Yea i dont think he knew or even cared, he was just running full tilt. When the owner finally got to the beach the dog stoped for a second, looke at them, then ran away from them. He was having a great time.

When my dog was a pup I'd let him chase one of my old stunt kites back and forth but soon realized I was training him to chase kites so i had to keep him on a good leash at kite events. With my foils he'd run up to them when on the ground but didn't know what to do other than sit on them and then there was the danger of nail damage or getting tangled etc. and I wouldn't want him to do it to any friends gear. If I ever got another dog I would train him to run beside me but not see the kites as a play thing to chase - maybe it's just a golden retriever's nature.

We used to have a rottweiler come out to chase us on ice buggies in the winter until one day he got too close to Jim's buggy and blades - a little yelp and never chased us again.

Anyway, one other good dog story - a buddy of mine was flying a foil at a school yard in the summer down the road from the regional police headquarters. He saw a Canine Unit vehicle pull in and a police officer started walking around the school grounds stopping once in a while to do something on the ground. Turned out they were hiding samples for drug dog to find on training. So he's flying the kite and hears a noise and police officers yelling at him not to run as he sees a german shepherd making a bee line for him full tilt. He has a large ill tempered dog of his own so he landed the kite quickly and stood as the dog hit him paws on his chest and grabbed his arm. Police came and got the dog off and were apologetic about the young eastern european dogs being a bit sketchy. The offered to clean his sweatshirt etc and that was it - so many ways that could have turned into a law suit - good thing it wasn't a kid. He came over and was telling the story and showing the paw prints on his clothes and little rip in the sleeve - I told him maybe that dog caught a whiff of a stronger sample.
