Kite Designs - Most Beautiful (and FUGLY)?

My favorite kites to see in the air are the HQ Montana III and IV, Flexifoil Blade IV Petrol, and the Peter Lynn Phantom. I just got a Peter Lynn Synergy in Rasta and it might make my top best looking kites list, but I need to get to know her first.

Here is Angus's 4.9 Blade IV in Rasta and the Blade IV 6.5 Petrol that used to be mine.

I have to admit, even my Montana II looks a little better up in the air than I thought it actually would. I'm just glad it doesn't have the same big, funky "eyebrows" that the Montana I has! (what WERE they thinking?)

The Access (here I go again!) is quite nice (can't say I like all the other Ozones as much)

In my opinion (even though it isn't really a powerkite) the symphony is the most ugly:

PKD century soulfly is my fav- looks like it's tattoed like me:tumble: The SF2 is on the way I guess and it is sick too. Props to Ozone also for not being afraid to make a kite with olive drab and orange on it. Sounds atrocious but looks cool.

I agree with Beamerbob on the Montana III. The one in the pic i got from him, looks the best on a over cast day. The blue on this kite is just an eye catcher.

Truth be told the jojo's look really nice in the sky. the high aspect ratio and clean look really compliment each other, even more so when piloted by someone who make it float and fly (seemingly) effortlessly. http://www.jojowing.com/img/galerie/8.jpg


Unfortunately I think most of the really sexy kites are really designed for our water brethren. They not only get to play with a larger canvas but also get to do some really cool things with shape. For example the the naish helix or slingshot turbo for form are pretty cool. The pl phantom put a twist on the simple pattern that I really like. there are a bunch of smaller kite manufactures doing some really funky designs lately too.

I second that- that black 4m ace with the dark red leading and trailing edges looks good.

I agree with you too, arkay about the jojo's. Simple and clean.

Kitejumper- my male ego is too fragile for "hot pink", so I'll go with "high visibility red". Loud colors in abundance are good too. I think the trend for me is I pretty much like them all. And if the graphics are kind of crappy, then just get the biggest one you can, because everything looks better when it's bigger than a car.

Here is my personal favorite of all of the kites that I've owned. This is the '08 Access XC. Looks awesome on the snow.

I also think its interesting the order of the stack. it seems like the 12 and 15 should be flipped. I wonder if they stacked it that way just so the colors looked more like a gradient??? hmmm.

They tried to do them in order but it wouldn't fly right. They tried this switch and the stack flew pretty good.

I've always found the Montanas very striking in the air.

Ozone Frenzy FYX (I really like all of Ozone's designs, especially the ones that look kinda like the Mazda emblem)




Peter Lynn Synergy




2005 and 2006 Slingshot Fuel (the Rev's look pretty cool as well)




2006 and 2007 Naish Shockwave



2009 North Vegas



Other honorable mentions include the Airush Crest (but I have never seen one of these kites in person) and the Cabrinha Switchblade III.

As for the Fugly ones, there are too many to list.

My 12m Cult is a thing of beauty :D - sigma lei's in general look pretty good.

Blades look awesome

The limited edition flexifoil rage in black and hot pink was the coolest kite ever!

Twister II looks great in blue and black or red and black - green or orange and blue looks pants.

Ozone's black and orange colour scheme looks pretty good too.

Cant really think of any seriously ugly kites - all kites are cool
