Mood: Dyin' to go flyin'

@ Hardrock, mougl, willardthegrey, did you ride skateboards as a kid? This will be helpful,it isn't the same ,but you would have better ability to roll on wheels. If not ,in fact even if ya did, get out and just ride it like a skateboard. Turn with it, ride up into grass , roll down a hill, ride it all over. It will get you comfy w/ the board being on your feet in motion. The gettin air will come later. You better get comfy sticking your feet out in front of ya and leaning back . You gotta have enogh sail or wind to support ya when you lean back to counter the pull of the kite. here is a pic of me flyin the8.6 RII at Wildwood buggy bash. Notice the lean back, and the feet out in front.

Mougl, if ya can't stay on the board then try a little kite and just roll around then try the little kite in some higher wind. After a while, you will be zingin down the beach/field. Then it will be time to learn all the arial stuff that breaks bones. Ya gotta learn to walk before ya can drive a car.

I guess I took to it ,cause my generation were the ones to first empty swimming pools to ride skateboards in. So I got a little knowledge boost. Just had to get the kite thing down.

hope this helps ya, keep on ridin and you will get better.

Hey weldngod, yes I did the skateboard thing around 30 years ago. Used to be a real idiot on one screaming down long hills, that had cars on em. We had a skateboard park in town also. Seen a many broken arms in that place, I think the song Black Betty came out then.
They always played it there.

I know what you mean about the feet thing. Got to watch Phree at JIBE for hours. Nice pics tho, thanks.

I did some down hill today well yesterday now. Busted it a couple times too. Rolled an ankle once doing slides off the rope.

I know you guys think its nuts but before the tree limb set up I couldn't shoot down that little bank. My worst fall to date was on that little drop. I like it now. There's another bank right after it I'm taking to pretty good.

Yea I don't plan on any air time with a kite in the near future. Just some rolling. I did ride behind the car last weekend, was fun.

The biggest issue is wind, a flat spot and time.

A track around the home would be sweet for sure. Yea man, I hope we all can keep at it. I guess if it were easy I'd move on to something else.

I just don't wana break something I need. LOL

That's pretty cool Willard. Thanks for posting it. I expect the local constables and DPW would go ballistic, but still very, very cool.

Looked like the bungee was attached to both the harness and to a grab handle so that the riders body angle could be controlled.

Makes you wish you lived in St. Louis....sigh.

Sam

If you want to learn all round board control I sugguest taking a skateboard to your local park to help learn the physics of riding...particularly riding switch. Learn how to flow around a park changing directions, learn how to powerslide, and learn how to land rolling fast. if you learn how to skate a miniramp (aka halfpipe under 8 feet tall) it teaches your brain and muscle memory how to focus on where you want to go and how you should move your body.

when you make the transition over to your mountain board, practice rolling down hills regular and switch. After you feel comfortable and confident, make a small ramp to practice airs on. Once you start using your kite, practice riding upwind and downwind, edging, and powersliding. All of this will get your prepared for freestyling.

When everything is all said and done the best thing to do is just practice while flying your kites. Nothing is better than actually trying it. You can sit in your garage all day, but the best way of learning is just doing it and crashing. Just don't go out in big winds too soon. good luck man!

I like to stay stuck to my board - Ratchet bindings all the way!! I only get worried about injuries with one leg in and one out...

Defo practice board skills without the kite. find a slope that runs onto flat and roll down it. hop 180's etc as you come to a stop and do it progressively earlier in the run as you get better.

put a small branch down and ollie it aswell. rolling ollies are great for nailing landings and aerial transitions when you start jumping with your kite.

Not sure what kinda trucks you have with these "cubes" in them but they sound f*cked up. get a set of channels or skate trucks that you can adjust with a spanner!

Stay lit!
