MDK - When you come from Idaho, do you come in from the south thru Fields or do you come in from the north?
When I map it from Boise it takes me thru Fields, but I swear there used to be guys from the Boise area that came in from the north.

I come from the north like the link shows from Boise, Only I come from Weiser Idaho, Ontario Oregon area. it takes nearly two hours off the drive. the
drawback has been the 30 miles of dirt road but it sounds like that will no longer be an issue

120 miles if you take the 205-wildlife preserve route which currently has the most paved roads. I think it's about 45 minutes shorter if you go ors78
(I think that's what it's called) but that route at least at present puts you on gravel roads for about 20 more miles I believe.

Looks like I will not be making it unless the finances change. I had an accident
when driving a friends truck and feel that it is my responsibility to in the least pay the deductible. Good news, nobody was hurt.

Glad you are ok, that looks like it could have been very bad. We'll miss you out there, but it isn't going any where. I know some guys who are
making it a regular thing, I'm sure somebody wouldn't mind making an extra trip with you (hint hint. :D )

What's the wind and Lakebed situation at Alvord this time of year? I have a weekend set aside for some buggying the weekend of the 6th and everything
is soggy in this part of the country. I'm considering making the trek to Alvord since I won't be able to make it in October. I also would hope some
others might join me there for the safety and fun of comrades.

Dry hot in the 90's wind 5-12 mph. It's a gamble this time of year. I have a MRI scheduled that Saturday or I would be up for a gamble, sorry.

Informal A.B.E. October 7th thru October 13th.
Would be helpful to get arrival dates for those attending.
Remember this can/is extreme camping if you are on the lake bed without an RV.
Come prepared. List of suggested items to follow.

This is just a minimal suggested camping list for those wishing to camp on the lakebed.
4 season tent with rain fly. The more poles for structure the better. Winds at night can be brutal.
1-zero degree rated sleeping bag per person
Foam sleeping pad, or thin air mattress. Stay away from the thicker air mattresses, they tend to deflate and get cold.
Flash lights, Flash lights, Flash lights!
Camp stove of some kind with fuel.
Don't forget to bring something to cook food in, and eat with.
Clothing for all conditions. High temps during the day and cooolllddd at night! I would suggest a stocking hat for nights to keep your head toasty
while you sleep.
Duh Food! You are two hours from the closest grocery store.
Water, 2 liters a day per person folks. See above.
Do you take prescription medications for any reason. Bring them.
This place is huge and can be unforgiving. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.
This is just a minimal suggestion list. Bring what you need to be safe and comfortable.

if your coming in from the north (highway 78 from Burns or Jordan Valley to Folly Farm Rd/Fields-Denio Rd.) Folly Farm Rd/Fields Denio Rd. is 39 Miles
to the lakebed in which 28 miles of it is dirt (it is rumored that it is to be paved soon). I drove my 30' RV with a trailer down this road last May
and it was fine, I maintained about 30 to 40 mph most of the way. I am however holding on to the hope that it will be paved some day. I will be there
at least Thursday through Sunday.

It will be good to see you Mike. Be sure to bring extra water in case the lake bed is dry. hehehe
Will you be bringing the tow vehicle for those that get stranded 15 miles away when the wind dies? I would be happy to pay next time.:D

I'm still undecided as weather to go. It would be a 7 hour trip for my wife and I. I have a few questions if you don't mind.
1. The dates include October 11-13 correct?
2. Has anyone had any problems with water freezing in their RV at night?
3. Most importantly, my wife says she'll get bored. We would bring our bicycles, but that's not enough. Is there anything else to do around there?
I've heard of a hot springs. Is there actually hot water for swimming there?
4. How much money do I need to bring for the fees, t-shirts etc...?
Thanks for your replies.

Number one yes number two no number three yes there are hot springs but there are no guarantees that your wife won't get bored. I will have a four
wheeler out there that she is welcome to explore on. my wife also has a blow cart that she would probably be willing to share. Number four I have no
idea you'll have to ask Josh or Sean
