anybody else get their butt kicked by the high winds lately? Today, I only had a couple minutes at sunset after work, so I went for the longboard. Combination of pilot error and ill timed gust. The funny thing is you can see the gust hits me first then blows my camera off the tailgate. First time that has ever happened. Unfortunately it didn't capture the whole event because of that. I held on too long and hit my head on the ground. I was wearing a helmet but I didn't have it fastened. Lesson learned on that. I got up and the sky looked like a kaleidoscope. I've tarnished my perfect safety record on longboard but no real harm done.

After a long, not so windy summer (and weeks of a full parking lot) I finally got things rolling again this weekend. My JIBE Special kite - 2.5 M, NPW-5P. It was an Air, Land, and Sea weekend for me since I also flew static some kites I'm working on and windsurfed as well.

@ Sean - glad you learned that little chin strap lesson without lasting consequences. I absolutely hate seeing folks riding their bikes with the strap like that. Skiing too; I can't even start to count how many people ski with the strap undone. I usually mention it politely if I see somebody like that in the lift line; a lot of times I think they just forget to strap it. I've had people acknowledge the comment but still not strap it. WTH, a fashion statement? As a skier I can't count the number of times I've "used" my helmet.

@ Randy - nice little video. I kept waiting for a Walker to come out from off camera to jump you! :D

Doomed myself here, and went wakeboarding Sunday, and tore my flexor muscle in right forearm and so am out for the fall winds now :-(, just my fault for having too much fun.

volock - sorry to hear that. Injuries are really tough because they keep you from doing what you really want to be doing. I sprained my knee a few years ago and it was a real drag to be out of action for close to 3 months. Good luck with your rehab.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I'm hoping it's quick as it's been a long windless summer and I'm dieing to get out on the snow.

I'm hoping it's more 1-2 months. Knees suck, I had surgery on mine and missed 6 months of kiting and triathlons. Luckily street kiting requiring the smallest kites (next to ice skates) and least resistance, should be the first discipline I get back to :)

I found this in my relentless quest for streetkite videos. The empire looks like a nicely refined kite.

The longboard is set up uniquely. I think I need to expand the longboard quiver to something like this to mix it up. Looks like a little more of a freestyle set up with more possibilities in tight spaces.

Looks like board is similar to a sector 9 wedge longboard skateboard? Opinions on that?

Great video Sean - thanks for posting it. I like those attachments (or whatever they are called) - would give some added control on a longboard.

Cool vid Sean, ... looks to me like a standard sized board with some kind of modification to wedge his feet under... Do we know what sized kite that was? looked small for a depow.

Very cool vibe on that Vid. Spencer - it appears to be an 8m kite. It was the "Ride Different V8.0. The next video that was trying to load was for kitesurfing and that kite was a V12.0. Can't imagine this company has gone through that many generations so that has to mean square meters.

On another note, no helmet, elbow or knee pads! I just can't imagine doing kiting on asphalt without at least that much on. Goes to show what a rookie skateboarder I am. Pretty gutsy doing all that flying around people, cars, etc. Lots to get hung up on!

Had a great session with the 6m peak hooked in. I hadn't had a chance to try out my modified fall harness that I cut the legs and shoulders off of to make a waist harness until now. It worked perfectly and was the missing link to riding toeside that I had been missing. I was inspired to by the Ikon video to give it a shot today. winds were no more than 8mph. I would have preferred a little more wind. Didn't bring the 9m or I would have tried that. It was amazing and nice to progress to something a little different that I've usually been doing. Definitely more to come on this new to me riding style. As a bonus, the harness has 2 connection points so I can fly 2 kites at once which will happen when I get the right wind.

Incorrect. I visited their youtube channel and their videos are in order v1-v22. The number corresponds to the number of videos they have made in order. Check out their channel. Pretty amazing stuff and all of their videos have a low number of views for some reason. They are all really well made entertaining videos.

What on earth is the right wind for two kites, not stacked, but seperately connected? I'm nowhere near coordinated enough for that.

You don't give yourself enough credit. It's not that hard. I've only done it static with one hooked and one unhooked. I think it will actually be easier with both hooked. Ultimately I would like to buggy or board with 2 kites just for the heck of it.

Nah, I know exactly how clumsy I am. I sprained an ankle falling off a stationary bike. And I'd never manage the two kites thing. I've briefly done it with two stunt kites on bars, and that was challenging enough, without the issues of power potentially taking me for a scud. Super excited to see the dual kites when it happens.

I'll stick to trying to avoid road rash with one... Or my forever challenge of kiting more than a hundred feet on a BC wheel with a kite.

Hi Ssayre, at first glance it looked like a Freebord setup. But I didn't see those "dolly wheels" near the trucks. It looks like you can get those bindings separately: http://store.freebord.com/s2-bindings/.

Thanks cochise, I might make a home brew set out of odds and ends in the garage to try out, then get something more refined like the freebord. I kind of want a shorter board with a kicktail as well.

Riding longboard is really a sublime feeling because it allows you to take advantage of light wind which is more consistent and consistent wind of any kind is rare in my parts.

4 meter Ikon Micro

It took some very careful study of the video when I should have been working. :)

I have a sector 9, but been thinking about getting a cruiser with a kick tail. Sector 9 does make them like that. Let me know if he has one. Not sure I'm ready to buy at the moment. Trying to save up for the holidays and winter in general since my business is somewhat seasonal.

I think it would depend on the surface. For smooth surfaces, a longboard with hard wheels seems ideal. For rougher surfaces inflatable tires would seem necessary. I had a flat on my ATB and had some large (8 inch) PU wheels so I experimented some this weekend. The surface at this parking lot is too rough, I think, for a longboard, but these big wheels seemed to work pretty well. This was shot Friday,

Here is some more action from over the weekend (Saturday), featuring a soft, single skin, kite design I have been working on with the gentleman from 2e5.com
