The SOBB count down is on. Who is Coming?

centex_buggier - 30-6-2008 at 08:10 PM

I'm booked for Sunset beach. Counting down the days... Looking forward to seeing all you northwesterners and Canadians again.

Who is going to make it this year?

Steve.

Bladerunner - 30-6-2008 at 11:45 PM

I plan to be there but not for the whole week :singing:

furbowski - 7-7-2008 at 08:36 PM

I'll be there, if plans for a ride work out...(thanks for the invite, blade runner) :frog:

bison - 8-7-2008 at 09:47 AM

I'm taking the whole week off. Bit of a vacation without taking out a loan for the gas.

Bison

zloty - 8-7-2008 at 12:37 PM

I'm in for sure. See You all out there.

ripsessionkites - 22-7-2008 at 06:02 PM

still trying to get the week off from work.

if i cant go ... does anyone want my kites and buggy to use? furbowski?

macboy - 22-7-2008 at 10:20 PM

What's the weekend to choose if one had to choose? I'd really like to try to swing this.

sunset-Jim - 23-7-2008 at 06:40 AM

Kind of a tough choice really. The first weekend will be quite a bit more crowded being a holiday weekend. But the tides are more favorable that weekend too.

Bladerunner - 23-7-2008 at 07:46 AM

Last year was my 1st so this may be just my perception but I think the 1st weekend is very free for all. I only stayed for the long weekend but I think the racing and things tend to get happening in the second half.

I think there was some discussion about when to award prizes and stuff should be awarded. Even though I won't be there the second half I think it's logical to do the give-aways the second weekend. A reward for those who stick it out !

archkiter - 23-7-2008 at 08:37 AM

The second weekend last year was pretty mellow. The first weekend was more exciting as everyone was just showing up and getting together. I think that most of the racing happened during the week.

I plan on being out there both weekends and at least part of the week.

Ruudje - 23-7-2008 at 11:04 AM

its okay ruudje, plan for NABX ... at least 1 of 3 of your buggies will be present at SOBB.

email me when you want to skype so we can arrange your travels to NABX 2009.

Bladerunner - 2-8-2008 at 07:40 AM

What's THIS about only one of the Apex boys heading down :?::?::?:

I'm guessing Dirtslide ? What about You and Toolman ?

I booked at the KOA last night ! Unfortunately only Aug. 29 - Sept. 2. Too few holiday days too much fun to be had ! Ft. Stevens is FULL and KOA only has full hookup tent sites left !!!!!

USA_Eli_A - 2-8-2008 at 09:59 AM

Last year the riders that stayed through till the end scored prizes and Pizza with plenty of BEEEEEER

furbowski - 2-8-2008 at 02:32 PM

looks like I've got a ride down, might be there a day or two early... :D

ripsession, thanks for the offer, but I won't have my own vehicle :( I'm sure you'll find a way to make it down!!!!! :wink2:

still hoping to find a ride back up, we'll see what happens...

was hoping to meet up with the vancouver crowd at GP, hopefully I'll be able to make it this coming friday and meet a few of the folks there, been stuck working on replacing my folks's roof in the gulf islands, not the sort of job I can walk away from :(

Is it possible to camp on the beach at sunset with a small tent, kinda low-profile like? :ninja:

Bladerunner - 2-8-2008 at 05:27 PM

Will there be a Buggy camp this year ?

Some years a fellow offers up his back 40 to campers. If you end up stuck I booked my spot for 2 at the KOA .

YES, there is a lot of fun and prizes to be had for those who stick it out. Makes going home Tues. hurt just that much more :(
Watch out for the Wind Hog :smug:

furbowski - 2-8-2008 at 05:57 PM

the wind hog? that the fellow who burnt a kite last year???

2nd tent at the KOA would be cool.....

take care, BR

see y'all there -- now I just need to find me some wheels for the beach and I'm set to rock and ROLLLL baby!!!!!!!!

Bladerunner - 2-8-2008 at 07:58 PM

Coyotes run SMoooooth on Sunset Beach :singing:
That is me at Sunset in my Avatar

PrairieWind - 2-8-2008 at 10:53 PM

Don't forget about the great town of Cannon Beach to the south (slightly).

Awesome campspot at ... http://www.cannon-beach.net/searanch/

Walk to the beach... , not the SOBB beach... but a great beach... leave the family there and head up to sunset...

Closer than Warrenton...

USA_Eli_A - 3-8-2008 at 09:22 AM

campin on the beach is not good....between the coast guard and state police, you'll be had....

if you can make it to buggy camp, you'll find plenty of rides....beers and oysters too!

Cannon Beach is a fantastic spot...sunset is ground zero for kite buggying in Oregon...pretty much the whole NW....where Kite buggying has developed and produced so many good riders....the fastest buggies live at sunset....

Kite Ground Boarding is fun,,,I usually bring a small assortment of jumps for the board, gonna build on for SWAV also, extra wide so he can chuck it...

Discover Paragliding will be attending SOBB also...6,000 ft of 2,000lb spectra on a huge hydrolic wench,,,any takers....book it out at www.discoverparagliding.com

BTW SOBB kicks off our indian summer, the best winds come around then and last until about december...1st or 2nd, about the time our first Hurricanes come through..

COME ON DOWN!!!!
There is a classic car show in seaside the first weekend, also the Lewis and Clark kite expo...iquad usually attends....

jellis - 3-8-2008 at 11:20 AM

It's all good. Looks like a banner year for SOBB with lots of unorganized stuff to do. The reason I say unorganized is because there are no registration fees and no one is in charge. The races are held later in the week to avoid the Labor Day weekend crowd on the beach for safety sake. Once again our Buggy Camp Host, Phil Thompson has graciously offered his property for SOBB buggy camp but space is limited.
There will be a NAPKRA circuit race, pursuit races, and maybe even a long distance run or two. There will be prizes for the NAPKRA circuit races but please don't forget to register as a NAPKRA pilot to be eligible to compete in the circuit races at NAPKRA.org because of our insurance policy. For the overall prizes in the circuit race event, Kite Buggy Speed Shop will put up $200 in a KBSS gift certificate for 1st, $100 in a KBSS gift certificate for 2nd place and $50 in a KBSS gift certificate for 3rd place.
Above It All Kites has drawing during the week at buggy camp for prizes and a pizza feed at the shop on one evening.
Be sure to hang around Buggy Camp in the evening and find out what a DuckFart is.

do i need to put anything into the pot?

anything for SOBB / NAPRKA ... expect that 09' Hummer for Eli. ;-)

USA_Eli_A - 13-8-2008 at 09:32 AM

dude, I hate hummers, that's the #1 vandalized car in oregon. I prefer the GT......:D....

Ricco, you spoiled us last time with those generous offering, please feel free to splash the pot again....

I believe jon's got the left overs from the races so far!

Gonna be different for the Oysters this year, been taking notes! Now I need to find a reasonable source for Dungy Crab!

tdmc96 - 13-8-2008 at 07:56 PM

I too will be attending this years event:D
I will be following Bladerunner down on the 29th and probably head back on the 2nd or 3rd.
It will be fun having all that room to buggy on......can't wait!!
Looking forward to meeting you all.

Cheers
Ken(K3)

Jammer - 19-8-2008 at 12:25 PM

Well since someone mentioned DuckFarts, I guess we should chime in.
J and I will be there to initiate the uninitiated, lead the innocents down the path of corruption and generally contribute to the decadence.
See y'all Saturday
Looking forward to seeing everyone.

centex_buggier - 24-8-2008 at 05:45 PM

I'm arriving on Thursday morning. Anyone else going to be out that early?

buggeyed - 24-8-2008 at 08:13 PM

I'm planning on being out there starting Sunday:evil:
Sean

furbowski - 26-8-2008 at 07:19 PM

Well, I won't be coming... logistics, money, family, no buggy, no driver's license, the list of obstacles finally made the decision for me.

I'm already planning next year! hoping to work things out so it's the end of a month-long kitefreak road trip!

I'm on the oregon coast now with my family, I know what I'm missing!

cheers, all.

USA_Eli_A - 27-8-2008 at 01:23 PM

SOBB update, Well it seems the non-event has already started....the only complaint so far is that the winds is too onshore and the runs are too long, making everyone sore at the end of the day...sorry :)

action jackson - 27-8-2008 at 02:30 PM

Look everyone the pie eater is back. 3 weeks and no wind here.:sniff: Hoping that the storm stay away next.:puzzled: Yall enjoy it ............aj

He still has to sacrifice a kite

Jammer - 5-9-2008 at 04:13 PM

Eli, you forgot the DuckFarts!
Seriously, the food last weekend was great, Lynn's Spagetti on Sat, and Fresh tuna, shrimp, oysters, grilled corn on the cob, stir fried fresh vegies from Daves garden, etc on Sunday made it hard to leave on Monday.
Not to mention the really good weather and winds.
It was good seeing old friends and makin some new ones.
