All permit holders have to set up where the BLM tells us to set up.

We share facilities with NALSA. NALSA will be gone by the time we get there, which is why we are over at Harper before the event.

There will be some Blo-Kart activity during our event.

2 years ago I came home with " black toe " from pounding into the bumps near camp all week. Last year I tried to get away to smoother ground but still messed my toe up pretty good coming and going.

The freestyle ATB folks need to stay near camp in case of injury. They to are forced to ride rough ( less safe ) terrain when it doesn't need to be that way.

Is area 3 where the land sailors set up after we arrive ? So smooth there but I try and stay out of their way.

Just got home from Ivanpah and the NALSA crew are there and so is the tent. The surface where I rode (at area 3) was smooth in most spots and sort of rough in others. Just pick your smooth area and stay in it if smooth is much better for you.

I guess the NALSA crew don't include us in their brotherhood. I waved with eye contact probably 10 times with never a nod or wave back. I'm not used to that out there or with buggiers.

Sounds like some of the kitesurfers I ran into in Michigan this past summer. If you weren't flying an LEI on the water barefoot on a surfboard they didn't even want to look at you......

Don't worry, they are the lords of the lake, invented all things to do with the wind, and have the blessing of the wind gods personally.

Indavidually they are not bad. As a group, they will freeze any thing that is not the same as them, OUT.

Dave Kennedy wanted to put a baby phone on their part of the lake at Elmers that said 'in case of kite buggy, break glass' due to an incident the rangers told us about, when the land sailors actually called the rangers to report that we were kite buggying on 'their' part of the lake. True story.

Remember, we don't worry about them, and now, waving at them gives me great joy, as they never wave back, causing me to wave all the more!

So remember kids, we're the good guys, and if someone else's joy comes from being sour, let's help them out by being friendly. Nothing bothers a sour person more than good cheer.

Well, I waved at all of them (I'm from the southeast) but I only know of about 10 that I'm sure saw me. No navigation issues on head to head matchups, everyone went the easy way to pass. They will be gone by the time I get back.

Is "blessing of the wind gods" something I get through BLM or is there another channel to go through? :cool2:

I have lots of friends that land sail. Many of them ride side by side with me on the buggy and are very friendly. During the world cup, many of them haven't spent that much time on the lake bed and just like us buggiers, can be a little intimidated with the high speeds and hard surface. Many of them have also never seen or ridden around kite buggiers and don't know that much about them. Perhaps they don't realize that we have almost as much control as they do, or that we too can tack at different angles. If they feel we are making it hard for them to ride then they may have a little animosity towards us.

The playa is very large, give everyone plenty of room so they don't get worried. If it is someone you dont know, it may not be the best idea to race right up on them while they are riding. Instead, give plenty of space until they know you will not be an issue they may need to worry about.

Its not about Us and Them....its about all of us enjoying what the playa and wind offers us.

Blo Karters are not the same.

Never had any attitude from them at all.

Major attitude from the land sailors, although i interact with them every year, and get along fine individually.

Have spent hours on the phone over BLM stuff for sure.

I only interacted with 3-4 in riding scenarios and every time we both had easy solutions to our crossing paths and had our crossing worked out with 200 yards or more to spare. I never had an incident or conflict while riding around anyone, just noticed that despite my friendliness, I never got a return gesture of camaraderie from any of them while riding. We all put our pants on the same way every morning and heck we're at the greatest place in the world to ride the wind and are enjoying the wind and lakebed together. I was surprised that they seemed to either have issue with me being there or just don't like those that do things differently than them. Their problem, not mine.
