My problem is that he had to be told in the first place. What happened to "It's not yours, leave it the F*@%^K alone."

I would probably relent a little bit if you had later found him in the parking lot checking the tire pressure on everybody's car and topping off where needed..... in that case, bless his little heart.

Frankiter and I were once flying a 4.5 Cult in a ballfield area (no game on) and this guy stalked up to us and right out asked if he could try it. I asked him if he ever flew a 4 line and he said "yea, yea.. " as he proceded to grab the handles out of my hands while the kite killers were still on my wrists!! Pretty much ignored my instructions. I figured he was drunk and the wind wasn't that powerfull, just enough to maybe pull someone off their balance --and he pissed me off, and ssooooooo..... Against all better judgement, I handed him the handles kinda hoping for a spectacular faceplant. I know that it was irresponsible of me but he DID piss me off! He then proceded to rocket the kite into the sky, flail around like you'd expect and then back up running backwards for some reason and WHAM! Kite slammed into the top of a wooden light pole. Stuck.

He tossed the handles back to me and said "Sucks for you..." and stalked off again. My brother in law and I gaped, looked at my kite dangling from the top of the pole, gaped at him again. I was too awestruck at the audacity to kick the crap out of him (not to mention I havent been in a fight since 3rd grade...) !

I guess I got what I deserved, and I learned my PR lesson--I should have just seen the situation for what it was and said "no". He could have gotten hurt and that would have been bad for kiting. (but he did piss me off!! )

Still though, the public has no clue about these kites. We have to resist the urge sometimes. But he REALLY pissed me off!!

POkite ...that guy is running up quite a karma bill!

about the time..."...sucks for you" reach my reptilian center, the earth would have reach up and encouraged a change in his facial features and demanded some body parts to remain for his penance. my guiding hand swiftly there to show the way.

and admitting to him that it only proper to SHARE the suck factor with him.

 reptilian center ... is that a legal defense?

I had a park warden try to kick me out of the park by telling me "Paragliders not allowed" so I suggested he take my Bullet 4.5 to the top of the hill (just over there) and jump off ... I think it lost something in the translation though ...

People who touch - prevalent here because as kids they're not taught that they're the bottom of the food chain eg. no respect for other people or their property and they grow up to be ignorant, oblivious & self-absorbed. They get a rather nasty fright encountering me or - worse for them - the wife.

Flying my stunt kite at a park, I'd landed it and a kid walks up and picks it up and is about to play with it when I yell at him and he drops it.
Wife says "Don't touch that!"
Kid says "I didn't touch it!"
Wife says "Yes you did!"
Kids says "No I didn't!"
Wife says "Yes you did and don't call me a liar, you brat!"
Kid's mother comes over ... "Don't yell at my kid!"
Wife says "You should teach him not to touch other people's property!"
Kid's mother says "He didn't touch the kite!"
etc

:ticking:

Actually that kind of conversation goes on a lot now I think of it  don't even start on people clambering over my bike :ticking:

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Hmmm I think I'll brush up on the SLEEPER.

When someone approaches the kite, just run up behind them and put em out. When they wake, politely say, was there something I can help you with!

Oh reminds me, a story coming.

Second wife, had a son, maybe 10 years old at the time, didn't stay with us. But every time we had him he was the devil. I mean a real evil satin devil. I dreaded those times, kicking the back of the car seats, running across the back of the couch, cutting the phone wires. and the list goes on.

Well he's over one weekend, I've had enough, he's laying on his tummy watching TV and being quite but I know whats gona happen when the toons go off.

I go get my good leather belt, sneak up behind him and wear his a$$ out. Mommy is screaming, he's rolling in the floor crying, why did you do that, why did you do that.

I said next time you get out of line, thats what is going to happen to you.

Never again did that kid ever act up around me. It was the perfect solution. I guess his little bottom had been belt free until then.:lol::lol::lol:

Yea, let's all wear wide lether belts to the field! Nothing says "pay the **&%!# attention" like the "fwap, fwap, fwap, fwap" of the belt getting yanked out of the belt loops and being prepared for a down home a$$ whoopin'! I don't want to have to buy new Peter Lynn sticks but they would make awesome switches!

Hardrock, its amazing you afford to fly anything except a paper kite with all those ex wives in your quiver!

You can be like me and say to the next one like I said to my wife about flying R/C planes--"I've been flyin' before I met ya, and I'll be flying after yur gone...."

Well you can imagine the chin music tackometer red lined on that one. I don't fly so much....

Yea man, I can tell you from around here.
Your not missing a brother are you?:lol:

Your right about the paper kites too. It takes years to recover. I haven't yet and got one in Beaufort that won't help pay for the D. But that one didn't clean out house and take the light fixtures, wall switches and anything else she could get off with a screwdriver or putty knife. Theres a true story there.

Sweet thang is different tho. about 4 years in, we never been in a fuss. I'd did one of them double #@%$#! slap moves on any guy that said there was a perfect woman before I met her. But now I'm convinced there is such a thing.

Dude, remember this tho when the fine a$$ babe walks by. No matter how good she looks, somewhere there's a man sick and tired of putting up with her chit.:lol:

doesn't apply to the above,,,looking over my shoulder now.

Reminds me, got to put something in the wanted section for her.

Mood: destined to die of sudden impact, not boredom

[*] posted on 4-6-2010 at 02:56 PM

First of all this RANT thread was a great idea! Nothing worse than having a good rant ruined by empathetic, mamby pamby, reasonable people. That can be almost as frustrating as the cause of the rant.

What we need is some good o'l fashioned conviction! Conviction of the multitudes of @#$%ing morons who frequent the beaches and get in the way of our right to kite! So far, there have been quite a few 'funny cuz it's true' posts. Thanks.

My turn! I've set up kites to be launched at secluded beaches 2km. wide only to have a family with children 2 and 5yrs.old set up within 10 ft. Then watch me and friends kiting on the water doing 20ft. jumps, doing tricks, and wiping out all over the place, and position themselves in the worst possible place in the water WITH THEIR KIDS as if begging me to clean out the whole family! Like a moth to a flame! This scenario has played out several times. Why don't they clue into the fact that the same power which makes 20 foot jumps possible can also be disasterous when it gets out of control! Swear to God, lemmings have a stronger survival instinct than a lot of beach goers.

Fortunately, I live in a place where we have lots of beach and not so many beachgoers most of the year. Mainly because it's cold.

Kamakatsu, I taught in Taiwan for several years and got to know Asian culture. The scenarios you mentioned bring back memories. I can see it happening! If kiting is really important to you then my suggestion is to leave. Go to Thailand or the Philipinnes! It's heaven by comparison!

Hey ... Zeus. I am not a slice of pork, BTW

Thailand was awesome! Although there were dick kiteboarders doing the slalom through swimmers at the beach, there is more than enough space to get out and have fun. At Pran Buri, I had the whole place to myself!
It's the numpties on the land I worry about ...

Oh yeah and the #@%$#!ing kids who have a great time pushing sticks into the sand so they stick out like those pits of death the Viet Cong used to make - WTF are these people thinking they're doing?!?!

And don't start me on the neighbor - I think I've spared you guys that story but I'll be needing some advice on revenge tactics before we move house eh ...

Kami, The Kid learned about Pungee sticks one winter when we went tubing up north. He decided he could get a running start and fly over the safety burm at the bottom of the run. And he did it (way to go kid) but behind this safety burm was about 100 or so sapplings that they had chopped off with a machetty nice and pointy. Not much blood was spilled and his snow suite was getting to small any way! But he didn't learn from it as he kept trying to do it again.
Well he is a kid what can you do!!!

Lucky for The Kid! :o

These sticks are being pushed into the sand on the shore of the kite beach - I can only assume that people are either truly that retarded that they don't think about people stepping on them, flying kites into them, swimming onto them etc or they are doing it intentionally
