Just to help clear things up as some are not clear. NABX 2014 has been cancelled. Lucky for us Beamer Bob and Brian Holgate have taken the initiative to provide us an event to attend on Ivanpah in April. It is called the Ivanpah Buggy Blast ( IBB). Thanks to these guys hard work we have a event to buggy with our kite family.

This is just a thought about going to IB2 from the East side of the US. I don't fly anymore so I drive.
It's about 4300 miles each way, about $1400 in fuel round trip from Aiken, SC 29801

I'm thinking about renting an RV and pulling my 16' cargo trailer for the gear. Could probably sleep 6 in the RV and my trailer has a nice bunk in it. Probably another 1 or 2 could sack out in there.

Ok, if we drive round the clock and average 42 miles an hour it will take 4+ days out and 4+ days back. A week at the event. Say, 20 days at the most. Not sure how many of you could take 3 weeks off for the trip. Being retarded, errr retired I have the time.

That would be maybe $450 a person for 6 or 7 fellows. Could include food and some drink.

Stay on the playa, and enjoy the goings on from sun up to sun down. Have our own gear to play with, and have a great road trip!

Just and idea. Starting to plan. I think it's going to be an epic event next year. Any takers?

I was using "gas buddy" for numbers and I knew that looked weird.

Several drivers can make some miles, as long as nothing falls apart but AAA can rescue us if needed. And most of us are pretty good shade tree mechanics. As long as we plan to get there before it starts and if it goes without a hitch... can you say pre-party?

Yes, a stellar road trip. Fartin, swearin, BSin, stinkin and tellin lies. Could be a bucket list trip!

42 mph seems to be a slow average. I tend to average 70 mph on long drives after averaging in food and fuel stops. If you can average 65 it's only a 33 hour drive. In a car, you could do that in 2 days with a hotel stop in Amarillo if you want to maximize your destination time and minimize your highway time. For the RV gas bill, you could stay in hotels and ship all your stuff.

How about some planning tips for some of us that are thinking about coming out to IB2 for the first time BB?

How many people can we stuff into a room at Buffalo Bills? I haven't used the code to see the price, know about what a room cost per night and do they give weekly rates with the code?

Aren't there cheap rooms in Las Vegas? And how far is Vegas away from the playa?

What about the shipping of gear? Ship to who where? My bug weights in at about a 100 pounds. Did you ever ship one from South Georgia out there? I would think the cost 2 ways would be $$$ with insurance and all.

Are there other things for us to think about?

As to driving, I always see my drv. moving time and total time on my GPS when I'm on the road. Seems to be a pretty good difference. And with an RV if you push the envelope they just suck down the fuel by 100 dollar bills.

Your mostly right about things BB. Anything else for us to think about?
Road checks for illegals? Have our shot records up to date? Is there Cell phone service?
How to dress, hot and or cold? and how about that dust?

Help us out BB. :puzzled:

IB2 is a 1st for all!!

I do remember my 1st trip to NABX...

The rooms are cheap enough that sharing with 1 other is ok.

Vegas is 30 - 40 min out without traffic!!!

I know the guys in Vegas have received gear before.

How to dress - Hot, Cold = yes
Playa Dust - I think it's still coming out of places:o

flyhigh, there is always a buggy sitting still. I have 3 and certainly, one of them should be sitting still if you need one. Brian has a couple buggies too. I'm sure if you see one you'd like to try, just ask and the owner would most likely accommodate you. I understand Kent will have some of his Ivanpah buggies on site as well. Big Kid brings a trailer load of them too.
