I have just added a new JIBE Registration category called "Beach-only, no dinner" for those who cannot make dinner Friday night. The cost is only $15
and includes registration for one buggy or land board, T-shirt, water and Ice all for all days.
Remember all profits go to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center.
I am delighted to see the expected attendance list grow. Between registrations received and those who have tossed their name in to be expected, we
are tracking to easily double last year- and it is early yet. If you are planning to attend and want to sit on your cash 'til later, that's totally
cool- just drop me an e-mail or U2U so I can plan logistics.
We are getting good local press coverage and I expect some curios locals to show up for our public demo clinics from 1-4 pm on Friday and Saturday.
I'll be asking for volunteers to give just one hour on either day to help newbies with trainers. Help spread the Gospel according to Ripstop.
Updated event registration info...

I've shaken off all the playa dust from NABX (still some in the kites) and am turning toward JIBE about 4 weeks out.
The registered/ confirmed list exceeds last year's final count and a lot of the usual local suspects still have to check in, so it looks like a big
field. We have visitors from NY, TX and possibly CA. A lot of new names!
If you want to register but don't want to pay until the event, that is OK- you can register on line and choose "check/ money order" for form of
payment. I just need head counts for Dinner and Sea Turtle Center Tour.
See http://www.coastalwindsports.com/JIBE2009.html#3
Even if you have been to the Sea Turtle Center before, there are lots of new patients, new stories, and new science to learn about. That will be
during high tide, Friday and/ or Saturday morning.
This year there will be raffles/ auctions (format TBA) for kites and cool stuff- once again all benefiting the Sea Turtle Center and reminding local
government that traction kiters are cool people that support the community and environment.

I just got back from a beach trip and my sails are all pointing towards JIBE and those wonderful Jekyll Island sands now. There is nothing like a sky
full of "our" kites.

Is anyone planning on camping at this event. I am looking for a place to park overnight and just camp in the car for the night. (I will be working on
a limited Budget) I may be able to make it Thursday and Friday. it is a 550 mile drive from where I will be. I am not sure about getting my buggy
there but can bring some of my kites.

This one is too short for us to justify pulling the camper down there. We will be staying at one of the nice but inexpensive hotels at the
interstate. The campground is conveniently located though.

I'm afraid there is no overnight parking on the island except for the campground, and you really need reservations there (and they may be booked
already ). Call 1-866.658.3021 They have all the facilities you would need from showers, to laundry to WiFi.
If you really want to just park, I would suggest one of the truck stops at exit 29 off I-95. They are 12 miles from the Island. The Flying J has
public showers, but I do not know how much they cost. Not elegant but clean, safe and practical.
Remember to budget $3 a day for parking on the Island. that gets you good public rest rooms, outdoor running water, drinking fountains and beach
access. We will have lots of free ice, compliments of Blackbeard's Restaurant.
Hope to see you there

You will be in awe about what you learn from buggying around others. You will notice things people do to be courteous to you, and you will also learn
from bad positions others put you in that don't realize what they are doing. Sometimes, someone just has to stop but in most cases if everyone works
together everyone can just zip on by. In all cases, the downwind kite goes low and the upwind kite goes high. Don't stay and fly somewhere that has
another flyer blocked. I'm sure I still make mistakes but if you do, try to recognize it and fix it asap. Bottom line is everyone is easy going and
laid back and you won't get an earful from anyone. You might get some helpful hints like I have every event that are meant to help you do better.
Ever the student.

night if you don't have arrangements.

OK Gang, one week to go and everything is getting dialed in. I have 24+ hard-coded registrants and a few more expected so I suspect we will be over
30, plus family and friends.
For those who are coming but have not registered, please give me a heads up so that I can plan for dinner Friday. We have a great dinner planned and
Blackbeards Restaurant and the Jekyll Island Authority are bending way over backwards for us, so I do not want to deliver too many surprises.
Also we have the Sea Turtle Center Tour Saturday Morning at 11:00 am. Remember that it is not included in the registration and is an a' la carte item
since we have those returning registrants who have been before. I still encourage returning guests to attend since there are always new stories, new
cases and new science to learn about. I need to let them know about how many.
We will be having a raffle for everything from brand new kites to cool accessories and gear. Remember, all proceeds go to the Georgia Sea Turtle
Center to support their research and education. This helps to tell local government and the press that kite people are good people and care about the
environment (and yes, safety)!
Special thanks to local kiters who have volunteered to chip in to help with public clinics and course marshaling / public safety. If anyone else
wants to give a small amount of time to the public clinics on Friday and Saturday, let me know. If I have enough people, then nobody has to be away
from the buggy for long. Help us preach the gospel according to ripstop.

Great Chad, thanks. Sorry Brian; next time.
BTW, I'm hooked up with Ozone now so will have an Access XC and some new Flows to demo. Probably one will make it to the raffle list.
Of course everything else in the kitemobile is up for grabs too.
Just heard from the Georgia Highway Patrol (they work the beach) and they are cool with everything. Gang, this is the only place you can buzz and
outrun the Georgia Highway Patrol and get away with it!

Hey Gang
Went to Blackbeard's Restaurant last night for extensive PTE (Product Testing and Evaluation). Met with the manger and planned the dinner. Menu will
be...
Fried Seafood platter
Broiled Seafood platter
Rib-eye steak
Grilled Chicken
Veggie/ pasta
Kid's menu available if needed
We will have the whole bar to ourselves.
They have a new Happy Hour on Friday from 4pm on and they have opened up the big front deck that overlooks Kite Beach. They are thrilled that we
will be filling the sky with rip-stop and putting on a show for the patrons.

Yo Fellas! Looking forward to meeting up with you all again at JIBE! I'll be down Friday, most of the day and Saturday. I'll have 2 buggies with me
with the tandem tow hook if anyone wants to borrow it to give/get a ride or better yet to drag their complaining spouse or child thru the surf... I'll
do that last part for free:evil:. See you then.

Windmapper is showing 6-9 mph from the SW Friday and Saturday. I guess that will be overcome by the afternoon heating effect? If afternoon heating
overrides the prevailing winds, what type wind speeds do we end up with?

Seabreaze patterns are predicted all week and they will most often prevail over local westerlies. Hard to predict velocity but stronger later in the
day after the tide change.

I have a challenge for anyone attending the JIBE- I have a montana II seven meter that I have never been able to get to fly right. The first time i
flew it, I snagged a rock and put a tear in the back (was not flying right then)- sent it to some place in texas to be fixed (cant remember the place
but was recommended by several on this forum). After getting it back tried flying several times with marginal luck at best- the challenge is make
this kite fly and show me how. I will be there thursday and friday- have to be back in virginia on saturday- hope someone is up to the
challenge........

Hey Joe, good to hear from you and glad the buggy is still trucking- I ride a BF now, too. Strange how Don scheduled Wildwood for this weekend when I
announced 7 months ago (top of this thread) that part of my motivation for moving JIBE to spring was to avoid conflict with Wildwood!
When I saw Don at NABX he seemed to think no one would come to JIBE from your region anyway, but we have several registrants from NY and the NE. So
let's work together next year to avoid conflict and make both events stronger. Because of our huge tidal range here in the gut of the Georgia Bight,
we are really dependent on tide tables to schedule the event. I don't think your guys are as dependent, are you?
Our weather is looking good. More easterly components are being added to the forecasts, and the sea-breeze is expected to be dominant in the
afternoons. Good thing, because the temps have been in the low 90's. I am hopeful for some epic park-and-rides on late Thursday and Friday
afternoon.
We will definitely trade pics, thanks!
