if you are doing the stalling method then you do it directly downwind. theres no need to stall the kite if you are flying it to the edge of the window to land it.
a suicide leash is a leash you use when you fly unhooked. it fastens to a rope that runs around the back of your harness and the other end goes on the d ring of the chicken loop.

Ah! That also explains the big loop with safety release on the back of my harness. I don't think I'll be using that any time soon. Thanks for the info!

I remember seeing a video where they popped the safety on the loop to drop the kite ... it was done with the kite at the zenith. Kite flagged nicely but did roll a few times, tangling the lines ...
My instructor buddy flies the kite to the edge of the window then pops the safety and grabs a line, dropping the kite on the ground. It's an inflatable though ...

Technically, I guess you could land a kite anyway you like - there are just different risks associated with the styles ...
