Sod farm fading away!

Sthrasher38 - 15-4-2008 at 07:39 AM

Well I guess it's that time of year. They are ripping up the sod at our favorite flying field! It is getting really small and the grass is thick. I don't think we will have it much longer. We were there yesterday (dlish & I ). Doug showed up later. Good to see him again. Anyway the wind was like alway's The wind meter was showing 9-12mph. Then gusts to 30-35 back to 16 Bla-bla- bla. Blowing NE then E Then switching up again. Flying area cut to a third. Just so in conststiant! OB is about a 2hr drive for me but it looks like that will be our new spot because after Nabx nothing compares. There is just no area around here and the wind always seems to suck!! Planning will be the hardest part But there is just no other alternitive. I will drive 2 hrs. For clean wind and sand. Once again I need to move. very frustrating being a kiter and living in an area that stinks for area and wind.:flaming: Summer comming up and that means it will be even worse. Sorry for all the complaints but I know you will understand. All I have left is to head for the sand!!!

Sthrasher38 - 15-4-2008 at 11:55 AM

Well it's blowing again today right now about 13mph so its time to get the ol Blade out of the bag go to the school and get in some static jumps!! Have not done that for awhile so here we go!!!!! Ta-Ta fer now.

Sthrasher38 - 16-4-2008 at 03:03 PM

Count me in!! when?

nhlrule56 - 17-4-2008 at 10:07 AM

Sorry for the cross post -

I have been thinking about White Lake lately. Has anyone been up there to see if its dried out yet? With fuel prices being what they are I have been hesitant to drive up to see this early in the season. I have seen a few places selling diesel for $4.39 a gal here in Sac.

Sthrasher38 - 17-4-2008 at 05:02 PM

Just abot the same for milk! It's getting off the hook!!

WELDNGOD - 17-4-2008 at 05:04 PM

Wind the new alternative fuel!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Sthrasher38 - 17-4-2008 at 05:09 PM

Yea, Why can't we just buggy to the dry lakes? We need to vote for a kite lane.

Sthrasher38 - 17-4-2008 at 05:10 PM

O.B. get together, White lake get together, Ok let's get together and go already!:borg:

flexiblade - 18-4-2008 at 12:11 AM

Hey guys - I finally registered on the forum (this is Doug by the way of the 3-D's) - here's the poop for this weekend -

Saturday April 19th forecast for Ocean Beach -
The wind should be a steady WNW pushing at 20 to 25 till 5:00 PM
Low tide is at 5:00 at which time the wind will be picking up to roughly 35MPH!!! (and maybe beyond -- ewwww. . . scary)

It will be a sketchy day - but as Dagon knows - it's a good time to whip out your Gps's and set some new records.

I'll definitely be there and I know that your curiosities will get the better of you. The only draw back on a day like this will be that heading up to the north end of the beach will be a trial in such strong winds - your sides will be sore for sure the next day, but the run down to the south will be a thrill not soon forgoten.

I'll see you there and don't forget to dress warm and bring a change of clothes if you take a dip - the temp is going to be between 46 and 52 with the wind adding a considerable wind chill.

DAKITEZ - 18-4-2008 at 08:31 AM

Doug welcome to the forum. What finally brought you out of silence? I hope to make it to OB this weekend, but not sure I will be there. the following weekend it looks like I will be there. We have plans to visit friends in Berkeley and there is no way I'm going to be that close and not try and get some runs in.

flexiblade - 18-4-2008 at 07:54 PM

If you can make it you will be spoiled for the rest of your days - 30+ days are intense. I'll be going early (8:00 am arrival) to catch the early morning winds for a good warmup for the afternoon. Hope to see you there.

Sthrasher38 - 18-4-2008 at 09:43 PM

Doug welcome to the forum! Good to see ya here. Had a good time at the farm last weekend wish I could have stayed longer. I really hope to go this weekend but same as Dlish I think next weekend for sure. I would love to be able to get there with those conditions But I have to work and already had some other plans that can't be broke. Thanks for the update and will be seeing ya all soon on the sand. I also need to get a seat for my bug the one I have now is trashed.:borg:

KYTE SLINGER - 19-4-2008 at 06:32 AM

It's been pretty consistent here in Monterey Bay and surprisenly early morning winds to match the tides ..... plus the high winter storms pulled a butt load of sand off the dunes and redeposited along the shoreline giving me extra room to ride on even if the tides aren't in minus ....

in the pass 15 years I can't remember seeing the beach this wide:smilegrin:

30+winds today  20mph the sand starts to blows

audios to most of the people giving me less to avoid,, but it doesn't fail that one person that thinks it perfect to launch their cheepo kite w/cotton line:evil:

Sthrasher38 - 20-4-2008 at 08:07 AM

Nice I like it there also! I have not got to ride there yet but with the beach expanding I bet it is really nice. As far as the cotton line guy try to look at him as a future power kiter.:borg:

WELDNGOD - 20-4-2008 at 08:11 AM

That is why ya keep small kites in your bag,c'mon be a kite pusher, help get the world hooked on skycrack!

art_lessing - 21-4-2008 at 09:54 AM

uh yeah....so we went to the beach...and I flew a 1.4 beamer in 56 mph winds and couldn't walk backwards....Dagon did it again.this time on the beach 50.3 mph gps reading ...that looks incredible ...one sec way down the beach and then zoom past doning 50....56 mph wind is too rich for my blood

Sthrasher38 - 21-4-2008 at 03:19 PM

56!! mph wind!! To rich for me also. What kite did Dagon use? I will be trying for his 50.3mph. Congrats Dagon or should I say speed Dagon?

flexiblade - 23-4-2008 at 06:01 PM

He was flying a 2.5m YoYo.

Dagon - 23-4-2008 at 10:31 PM

Mrlucky - 25-4-2008 at 03:22 PM

Sthrasher38 - 25-4-2008 at 07:25 PM

Awesome!

That is exactly what I am looking to do, I want to try out a buggy and some other kites. Then pick your guys brains a bit about the qualities of a good buggy. Then build a custom one :)

Sthrasher38 - 29-4-2008 at 03:36 PM

I wish I did not have to work. Tomorrow looks like good wind for sac. Then without fail on the weekend wind dies off and the heat comes in.

Mrlucky - 29-4-2008 at 04:26 PM

booooooo

Sthrasher38 - 29-4-2008 at 04:46 PM

It will seem like forever but we will hook up! I wanna let you try the blade and see if you have as much fun as dlish did the first time we met.:D Then there will be the Beamer and the Blaze and don't forget the Npw! I'll have fun just watching you. I almost forgot. As soon as I see how you fly you can even jump in the Buggy! You'll be spending all your pennies on kiting before you know it.

flexiblade - 30-4-2008 at 11:19 PM

If you need any help in designing a buggy - when the times right - I can hook you up - ask sthrasher and dlish - they've both seen the lazy-boy - but not the newly improved lazy-boy. There's always something you can change and improve upon. Do you have access to a welder or metal shop? - it's a key ingredient.

Yea, a good friend of mine just finished building his CnC machine. Between him and one other friend I have access to a shop with all the tools I would ever need to complete a Buggy. Last night I was showing him some of the desings that I found here. I hope to start building a buggy late May/early June.
Between the two of them, building anything is possible. I will have to tell you guys about the projects we have done.

Sthrasher38 - 1-5-2008 at 02:57 PM

What is everyone doing tomorrow on fri.? Any wind forcast for around here?

DAKITEZ - 1-5-2008 at 03:06 PM

Mrlucky - 1-5-2008 at 03:41 PM

I checked the forcast around Sacramento/Davis area this weekend though. Says wind in the 10mph range.

Sthrasher38 - 1-5-2008 at 03:56 PM
