I met a guy on an ATB who had hockey pants, he said the padding worked well protecting impact points.

if you are wearing a waist harness, body armour just gets in the way. personally i would just have knee and elbow pads, a pair of crash shorts, a good pair of gloves and then invest in some heavy duty outer wear. motorbike gear is designed for high speed crashes on highly abrasive surfaces so looking in that direction would be a good start

The first time I wore protective shorts was at the pre event a couple years ago. Anxious to ride, I jumped on and zoomed out. What I failed to take into account was the playa playa being looser there. I edged hard and the tires slipped right out underneath me. Padded shorts,no sweat right? Only if they don't slide down....along with your other shorts. Keep em tight,REAL tight lol.

I've gone through a bunch of kneepads (insert joke) here. Generic hard shell skating pads move around too much. Troy Lee and Fox make great motorcross gear that crosses over nicely. You want pads that are sleeved with straps, protection that slides is useless. Exhibit 1 my @$$ a few years ago. I've slid some long distances on these bad boys. Flexible, tough, and solid.

Also if you have or plan to slide around on your back a lot then the 661 suit of holy good god Batman armor is a good idea.

Ha Glen, I was talking about a photo of AJ. I forget all the why-fors and what-fers, but I inadvertently posted his BN photo on the Flexifoil Forum several years ago. Either it was a lousy photo, or I had a lousy monitor, so didn't realize that's what the photo was about (I don't think anyone but AJ did either).

Anyway, good to see you're still around, and congrats on the new/old girlfriend! Be sure to post photos of the new hot rod when it's finished (or just looking good).

Wishin' I could make the event, but work got in the way again this year. Maybe next. Later guys and gals!

Wont' those just get shredded and melt on impact? I'd think you'd want a hard cap.

It has thin, flexible hard shell on the front underneath the canvas and the canvas is pretty tough stuff. Been using them for years, and underneath your jeans they keep you warm too. Hard shell is fine as long as the pads don't move around the second you start to seriously slide on them, like the cheap rollerblading packs at wal mart.
