For those in doubt....Just got home from a session that I started with a Bego 600. Wind was 8ish mph...was practicing 2 wheeling...
Wind picked up and the Bego went back in its bag. Epic low wing engine here!

As much as I might love to have more stuff, I have to put the kybosh on buying... (wifey looked at me cross eyed after she saw the price of the new
bug)... I'll be in the market for a 4m-ish something come fall though,... so its good to be aware of a contender. (guessing the 400 then is near 4m +
or -)
Thanks for the info, really I was just curious, and being a newby, I am only familiar with measures in meters for kites (funny thing for an American
carpenter).
I'm going to take a nap now

I am interested in your Bego 600. U2U sent.
I am looking for a light wind (1 – 6 mph) kite for scudding and landboarding with more pull than a Crossfire I 4m. According to the wind chart at http://older.macpara.com/kites/kites.html, the Bego 400 would probably give me a better wind range for my weight of 135 lbs. Nonetheless, all the
posts make this Bego 600 seem like it is something worth considering. Can any of you experienced Bego fliers comment on the accuracy of the wind
chart? Thanks.

For whatever reason I can't view the chart but what I can tell you is this: the 600 will fly in almost no wind at all. I have launched in a breeze
that had dragonflies buzzing around without issue and in the buggy I've been moving in grass in 5mph wind. Keep in mind I'm about 210 pounds and I am
using extra wide tires.
Flying static I have found that this kite started to develop power in 3-4 mph wind. From my experience, the Bego likes to be kept busy in the air. I
keep mine moving when flying static as well as in the buggy. It's a very fast turning kite for its size. It will turn on a wingtip with the proper
input from handle and brake.
I love my Bego for low wind days

I weigh 150#s and have a 400 and 600. If skied with the 600 in measured 4mph winds (but it was a fast / ideal surface with smooth, steady winds).
I've used it kite landboarding in under 7mph when the flag was just barely blowing. It can become a handful for me when the wind starts pushing 10
(especially if the wind isn't smooth).
There is no magic bullet for no wind days. The bego is excellent at creating and flying in apparent wind but if there is no wind then there is no
wind and it won't fly unless you want to run around and pump your arms like crazy. You won't be scudding at 1 mph. If the wind is a constant 4 and
you can turn it through the center of the window, you probably can scud. Low wind flying really is dependant on wind quality.
Lulls to 6 = crap flying with the kite pulling then collapsing in the lulls. A steady 3 - 6 mph wind makes a huge difference and the bego will
capitalize on that difference. But if the wind drops to nearly nothing, the kite isn't going to stay in the air without significant effort on your
part.

I'd say thats pretty accurate. Like Roc said, smooth, constant wind is essential.

Begos are unique kites, IMO. Given when they were designed, they really have some of the rawness of the blade III series with the speed and upwind
abilities of a race kite. The race kite cross breeding smoothes out some of the lift from the blade like cross breeding. The begos are, by far, the
fastest kites I've ever owned. The first time on skis with the 4m I was FLYING, hit the brakes to back it away from the edge and it was like I down
shifted and then stomped on the gas. The thing took off. For a while I didn't know how I was ever going to redirect it and stay on the ground. When
they get going, they really get going. When they get going and the wind gets punchy, you really feel it. Not that the kite is likely to collapse but
it keeps down shifting and accelerating and you need to know how to ride that out.
If you are a beginner and this scares you, pass on the kite because I am not exaggerating in the slightest. However, if you use your head, go out in
low wind and build your confidence and understanding of how to fly this kite then you can learn on it and should buy it. I learned on a 8.5 blade
III. Wasn't the smartest thing to do but if you respect the kite and the wind, you can do it.
They do have insane A/Rs so if you are flying in crap, turbulent wind then you will not enjoy these kites. However, if you ride in relatively smooth
winds and you want something that is FUN to fly, has great speed, and great lift when you want it, begos really can't be beat. They'll teach you how
to fly on the brakes and really feather your control for ultimate response. Kind of like flying a Rev. My 400 is the most fun foil I own to fly
because of how it dances on the brakes and can pinwheel on a dime turning around its own wingtips. The 600 is fun too but I'm not a big fan of
pumping and running so its more a light wind weapon for me then something I'd break out to static fly.

Just got back home this evening and have a backlog of emails, etc to go through... I'll get replies out to everyone by tomorrow at the latest.
P.S. snuck an LD and my samurai into a suitcase in the hope to do some static flying and scudding while I was out of town... manage to get a few hours
to myself and found a safe stretch to fly on with a fairly steady wind.... :D I reeeaaallllyyyyyy miss being able to fly kites regularly.
