Man alive. You know, I have a boatload of respect for all of you that live in these "danger zones". I visited an aunt down in Venice FL and was amazed
at how beautiful it was yet how terrifying it must be if and when danger starts to draw near. I assume that's the price you pay? I know I'd choose to
stay prepared and proactive against weather in exchange for living in such beautiful places but is that alone enough? Do you all lose friends and
neighbors routinely because they grow tired of the threat and move inland? Just curious. Thoughts and prayers for all of you.PHREERIDER - 8-9-2008 at 01:49 PM

Hey Aj
I hope the boat move goes smoothly. I have 5 homes and a business that I have not unboarded yet for my clients. We're going to wait till Wednesday to
decide.
For all others who don't live on the gulf I guess you have to take the good with the bad. To have our buggy areas on the gulf is sure sweet. I hope
Ike doesn't mess Galveston and the surrounding area up too bad. I really would like to have DBBB this year!
Best of luck AJ

Got a full day of work done and moved the boat to it hurricane slip. Lines doubled! And still found 2 hrs to kitesurf this afternoon in 15-20 winds.
This is why i choose this lifestyle. I get to play in the wind six or 7 days a week.........aj:alien:centex_buggier - 8-9-2008 at 07:06 PM

But on the bright side... It DOES NOT SNOW here in the hurricane areas!!!!!!! :singing::singing::singing:
Models have bounced all over the place on this one since it was in the Atlantic.
I vote for it to go to the King Ranch. Not a lot of population in that area, unless you count cows. Although that would give Corpus a good soaking.
I'm giving it one more day before I decide if I need to climb my trees and top them out. Hate it when holes get poked in the roof when it's rainin...f0rgiv3n - 9-9-2008 at 09:33 AM

hey aj and susan.

the latest track shows it going more west than north.
hope it misses you guys.
last weekend i got hit with the TS. over 7 inches of rain.
luckly i had no damage but i did have my gen. ready for my sump pump.
a few weeks ago i took my old car out for a spin and got hit with a storm. i had to pull over. the car don`t drive to good in the rain with 2.75 inch
tires and only 1, 8inch wiper blade. i called my buddy to tow me home.
stay safe down there and be careful.
somebody up here loves you!!! me!!!!!!!Taper123 - 10-9-2008 at 10:38 AM
I'd hate to have to be the one who makes the call to move people or not.
Everyone likes to say "But the models all point to....... (insert town here)".
The 10am report today and the 10am 3 day report from Wednesday the week Rita hit are eerily similar. All the models started to focus in on one spot.
Both storms were within a half a degree of long/lat of each other, and both have a ground zero on the NHC's maps within a few miles of each other.
Both have computer models that all have come together...
I'm not holding my breath on the models being right this time either. I was without power for a week after Rita and was lucky that was all the damage
I had to live through. Started topping some of my trees yesterday and will be up in the air again today after work. Storm surge and rain are not my
enemies where I'm at... it's all the trees in the forrest.
Now if the ten pm report tonight moves the target near Houston... it will be one of those Deja Vu momements :okitemaker4 - 10-9-2008 at 04:05 PM

I hope that all stay safe and make it through a ok. We are preparing the shelter up here in Oklahoma City for evacuees of the storm once again. From
what I saw after the last storm they did a great job up here taking care of the evacuees. They will be safe up here, but the models they are showing
on the weather channel say we are to get like 8-12 inches of rain and high winds in in Oklahoma City from the storm so folks that come here will not
be totally out of the storm, but will be safe and have a warm bed and warm food. Be safe down there for sure.

Take care AJ, Susan, Raymond, Brad, Pat, Terry, Dave, Charles, Tinker, Chris, Rick & Sara, Pat and after Ike passes be sure to let us know you’re
OK. All of my relatives in your area have evacuated and their homes are boarded up. I remember the drill, first board up the windows, then remove
anything around the place that could blow away, get somewhere safe, wait for the storm to hit (that’s when we used to have the hurricane parties as a
stress reliever), weather the storm, then the heart break of seeing your home/boat/belonging damaged or gone. You guys will definitely be in my
prayers, and remember you can get new stuff but buggiers are hard to replace. Stay Safe…………..bugymangp - 12-9-2008 at 09:52 AM

New video in from the west end. You can see SLP in the middle of the West End video. It looks like the dunes are gone and the beach is right in front
of the first row of houses now. It looks very bad.
The worst of the damage looks to be further north around Jamaica Beach. Not much beach left but maybe the tides are still running high? dunno.
We still haven't heard from Rick, Sarah, and Chris who rode the storm out in Houston. I imagine they're fine but many phone lines are still down. They

Kroc just called. They still don't have cell phone service at the house but he's driving around and got my voicemail notification. They are also
without power and now the news is saying the sewage is backing up so don't use it. They are out of food too and are having to wait in line for 6 hours
to get mre's.
They only lost a fence and a few shingles since they didn't have any large trees, but everyone else in their area that had large pines suffered
serious damage.
At least they are ok! That accounts for everyone.

Have internet on my blackberry. Thanks for all the help and calls of support from everyone. The insurance guy came and went in five minutes, said
the house was un-inhabitable. We have just pretended to be camping out in the front yard while we pull out all the wet carpet and box things up.
Have to wait for the next level of inspectors who the giuyu said will decide wether to total it or remove the entire roof structure. Snapped 2x6 and
2x12's like twigs. We joke with everyone who stops about our new skylight and indoor arboreum. Still have about a ten foot limb lying on the floor
of another room I have yet to get to. At least are food was saved, just kitchen cabinets with all spices and things got soaked... But neighbors have
fixed that. Have to get a tree service/crane to get the tree out. Had to run outside to turn off the gas since it ruptured the line. Stuff was
flying everywhere and you coulkd hear trees snapping. But the important thing is... Everyone is still here and alive. Once again, thanks for
everything and all the support you guys have given us.acampbell - 16-9-2008 at 11:17 AM

Going to go get the pics soon and cd of them and will try and post when I can. Our dogs and parrot, which are family to us, are exceptionally

Have a contractor coming tomorrow to give his opinion. Insurance has only sent their catrostrophic guy who said our house was un-inhabitable and gave

It killed me today not to be able kite. it was blowing sideshore 15-20 ne. I drove all the way to Slp and came out at the water tower. Then drove to
east beach to see. Both look fine with even m0re sand. You would not beleive the debria field. Everything you can think of is laying around.
Everything! The stench is unbearable. Yes the piling are now broken off at the base and only stick up 6 inches. In my book thats worse! Most homes are
standing but heavly damaged. Still without power and water here at the marina. Curfews are in effect dusked to dawn in most areas. Military aircraft
fills the skys during the day bringing in aid to the airforce base. Have a pod site distubing food, water and ice just 1/2 mile away.Cut my work back
to just a6 hrs today so i could solve my own issues at home. Other liveabords lost there boats so the commuity is helping out. You really figure out
your trued friend in the time and condition. I gave $100 to a (friend), who had only $40 to his name. Come to find out that he spent it all at the
liquor store that was half price within hours. I lost it! Friend no more!! Otherwise i am doing fine for now, i still love living on the water. Btw i
cannot kite due to the fact that they have been dumping million and millions of gallons of raw :aliensewage into the water since the storm hit. My
closes options may be Port a 3 hrs away or Austin. I mostly kite 7 min away 5-7 days a week. I cannot sail due to sunken debria all through are bay. I

If you do come up to Austin, let me know. There's a few kite surfers up on some of the lakes and I still buggy at Old Settlers regularly. I haven't
talked to Dave Petty in a while, but he was kite surfing earlier in the year at Lake Pflugerville.
It sounds like it will take time to clean up the beach, but we should still have a future there. For the last few days I have been depressed thinking
that our playground would be no more. Perhaps a selfish thought considering how many people lost so much, but that beach means a lot to me. It's the
only place we all get together each year and it's a huge relief to know that we should be able to do that still. It obviously will take some time, but
when we hold our next event there again, it will be a privilage to be there knowing what we almost lost.

my finger pier...............ajbbrex - 19-9-2008 at 03:53 PM
Hey Aj
You need to get one of the small Louisville Slugger Bats they are about 2 feet long they are small enough to swing in close quarters but long enough
to keep someone at bay and could do major damage if needed.
Brad Taper123 - 19-9-2008 at 05:11 PM
I hear ya AJ. Times like these bring out both the best of people and the worst. I have had so many people stop and offer us help. Word got out to
all of my kids friends, and all the people my wife once worked with at the school district. We've had people we've never even met before stop and
ask if there is anything they can do.
But we've also seen the scam artists come out of the woodwork offering their services/scams as well. Talked to a contractor we trust today who used
to specialize in structural work/ foundations. he thinks our house is repairable, but will be around 70k in damages. he laughed and told us wether
we want it or not, we will be getting a new kitchen out of the deal.
Man... this year has sucked. WIfe lost her mom in January. Had a bad medical scare earlier in the year, and then has a tree almost kill her. But
we are all still here and making the best of it, looking forward to being able to hit the beach. She was just starting to be able to move alone in
her buggy and is back to riding tandem now... which is stillmore than enough to bring a smile to our face.
C ya'll at the beach action jackson - 20-9-2008 at 03:23 AM
I got a chance to fly my rev at sunset yesterday! It was such a good feeling except for the smell! Clearlake is now black! Its like living at a turd
farm. I made a big dent yesterday in my own personal clean-up. Stoped the water leak so the boat does not sink while at work and put some clothes back
in the closet. Still no power or water on dock. It might be another week or two. I am living in a 12v world. Headed towards Port a tonight, just hope
the forecast picks up...............ajtedsfoils - 21-9-2008 at 11:12 AM
AJ I'm glad you made it.
Today is my first day off since the storm. So far I have worked 12 days straight without a break. I am looking forward to a little RR, BBBQ. During
the first night I worked a 23 hour shift sitting in the patrol car under a bridge watching the storm pass. No shelter was provided for us we were all
forced to find our own. We continued to run calls for service until the wind speeds were sustained 50mph (i'm not sure whos idea that was but we all
know if you have a sustained speed you are going to have gusts too). The trees and signs were already on the ground. I have a little dash cam video I
will try to transfer and post as soon as I can. At this point we continue to work 12 hour shifts 6 days a week.
Lets all hope the situation gets better for everyone who has suffered.Taper123 - 21-9-2008 at 05:07 PM
Glad to hear you made it through safely Ted. Those of us in the region appreciate what it is you and those in your profession do for us in the
community.

Mostly co-workers! The whole city has a stink so most people didn't notice..............ajTaper123 - 23-9-2008 at 06:09 AM
As I wait for insurance to show up, my house is slowly turning into a giant petri dish. Suppppposedly they will be out today or tomorrow. Linda's
off to the orthopedic this morning so will find out more on that one today.
Neighbor across the street has no insurance and asked if I'd help get the trees off her garage. One of them is on the power drop, and I noticed that
it seperated the connectors, leaving a hot wire hanging down about eye level inside the tree branches. That could have been fun to run into, at least
then I wouldn't notice everything else anymore. Told her to call the power company and get that shut off before anyone touches it.kitemaker4 - 25-9-2008 at 07:12 PM
Hey AJ
Does all of Houston and the surrounding area have power yet?
Susan (npw goddess)Taper123 - 26-9-2008 at 08:55 AM
Nope on the power to everyone. I have it, but still hear the hum of generators. Have friends a couple miles away who still have the bulk of their
subdivision in the dark. Still... despite all the whining in the media, the power companies have doen a fantastic job reparing the damage.kitemaker4 - 26-9-2008 at 09:41 AM
Thanks Steve
How is it going with the house and foot repairs?
SusanTaper123 - 26-9-2008 at 10:05 AM
Linda is officially now in a "boot" for 4 to 6 weeks. Seems a little run in with a cinder block helped re-align it... or something like that. Doc
said since it's pretty well aligned now, she could either have surgery and pins, or strap it into one of those boots and not use it. (Either way she
wasn't gonna be able to use it) So she took the boot.
House is a biological experiment at the moment. Insurance adjusters walked by one room and said it didn't look like it had any damage, so i shined a
flashlight on the mold on the cieling... hmmm, looks like water damage was their corrected statement. They came and looked at everything
yesterday, and said it would be a couple days before they had everything ready to give me an estimate on the damages.Taper123 - 15-10-2008 at 04:30 PM
First estimate finally came in. 83k in damage. Wowza.... But on the bright side, my tarps are holding up well even though it's freakin pouring
here today. Should get another estimate or two finished in the next few days. All the contractors go "Wow" that tree really did some damage.
Maybe by the start of next hurricane season we'll be back in the house :wee::singing::wee::singing:f0rgiv3n - 16-10-2008 at 07:11 AM
:eekdrull: Holy cow man.... I hope they can get on that for you!!! Sorry you have to be depending on tarps! O.O . Well I guess that is something that
makes things bright :P No water in the house eh? :Ange09:action jackson - 16-10-2008 at 08:12 AM
How did you make out after the 5 inches rain last night? Yall got pounded up there!....................ajTaper123 - 16-10-2008 at 11:32 AM
Guess my tarp installing skills were up to it... House stayed nice and dry. Trailer roof and rain wakes you up at first... then the steady sound
put me right back to sleep.
We have a refrigerator plugged in on one circuit at the far end of the house. We jokingly say we are going to the "Store" when we leave the trailer
and go into the house. Might have to go to the real store today though, the other one is almost empty.
Off a few days next week... will have to make a run to the beach for a day.action jackson - 16-10-2008 at 12:01 PM

I'll be busy redoing my fence. My son and a couple of his friends just left to head to the pass. They'll be there fishing overnight. Go zip by
and cut the lines with your fins... not. But if ya see him and his friends in a grey dodge pickup... feel free to harass them.
I'm gonna go next weekend. Or maybe tuesday as well since I'm off work. ALways love going during the week when no one is there.Flyaurf77 - 9-11-2008 at 08:19 AM
