bugymangp - 10-3-2008 at 09:39 AM

hey gang
thought i`d chime in here.
we`re getting close to the best buggy(kite fest) the north american has to offer.
is everybody pack yet??? i still haven`t packed any gear yet. i need to take time off from working on my 30 chevy and start thinking wind power. LOL
i have a feeling alot of people are gunning for me in the NPW races this year.
see the gang in a few weeks.

bbrex - 10-3-2008 at 09:48 AM

Ya Glen

You have a big Bulls Eye on your back. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to let Susan put your buggy in my trailer. You may have to run behind your NASA wing.
Just kidding. We have installed radio activated explosive charges into all your tires. If you get too close to catching me I will really blow your tires off.

Yelp it is getting close. I am so looking forward to this year.

KYTE SLINGER - 10-3-2008 at 02:27 PM

I might have to sit this one out this year:mad:

being that the whole pre-event and nabx week ..if and BIG IF.... I'll try to get the weekend at NABX

lack of work and if it does pick up I'll need to strike while the iron is hot

Sthrasher38 - 10-3-2008 at 02:40 PM

All I am trying to do is stay alive for the next 3 weeks. I am sure that this 3 weeks will seem like a year. Hell yes I am ready to go. I have been ready since that dam Dlish89 guy talked me into it.:P And as far as packing goes This is my first year so I had to get all kinds of stuff. You know new helmet, knee elbo pads, a couple kites, goggles, Buggy tires. Trying to save money as we speak. As it stands right now I may need some animal traps so I can eat. Do those turtles I here about taste like chicken? My room reservations? I may be sleeping in a tent on the playa. I would not mind but I dont know if my woman will go for the old (I forgot to reserve the room ordeal.) I'm so broke right now I can't even afford to pay attention. So in short: (yea I'm ready)

mecdave - 10-3-2008 at 02:42 PM

Bummer David. I know what you're saying though. Last week was the slowest we've had in the 21 years I've been at this shop. Gas prices are killing us! Time to go sell some more stuff. ;)

matthewlavin - 11-3-2008 at 04:57 PM

I'm so broke I'm going to the playa 2 days before the event to kgb. (probably gene or roach). I can't afford the entrance fee. Perhaps i can scrounge for the first day! Anyone going to be in the primm area a few days before?

coreykite - 12-3-2008 at 11:17 AM

Hey Matt,
There is no entrance fee.
None of the lake beds.
Ivanpah requires a personal-use permit for vehicle access other than during the nabx time.
Even that permit is free.

We pay when we gather in a large group so we can afford a few niceties (port-o-sans, tent, insurance, etc).
It is not pay-to-play.

(A little secret - You won't be the only one skirting the registration fee)

Jean Dry Lake and Roach (east side) are ride-able but a bit rougher than Ivanpah.

Don't let your wallet determine the quality of your life.

amokaman - 12-3-2008 at 07:26 PM

Hey my subject is a line from an old 1960's song I believe. I can't believe it's my 8th SBBB/NABX. I feel the need .. the need for speed.

I've got a bigger buggy this year, instead of just the standard size PL XR I have an XR+ with a 120cm wide axle and longer side rail set on it. I even sewed up a nice little pack back with straps to mount on the back of it. Pictures of the buggy are on my blog at this post.

Sthrasher38 - 12-3-2008 at 07:30 PM

It's your 8th event and you only have 8 posts here? Welcome to the forum! It will be my first time at an event this year i'm excited.

Happy to help you out.
What length/strength line set do you want?

I'll be on the road to Elmer's on the 27th.

Map to the store location is found on my home page at www.windpowersports.com
Address is to a 28 bldg complex - I'm 1/4 mile away at the other corner of the property.
The shop will be closed from 27 March to 6 April.

I will have no product for sale on the playa at nabx.

hey thrasher
there are rules you need follow to get the buggy naked pin.
plus you still have to pay for the pin. its a sliver pin that cost me 35$ and i had to wait like 18months after buggying naked to get it. beacuse corey was out of stock when i did it.

coreykite - 14-3-2008 at 11:16 AM

Hey Sailors,
First to Crash... If you're checking into Buff Bills on the 27th, we'll be about 200 miles away.
The Pre-Event that many also attend starts at El Mirage Dry Lake, down in Cal by Victorville.
There will be folks out at Buggytown on Ivanpah.
Not everyone does everything.

Now to Thrasher...
Wanting a Buggy Naked pin is oh-so-easy.
EARNING the pin is another matter.

One must buggy naked.
One must be photographed whilst buggying naked.
One must present the photo to me to attain the privilege of purchasing a Buggy Naked pin.
The sterling silver pin, which can never be sold or traded, is $35

If one asks if this or that qualifies, by the question, it does not.
Photos are posted on the Buggy Naked web page at www.buggythang.org

And that's all I have to say about that!

i told him NEVER. this is one pin that has to be EARNED!!!!
plus. when the time comes i leave this world for the next.
the pin is coming with me. i told my family thats my wishs.

USA_Eli_A - 14-3-2008 at 02:45 PM

I'll let the cat out of the bag....when buggying for the pin, BEWARE of the devil that crashes his/her kite into yours as you try to get your photo taken. Only then, will you stand up, and present thyself for all standing around in attention to see. As you re-rig your kite, there will be photos of every part not required to earn the pin.

Crash - 14-3-2008 at 02:46 PM

Have fun Corey,I'll bang around the 3 lakes by BB ,mostly Ivanpah.I wanted to hang with you guys, just didn't know it was that far to Elmer's.I''ll be earning a pin also so stock up ,He he !......Eli ,you just earned a weggi,ya gave away the plot Man ! and you forgot to mention the little devil that runs off and hides your clothes too !.....I hope ya do your best to make it and don't have to work like ya said.

USA_Eli_A - 14-3-2008 at 03:15 PM

I wasn't going to mention the clothes hiders....i'll be der for at least 2 days....need to work off these tan lines! what if we had a team tandem enduro naked buggy race...? we could set the record for the most naked buggiers at one site at one time!

I like this idea A LOT !!!!!!! :thumbup: :thumbup::cool::cool2:

I would LOVE to get into the world book of records for something crazy like this. We would have to get decent #s though. The Dutch would turn around and take it away before we knew it. At least we would remain better at something than the Brit's :P

So far my naked claim to fame is naked bungy jumping :tumble: We have a free jump if you are naked day each winter ( In Canada :wow: ) at the Bungy Zone. :moon:

coreykite - 14-3-2008 at 06:47 PM

Jellis,
So you may have been.
I see no photo of you at the naked buggy photo site.
www.buggythang.org

Check and let me know if I missed you.
Are you sure you sent me the photo?

For record seekers, beware.
Back in the day - When WE were the young turks...
Full of bullet-proof and bounce...
January 1994, I think it was...
More than 20 nekkid buggy riders swarmed across Ivanpah.

Besides, it's not about being clothed or naked, it's because it doesn't matter.
It's about making choices for ourselves.
Do what feels good to you.
If we are consumed with what others think...
Why are playing in such an obscure sport as this?
Time to get used to the fact that even us "odd ducks" have a flock to come home to.

Buggy Naked is not a dare.
It certainly isn't about a silly pin.
It's about what all this represents.
That varies with each individual.
buggymangp has certainly found something meaningful.
Maybe, if we stop trying so hard to MAKE the magic happen...
We can learn to LET the magic happen.

Let's buggy the magic wind.

Hey Sue,My U2U and smiles ect. aren't working right for some reason.I just left Tom's and we were talking about ya ,good things ofcourse....I'd like a idea how much trouble it would be to have you make a NPW with one or two colors ,I'd like to airbrush my avitar in the middle .What do you have made already that your selling at NABX.I'm not fussy but was thinkin along the lines of black and lime green .Tom's was multi colored stripes with a checker pattern in the middle.can you make a solid black with lime flames along the edge somewhere.? Don't know if ya want to do before NABX and I'm not in a hurry to bug you this close to the event.I'm cool with wanting one and can grab one from what ya bring to Ivanpah. Give me an email or yell if your with what works for you ,Just Make sure you hit the pre event and have a blast before NABX.I'm looking forward to my ride on the NPW train again so don't break no bones Lady ! We'll hang and I'm sure you'll hook me up and make me smile like I did today,I just checked out my new Phantom 15 and it's wider than my house. All I need is a couple of feet in width and I won't need a new parachute for the skydiving club this summer,"It's Huge" Help my buddy Rick get one too ,It's his first time at Nabx,he's into boards, buggy, landsailing and is bringing a skywing, you two will hit it off.he's got all the toys and when he sees your kites ,he'll be hooked.

KitePwr - 14-3-2008 at 09:28 PM

Hey folks,

There will be no NABX for me this year :( since the NABX organizers and the WSKC organizers *obviously* did not coordinate their schedules. I need to fly to France on the 3rd -- for some reason my teammates think I need to be there with them to compete. Oh well, better to have to choose between 2 great things to do than nothing at all.

I will, however, be at Elmers for the pre-event (you all can call it a pre-event, I'll call it the-event). I should be there on the 27th -- heading back home on the 1st.

Cya at Elmers,
Darrin

Glenn you really summed it up for me! As pin holder #4 i feel right honored to be amongst you all, in all my glory, riding skinny tires, using dead man handles(anyone remember those?)and fully tanned!

Corey, you truly deserve the title Mayor of Buggy Town, Lama of the Wind, Top BSer Supreme, and Head Muckity Muck of Kite Infamy!

Thank you so much for creating, albeit accidently something that illustrates just how nuts we truly are, and to what lengths we will go to impress upon each other the absurdity of our predilection!

Additionally though he may not read here any more, with much thanks and honor, my gratitude to Scott Dyer for his contribution. None of you want to know who modeled for the pin, i assure you, so let that mystery lie!

We are all truly blessed to be a small part of this group, and while we might not be as fast or might not jump as high, no one can ever say we don't have more FUN doing what we do!

Tip O' the hat to you, Your Honor!

Scudley,
Check the Buggy Naked pages.
Note that some do wear shoes and a helmet, some don't.
I guess it depends on what you want (or need) to protect.
We typically do this activity in the early morning (if there's wind)
Or the afternoon (if there's wind).
Direct over-head sunlight, on parts of your anatomy that seldom if ever see the sun, might have a brightening effect on said parts.
Apply sunscreen regularly and vigorously.
