain bike)...Other than that, can't complain too much for the price.

joecat - 2-1-2008 at 07:06 AM

Hey Luke,,, the black stuff was sand debris flying up..... I think it looks kind of cool...... good luck with the camera,,,, I guess you have to fool with it to see where the best picture comes from,,,, I guess we could get some of the shakes out depending on where we mount them.

I did the same thing. I was debating between buggying and kiteboarding and due to the forecast, I've decided to go kiteboarding. It turned out to be good though. About 7 kiters out there, enjoying first day wind of 2008.

Glad you had fun too, Joe. If forecast is good, I will be out there riding with Luke. We will see how lucky we are without lucky Joe

Hey Guys,, girls,,, today was a great day here in Wildwood Crest. The wind was good most of the day,,, And Brian here it is,,,, your in the production........

leebrianh - 13-1-2008 at 05:34 AM

Very nice (since I am in it :D) It was truly an awesome day. 90 degree off shore wind. Started a little gusty but later stronger and steadier.

I started with Manta 8M and was a little under-powered. Manta 10M was perfect for buggy. Later Manta 12M was good enough to pull two buggies.

Good fellow buggyers always double the fun. It was a great day! - Brian

barnes - 13-1-2008 at 10:48 AM

A few friends were planning on taking their new kites down to Wildwood next Sunday the 20th. Extended forecast looks clear, 14mph winds, but a brisk 25 degree temp..not sure what the plan will be, but I'll keep you posted.

crosshatch - 13-1-2008 at 01:41 PM

Great day indeed!
First time using the harness really in the bug....(OBEs are quickly losing their glamour)... But started to get the gist of it, and wow does it take the strain off your arms!

Petra introduced me to depower... That was awesome. Never tried a bar before. Now I'll have to get a second job to get more gear :)

All you folks looked great out there yesterday! And my brother said, "It was kool to see all those kites in the air". Usually it's just him and me at small local spots.

Thanks for a great day, all!

barnes - 13-1-2008 at 07:22 PM

Petra was there? Man I missed out on a fun day. :( ...sigh... why did the co-worker have to get sick this weekend?!

Was rinsing my kites and hangin' them to dry this morning... Every time I do that, all I can think about is getting out there to fly and buggy again as soon as possible.
Hope I can make it there again this coming weekend...if the weather cooperates.

Hey this weekend, well Saturday anyway,,, is not looking too bad! Too cold on Sunday. Any thoughts?

leebrianh - 7-2-2008 at 09:23 AM

I might be able to make it this time. Keep in touch.

Hey Guys, Girls,,, again another good day in the end anyway. The wind started out ok until I unfolded my kite and then it died,,, sat there for awhile with no wind and then a little wind but at the end it kicked in like a son of a son,, and actually became to powerful for the 5 meter that I broke out when the wind died. Got a real good ride in as you can see from the video.

That was excellent.
And you've become quite the film splicing expert as well.

I am impressed.

How fast do ya think you went in this last vid?

joecat - 11-2-2008 at 04:47 PM

Hey Luke, I was going maybe about 25 mph not that fast........ If the wind direction was better I could have got alot more speed out of it. We got to get everybody down there one of these weekends coming up... hopefully we will get a warmer weekend.

barnes - 11-2-2008 at 05:22 PM

Spring is going to be here faster then I like to think. I'm down for a meet up coming up. Sundays work best for me, but Saturdays work if I can get enough notice to get off work.

leebrianh - 12-2-2008 at 08:02 AM

I am even up for both days (Feb 16/17) if wind is good.

joecat - 12-2-2008 at 08:11 PM

Hey Brian,,, Saturday is looking pretty cold, 30 degrees for a high, but I guess that dosen't sound too bad to you just coming from the the snow retreat............. Friday isn't looking too bad. high about 49 degrees.

barnes - 13-2-2008 at 01:13 PM

Friday is perfect. No school for me. Anyone else in?

joecat - 14-2-2008 at 12:39 PM

Hey Ryan, I am planning of taking off and hitting the 2nd street beach,,, the tide is low at about 10am... and the wind is good for that area,,, anywhere else would not be that good. Let me know if you diff coming down.. I should be there around 9am or so.

joecat - 15-2-2008 at 10:33 PM

Well,, Friday was ok.... It was good for me,, wind from about 9am to 11am,,, thats why I say good for me.... The ten minute ride to the beach was worth it for me. But anyone else coming from normal long distances, it would have been a waste. So it was good that no one else could make it. but anyway I think I may have my best video yet from the day here... let me know.

I'll be there bright and early tomorrow..untangling my Speed. (Then packing it away because 20mph winds don't sound fun with that kite.)

Can't wait. Bringing my dads GPS running thing to track speeds.

joecat - 18-2-2008 at 09:10 PM

Hey guys,,, even with the wind dying off yesterday it still was alot of fun,, good day.... looking forward to the next,, let me know... Until then here is the latest,,, from yesterdays clips..

Nice music selection :)

I had early bird special that day. Due to wind forecast (SE, perfect for buggy ride), I was so excited that I woke up before dawn. When I got to the beach, it was blowing 15 ~ 20mph, SE. I pulled out 2M and started riding until NJ Buggy Club gangs showed up. When I stopped to greet those guys, my GPS showed 9 mile trip with max over 25mph.

Then Ryan showed up and wind died..... :(

It was a great day for sure. As always, we should do that again!!!
