You know you are addicted when ...

Bladerunner - 12-3-2008 at 05:36 PM

You start to book ALL your vacations around kiting and kiting events. EVEN Christmas !

You quit your job ( Ripsession ) because they won't give you time off for important kiting get togethers !

You are totally broke and broken ( Sthrasher ) and it won't stop you from going to NABX.

You fly a windsock ( me ) from the top of your highrise building.

You have been forced to have the , "I've become wind dependent " discussion with Family and Friends.

Todays true story:
A new fellow attends todays meeting. Within 5 minutes he is offered lessons. The others enter, The new guy says we were just talking about kite boarding. Have you ever heard of it ?
EVERYONE else in the meeting Roars with laughter and say, So you've met Ken

Etc. Etc. :singing:

DenisLaMenace - 12-3-2008 at 05:42 PM

you know you're addicted when

you have 2 kites the same brand the same size (ken) :frog:

can somebody buy his FS speed 1.5 7m

NPWfever - 12-3-2008 at 05:54 PM

You're 16 and have spent $1000 on it
You're 16 and own 7 kites
You stop doing homework because the wind is good
Your teachers say "Was the wind good yesterday?" when ur missing work
You pull up google earth to find a kiting spot when you go somewhere
You are 1 post away from 500!!! WOOOO!!!

Sthrasher38 - 12-3-2008 at 06:07 PM

Excellent Snowbird! Very funny.

I know I must be addicted when:
My wife calls me at work saying: it's windy,Live to fly!
My Boss says: Did you hurt yourself kiting again?
My co workers call me when I am not at work saying :Where are you flying at?
I sit here and read these posts LMAO. As someone said: this forum is priceless!:saint:

WELDNGOD - 12-3-2008 at 06:50 PM

You know your hooked when you keep a kite behind the seat in your truck.(just in case the wind blows)

Sthrasher38 - 12-3-2008 at 07:04 PM

Thats a given. My kites are like american express. I don't leave home without it. It's funny because dlish today had so many kites in his truck He looked at me and said awww man I have to get my wife form work where is she gonna ride? You know the kites in the back of the truck never did cross his mind. You didn't make her ride in back did ya?

DAKITEZ - 12-3-2008 at 07:17 PM

Its not that bad yet ... I just piled them on the kids in the back seat. But if the kites wouldn't of fit back there someone would of been riding in the back sitting in the buggy

Sthrasher38 - 12-3-2008 at 07:20 PM

:lol::lol:

gross213 - 12-3-2008 at 10:18 PM

I know i am addicted when...
I have already planned christmas next year at the beach.
When the family wants to plan a reunion, and I say I will only come if its at the beach

:flaming:

barnes - 13-3-2008 at 03:41 AM

You know your addicted when your making 2 hour commutes to the best flying spot you can find, every weekend.

Taper123 - 13-3-2008 at 04:20 AM

I'm not a kite addict... they go to meetings.

I just keep going to the beach/field/parking lot/etc and fly when I can. When i can't fly, I find myself sewing kites. If nothing else... I have a colorful collection of kites.

acampbell - 13-3-2008 at 10:02 AM

...when the first things you look at every morning are tide tables and the local NOAA coastal forecast.

(the wife got me tide clock for christmas so that step is easier)

coreykite - 13-3-2008 at 11:03 AM

Hey Sailors,
You know you're a desert buggy addict when you make a sudden stop at a red light and the car in front of you is immediately covered in playa dust. - Lack-o-Slack Dooley

You know you're addicted when you sit on your buggy for hours, waiting for the wind to come up, and you have hundreds of dollars of light-wind stunters in your car.

You know you're addicted when you have a "Closed For Wind" sign on your front door.

You know you're addicted when your girlfriend/wife/SO says it's either/or and you realize how much you're going to miss that girl.

Safen Up! Buggy On!

"Often wrong... Never in doubt"

the coreylama

Sthrasher38 - 13-3-2008 at 01:19 PM

Closed for wind sign. I like that!

I'm amazed that the Speed 1.5 hasn't moved as well ? Just the one PKF member showed interest ? All I have received other than that is 2 obvious scammers !

Looks like I may have to Ebay it :ticking:

Our local shop's sign reads : Open 10a.m. to 20knots :cool2:

beachrights - 13-3-2008 at 03:40 PM

You change your screen saver to a new kite picture each week!

You have "power kite" saved as a daily search in EBAY!
You plan your next car purchase around your buggies dimensions!
Or you check this site every morning before work to see if there are any new posts!!

BeamerBob - 14-3-2008 at 08:27 AM

You know you're addicted when a "system maintenance" message puts you in withdrawals. I'm catching my breath now. :ticking:

ripsessionkites - 15-3-2008 at 04:15 AM

lol ... thats too funny.

I'm addicted to wind when:

After working a Graveyard Shift from 24:00 to 8:00am. your kite buddies call you first thing in the morning and ask where we going to fly today. kite from 9am to 4pm, go home sleep 4hrs back to work. repeat the process for the next day.
~kiting is better than sleeping~

Sthrasher38 - 18-3-2008 at 03:52 PM

When you work everyday including weekends and part of Easter all through March to be able to go to Nabx. on April 2nd!! Not complaining a bit. It's going to be worth it.:borg:

With all the nor'easters, tropical depressions, cold fronts, east wind off the ocean(super clean! and rock steady!). It will take a miracle(or a good hit on megamillions!;-))

dylanj423 - 19-3-2008 at 06:15 AM

Here are the 20 questions of being an alcoholic, slightly modified...

Do you lose time from work due to kiting?
Is kiting making your home life unhappy?
Do you kite because you are shy with other people?
Is kiting affecting your reputation?
Have you ever felt remorse after kiting?
Have you got into financial difficulties as a result of kiting?
Do you turn to lower companions and an inferior environment when kiting?
Does your kiting make you careless of your family's welfare?
Has your ambition decreased since kiting?
Do you crave a kite at a definite time daily?
Do you want a kite the next morning?
Does kiting cause you to have difficulty sleeping?
Has your efficiency decreased since kiting?
Is kiting jeopardising your job or business?
Do you kite to escape from worries or trouble?
Do you kite alone?
Have you ever had a complete loss of reason (originally read memory) as a result of kiting?
Has your physician ever treated you for kiting?
Do you kite to build up your self-confidence?
Have you ever been to a hospital on account of kiting?

If you answered yes to two or more questions, you are an addict. You should seek help, or a wide open area with loads of clean wind. I'll hope to see you there!

Rye - 19-3-2008 at 01:50 PM

You know you're addicted when you just ordered not one, but two new Access XCs when you have 8 other kites on the shelf. They should arrive tomorrow :P

Sthrasher38 - 19-3-2008 at 03:00 PM

Why 2? And what other 8 do you have?

WELDNGOD - 19-3-2008 at 03:12 PM

:wow: What if you only said no to three of them?

Rye - 19-3-2008 at 03:43 PM

Ah, two because the 10M is mine and the 8M is my wife's. Aside from that we have most of the Rage line and a few Montana's. Here in Yellowknife the wind is lighter then where we used to live on the coast, so we need bigger kites to try snowkiting on snowboards.

WELDNGOD - 19-3-2008 at 06:25 PM

I think I need an intervention

nhlrule56 - 20-3-2008 at 04:53 PM

...so is there a three step program to this addiction?

Let's see:

1. I always have my eBay firefox plug in running to see all the watches going on throughout the day.
2. I keep a spreadsheet denoting what sold and when. I track sales prices of items I am looking for to see average sales prices. Sorry, I sit on a computer all day, every day for work.
3. I have been walking on plywood floors in my house for the last year because I would rather buy kites than carpet.
4. I justify most of my new kite purchases as things the family can use and share. Kids are growing up fast, lets make it fun.
5. I check the PKF forum at least 3 times a day.

...okay, I have a problem. On the plus side he wife has pretty much approved the acquisition of a 5m depower for the younger kids to use (and nice high wind kite for dad). I hope my wife does not see this thread...

Sthrasher38 - 20-3-2008 at 05:03 PM

Oh the wife's.

nhlrule56 - 20-3-2008 at 07:06 PM

So, how many other addicts have a tidal chart in their wallet? It really helps plan sick days.

WELDNGOD - 25-3-2008 at 07:45 PM

on the com desktop:wow: The other day I heard that sissy song" ride like the wind" by C. Cross, and I thought of cruizin' in the buggy. Yeah .. I'm screwed for life. Might as well fly a kite!;-)

nhlrule56 - 25-3-2008 at 09:11 PM

The other night I was playing on eBay running bids up on a kite and some lines. I thought I was doing a good job of figuring average sale prices on items and thought I was clearly safe. Well, Sunday night not only did I win the bar/lines, I won the kite. Boy was my wife upset.

Well I got the tracking info for the new addition in the email today and it should be here on the 31st. I wonder how warm it will keep me while I am sleeping on the couch? I won't be running up any bids on eBay any time soon. Lesson learned...

Not bad mistake though, timing stunk. The win was a new 2008 5m Sabre2 and the 54cm bar/line set. Can't wait to get my youngest out on that one.

Sthrasher38 - 26-3-2008 at 10:57 AM

Oh man, Did I ever have that experience with my woman and e-bay! I almost got myself into trouble just like that. I can't bid either witout her knowing about it first. It's nice to win ,but yea the timing thing sux. (everyone) That is a prime example of being addicted! I hope you don't catch a cold.

Rye - 26-3-2008 at 05:19 PM

New kites just arrived :) My wife put them on her card... hahahaha. What a catch!

WELDNGOD - 26-3-2008 at 05:45 PM

come into my web said the spider to the fly.;)

feral - 31-3-2008 at 03:05 PM

I'm finding myself looking for areas to kite and also watching the trees to guage the wind speed without even meaning to. Most of my mates are getting worried now! :spin:

WELDNGOD - 31-3-2008 at 05:59 PM

Yeah, your hooked on SKYCRACK!:frog: CUT UP YOUR CREDIT CARD NOW!

strictlycarved - 31-3-2008 at 07:35 PM

However my dad's card comes in very handy!

Bladerunner - 1-4-2008 at 08:25 AM

For the umpteenth time you are up at a vantage point. See some open space and ......... Damn it's another GRAVEYARD !!!

Happened again this weekend :singing:

nhlrule56 - 1-4-2008 at 07:54 PM

You know, if they are nothing but standard headstones you would cruise right over them. Tombstones would be hard to dodge...I doubt marble gives much when you hit it. It would definably be a quiet place to ride.

Okay, I really am not a jerk....but it does make you think if the wind is nice.

WELDNGOD - 2-4-2008 at 06:06 AM

Coffin buggy? Casket kiting? Buggy mortis?

dylanj423 - 4-4-2008 at 02:18 PM

When you buy a new car to be able to get to the coast/ carry all your gear. Definitely my most expensive kiting purchase!

feral - 5-4-2008 at 04:19 AM

On a similar note when you eventually start to learn to drive so that you can get out!

tdmc96 - 26-5-2008 at 07:24 PM

:tumble:You know your addicted when you come home from a great day off buggying and your mouse curser is constantly :tumble:moving in a figure eight and doing loops.

biglou13 - 26-5-2008 at 10:28 PM

.....when i found myself making and wearing string bracelets with overhand, figure 8 and larkshead in 80# and 200# test and i hate things on my wrists

the code for our metting is "friends of domina j"

pyro22487 - 27-5-2008 at 05:34 PM

i had to plan my stereo install on my car around my kite pack and stuff for static flying. I couldnt build the speacker boxes to specs. but i can still get all my kite gear in my car.

PHREERIDER - 27-5-2008 at 07:39 PM

addicted, hmm ....

I live by the tides, the moon and the wind.

i am awake when the moon is new, the tides are low and the wind is up.

The last new moon i went out a dozen times on the atb after mid night for two or three hours at a crack as the low tide and wind coincide. small lights on the rig and i wear a beacon. i have ridden on the land at 3am worked a full day then on the water at 6pm then back on the land at 4am, then the madness just starts over. the longest run like this 7 days some water run didnot have enough wind so i got a triple shot on the land.
(during the summer season the beach prohibits sand sailing 10am to 6pm)

the solitude
the epic endless 5 mile reaches
beautiful stars and moon
head full of music
sweet power of nature

this not addiction
this is the priceless, timeless bliss of the FREERIDE

the skills and kites are tools to freedom.

it truly frees me from the madness of the world

addiction no

more like meditation therapy
peace

Why do you specify "new moon"? With lights and beacon, you could ride anytime I guess. Is the tide better and lower enough to make it worth it in the total darkness of a new moon? Or is that just how the moon was the last time you did this?

PHREERIDER - 28-5-2008 at 04:43 AM

the last series of rides "the last new moon", a little light for the terrain makes it easier. the water line and the tree /dune line. the height of the low tide is never a consideration. running without moonlight, could i do it? yes. should i do it? no . you have difficulty seeing lesser objects (tree stumps, limbs, people, turtles)all which seem to be rare.

I agree that moonlight would make it much easier and safer which is why I asked about you riding with a new moon. More dangerous and maybe not as much of an experience, since you couldn't really see your surroundings. Yeah, you're riding, but you wouldn't have the same sense of speed or surroundings in total darkness.

PHREERIDER - 28-5-2008 at 05:21 AM

with music i cannot hear any wind noise, once i 'm on a cruising line the perception of movement really falls away. the transitions feel almost magical barely even feel you have changed direction. the eye/brain/ear is really detuned from daytime riding. being on the beach with high frequency has somewhat created a wider safety margin. personally i am quite at home in the dark, rig, launch, landing and certainly riding.
the "new moon" meaning the "start" of the last lunar phase. thought that needed clarification

Sthrasher38 - 28-5-2008 at 07:53 AM

you know your hooked when... You are still buying gear and know you can't fly for at least a mo or so. And you still go kiting just to watch you friends and kids fly. That was a hard one.

Bladerunner - 28-5-2008 at 08:36 AM

You are a Canada Customs agent and while in the process of trying to have a fellow arrested for DWI YOU CAN'T STOP YOURSELF from talking kiting with him . :duh:
You are playing the odds because you also kite at Sunset beach so think this should be an easy arrest and YOU CAN'T STOP YOURSELF FROM TALKING KITING with him :duh: :duh:

This just happened to ME :wow: at the Canada boarder :flaming:

I'm on my way home from Sunset and I find I'm being tested for drunk driving by a " fellow kiter " who wants to talk kites with me while he is betraying me :puzzled: Telling me everything I need to know to find out who he is and inform the folks at the beach about my welcome home ! He even told me we can meet up again at SOBB :megan:

Fortunately you blow a 0.00 when you only drink Red Bull

I'm hoping he gets a good lesson in Kite Karma ! :bisou:

You go to north america for two months and leave your driver's license and a few of your kites behind in Hong Kong...

Guess which I miss more?

_____ - 14-7-2008 at 01:14 PM

You dont need a license to drive but you do need a kite to fly a kite ;)

ikemiester - 16-7-2008 at 08:25 PM

BeamerBob - 17-7-2008 at 04:27 AM

Ike, we're gonna have to beef up the middle of your quiver a little! That's a big gap from a 1.8 to a 12 even if it is a depower.

EDIT: didn't notice the 5m in the middle there. Your quiver is just fine.

Sthrasher38 - 19-7-2008 at 09:15 AM

Bob how do you like your buggy?

BeamerBob - 20-7-2008 at 06:22 PM

It's a little small for me. I'm 6'4 and about 235 with a 38" waist. I completely fill up the seat. I don't think there will be room for my harness in there. Maybe. I think I might put it on the market tomorrow. It is a fantastic buggy and looks great, but it just isn't big enough for me. It will be fantastic for someone out there.

pyro22487 - 25-7-2008 at 05:10 PM
